GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

How do you decide which console to buy games on? I feel bad if I leave one console sitting there without touching it for months on end...

I only buy exclusives and PS+ games for the PS4. I just bought Killzone, Infamous:SS and LoU Remastered.

All multiplats I will get for XONE as I am an achievement whore ... plus all my gaming friends are on on XBOX for multiplayer.

I generally get the better looking version, which this generation means I will buy most games that appear on consoles but not PC on PS4. However, sometimes I break that general rule. Take Destiny... my friend wants to play it with me and he's getting an Xbox, so I will be getting Destiny on Xbox One.

So I go with friends first, and failing that, I go with graphics. I do NOT go with console exclusive bonuses like extra throwaway DLC like hats or guns or whatever. But honestly, so many games are coming out on PC, that's where it looks like I will be spending most of my time this generation. They are generally cheaper, multigenerational, and look better on my computer.

I want to split things more evenly, but it's kind of tough deciding on which X1 multiplats to buy since they're always inferior to the PS4 version in some way.

I think my X1 is going to be more of an exclusives machine.

I've been having a hard time deciding still. I enjoy the XB1 due to its OS and functionality. I'm going to see if Sony is going to step up the OS side with any announcements at gamescom and see what the performances differences are once the big multiplats start hitting in the fall. If Sony don't step up with OS features like suspend/resume, the PS4 is probably going to end up my exclusive box this generation.

I understand OP feeling bad about having one console dormant for a long time, I get that too.

That said, I have a new ps4 so am using that more right now. I go pretty much by the same deciding factors as have been mentioned here when getting games: friends, graphical disparity between versions, and suitability of controller.

Also, at the moment Xbox Live seems to be a bit unstable, so I'm glad I can sit that out on PSN.

Before building my gaming rig i would get multiplats and exclusives on PS4 and only exclusives on my XB1.

Better performance, higher resolution and a higher adoption rate in my friends list made it the better choice.

Since building the gaming rig i will be (as said above):

PC for all multiplats (and PC exclusives)

PS4 for Exclusives and multiplats where atmosphere is greater than performance. The Evil Within would be a good example of this. A big screen and Big sound is a must.

XB1 for exclusives only.

Well I'm one of the lucky ones.
I've got a good pc
ps4 xbox one and a wii u

So far multiples have been ps4 or pc
xbone for exclusives
Wii u exclusives

Most will all probably stay this way but I may wind up getting a few the Xbone way too examples madden or cod if I get those or whatever
Destiny is a weird one getting both versions I have friends who want to play it on either ssystem I'm hoping destiny would allow character transfers but I doubt it will

Sports games = XB1 because that's where my friends play

AC/Watch Dogs = PS4 because, uhhh, just because I guess

Destiny I'm still mixed on, have friends buying on both systems, prefer XBOX controller for shooters but want the PS exclusive content

Well a few things i consider: Price, Game Type, and if friends are getting it on X Console. I much prefer an Xbox Controller over a PS4 controller. IMO Xbox one has the best controllers(GOAT). But it depends on the price. Sometimes you can't pass a deal up wether you wanted to play it on one console or another. Recently i played WatchDogs on Xbox One because i caught a line on it. Wanted the PS4 one but couldn't. Ended up being a very fun experience as it would have been on either console. Also if friends are getting a game on a console. I have friends who are getting Madden and evolve on Xbox One relative so that's naturally where my preorder is, while destiny is gonna be on PS4 for me.

I think all in all i don't care which console i play the games on as long as i play them. Screw all the fan boy hate, just play some damn games.

Xbox One for multiplayer.
PS4 for everything else.
Although recently I did have a hard time deciding what platform to get Destiny on because I have friends on both consoles. Those were dark times.

Code:
Public Function WhichPlatformToPlayOn(GameType as gtGameTypes, IsMultiplayer as Boolean, NumOfFriendsOnXbox as Integer) as pfPlatform
   Select Case GameType
       Case PS4Exclusive:
            WhichPlatformToPlayOn = PS4
       Case XboxExclusive:
            WhichPlatformToPlayOn = XOne
       Case Multiplatform:
            If IsMultiplayer Then
               If NumOfFriendsOnXbox > 3 Then
                   WhichPlatformToPlayOn = XOne
               Else
                  WhichPlatformToPlayOn = PS4
               End If
            Else
               WhichPlatformToPlayOn = XOne
            End If
    End Select
End Function

Goodness man. Did you just use VB? lol You got a spreadsheet with this info on there.

Whichever lets me remote play on my Vita.

Sounds like a joke but I am dead serious. I didn't imagine that I would appreciate remote play so much but it's become a deal breaker.

I'm buying on PS4 first, assuming the visuals will be a little better. If I hear otherwise I'll swap choices of course.

PC for 360/PS3 XB1/PS4 cross-gen games.
I'm not buying these games that have roots in 360/PS3 tech on next gen systems. I let it pass for the launch titles, but that's it. I'll let my PC crank things up to 60fps for me.
Example: Watch Dogs was bought on PC.

Xbox One for multiplatform and exclusive games. I prefer the controller of the Xbox since the Controller S, that is likely to repeat itself in future generations as well.

PS4 for exclusives. I like a lot of Sony produced properties and other exclusives so PS4 was always a worthwhile investment.

PS3/PS4/XB1/360 = all bought on launch date.

I've probably already posted in this thread, but I don't remember exactly, so here goes anyway. Almost everything on XB1. Prefer the controller and vastly prefer the OS. Exclusives + Destiny on PS4.

I buy mostly exclusive titles on each in the first place. Not many multiplats to buy but most of my friends are one xb1 so I would be more likely to get them on xb1

Like the previous generation. Exclusives on PS4, everything else on XBO.

Reason? I get my online experience on my XBO (friends and controller preferences). Multiplatforms I get on XBO just due to convenience. Too lazy to turn on a different console everytime and of course to be on standby for possible game invites.

PS4 - exclusives + multiplatform. I also love that Vita remote play!

xbone - exclusives only

The reverse from last gen. PC for MMOs, RTS, Strategy, Simulation, and exclusives

Exclusives are exclusive, so obviously there's no choice there.

For multi-platform games, anything that's even vaguely a first- or third-person shooter I'll gravitate to X1, thanks to the controller. Exceptions made for games with severe technical disparities between platforms (ie, 720p vs 1080p).

Also, for long-running franchises, it'll often come down to sentimental reasons - ie, Splinter Cell is an Xbox franchise to me, whereas Metal Gear is PlayStation. Likewise, Final Fantasy is PlayStation, while Elder Scrolls is Xbox.

And anything I get free from GwG/PS+ doesn't get double-dipped on the opposite platform, unless it's sufficiently awesome that I just want to throw some money at the developers.

Whenever I get around to getting a WiiU (probably around the time Zelda releases), it'll just be for Nintendo games, and whatever third-party exclusives trickle in and manage to interest me.

I have a set criteria. Obviously, I'll get whatever first-party games I can for either console, but for third-parties - not counting exclusives - it depends.

If it's a new game in a existing series, I'll play it on a platform that has more or less been attached to that series for me since the start. One example is Assassin's Creed. You can bet I'll pick up Unity on PS4 and Rogue on PS3 as I've played all the Assassin's Creed games on PlayStation.

Likewise, the next Mass Effect on Xbox One. Although I have the Shepard trilogy on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, I've always considered my Xbox 360 to be my platform of choice in regards to Mass Effect.

(that is unless there's, say, a noticeable difference in performance graphically and/or gameplay wise in one platform over the other, in which case, I'll go for the version which runs best)

I'll double-dip some games for a game too on different platforms: GTA V is the most recent example to come to my head as I got both PS3 and Xbox 360 at launch. For the current gen version, I have the PS4 version currently pre-ordered, but only for a lack of funds to not get the Xbox One version (yet).

In regards to new IP, I'll play it by ear. But right now, my PS4 is my main console compared to Xbox 360 last-gen so it'll probably get a first refusal type thing. Not to mention, exclusive content and promotion attachment will probably play a part, so things like Watch Dogs and Destiny I've played/will play on PS4.

Play mostly on X1 though I love both consoles. Why? Probably because I prefer X1's interface, controller, friendlist, achievements and it's games. I'm still buying most multiplats on the Xbox One; haven't really seen a major difference in 3-rd party games to choose other wise.

1. Best port so usually PC>PS4>X1
2. Price so usually PC unless PSN+ or Games for Gold
3. If console only and equal on the above I go with X1 because it doesn't get as much love.

Of course if I was more of a multiplayer type I'm sure community/friends would be up there too.

Had a long talk with the wife last night. Came to the conclusion that she'll never, EVER, EVER, play the Xbox One. She's happy with an occasional zumba on Xbox 360 kinect. I've been through the Wii U and the PS4, and the relatives didn't give a crap. Sold and moved on to...

As much as I love the construction of the Xbox One, the beautiful controller, and the UI, I reverted back to PS4. The allure of Naughty Dog and Quantic Dream beat Halo for me, so the PS4 is my primary. Although I like the 'feel' of the Xbox One ecosystem more, the PS4 wins in the end.

It was a really tough call. Then I started playing The Last of Us Remastered.

Wow.
