GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

Between the DS4 and the XB1 controller there is something great. Apart, they're both severely lacking. As you pointed out, it's hard for me to fathom how much MS fucked up the analog sticks. Specifically how loose and cheap they feel.

Yup. Combine them both and you have a winner.

I have heard all sort of shit about Xbox One controller and mostly its about the bumpers and I can see why people wouldn't like it. But Analog stocks are fucked? and feels CHEAP? am I using the same controller as you? This is as premium as it gets. Just look at those texture around it, its not as tight as Xbox 360's but I find it more precise. But again I understand if you are complaining about lose sticks. But cheap? really? What you think of PS4's thumbstick and material then?

The bumpers aren't great but they are workable. The texture is annoying for how small the top concave is. They really do feel loose and cheap. The top of the DS4's thumbstick's isn't the best (I haven't had any issues with the material wearing off however) but everything else about it is so much better feeling to me.

The advantage to X1 is you can do it while doing anything including watching TV. Its not equal.

Getting into a debate about which has better voice commands is just plain silly. You would have to not used kinect on XB1 to recognize its superior. You can controlled the entire UI by voice.

I buy games for both systems based on a few things graphical difference being very last.

First is multiplayer in game and is my son playing it too? If that is the case he and I both have Xbox one so if he's going to dump alot of time into it then Xbox one. Both of us have far more friends on live.

If single player and he isn't going to play then I go based on controller feel and then graphics example ufc I bought on ps4 since he isn't playing it and the DS4 felt better in this game after playing the demo on both systems.

Tomb raider and Wolfenstein I chose ps4 just to have more to play and the higher frame rate.

So I choose my muti platform games that way.

And of course I have each PS4 Xbox One, Wii U for their exclusives

Xbox One - Racers (rumble triggers are a game changer), sports, and exclusives
The way people says rumble triggers is a game changer for races is out of my mind when I expected any addictive racer game have a wheel at home :)

Controller and rumble triggers are not a game changer to Racers... it is a step back to the way the racers are mean to be played.

PS4 for everything except X1 and WIIU exclusives. I have always preferred playstation controllers even the DS3. Fortunatley most of my friends have moved to PS4 from 360 so that helps I guess although we all never really talk to each other when we play games anyway.

Certain games I'll stick to PC. For nearly all other multiplats, PS4. I will eventually pick up a used Xbox One when enough exclusives appeal to me. Wii U for exclusives (probably my next purchase). Vita for portable awesomeness.

Set.

Besides I prefer the Xbox One system, Im buying multiplatforms games on PS4 because they are the best versions. That probably mean that I will not be playing much of my Xone till the release of Horizon 2 though.

Thanks!....thanks for that.

So he's being truthful in his post then. Soooo....why call him out?

The phrase "to call him out" means someone intends to challenge him.

In this case, neither Admiral Woofington or steelalchemist is calling him out.

They would be calling him out if they said "Because avatar/name, I don't believe you have a PS4!"

I believe the two posters are just stating the obvious, which is intended to express "we already know that's what you're going to say."

Man has this thread taken a nose dive. But to answer the OP's question;

Shooters and multiplayer "focused" games I buy for Xbox One
Single Player "focused" games I buy for PS4

I am getting an XBO eventually (whenever it's $299.99), and I'll choose games the same way I did on 360 and PS3. Whatever the best version of a multiplatform game is, I'll get it there. I got 99.9% of all multiplatform games (and all games I purchased period last gen) on 360; the same will be true of PS4 this gen. Superior in every way, I just can't justify going for a shittier product.

So it's: exclusives on whatever platform they're on, multiplatform on the superior system technically.

Perhaps you're right, maybe they were just trying to be informative to the other readers/posters because he did not make his preferences clear enough, and there was no snark intended.

Well yes a controller is a "step back" from a Wheel but having the rumble triggers is a huge step forward for playing racing games with a controller.

This is what I mean with get informed for realizies. A good gaming PC is not that expensive compared to next gen consoles. Also no need to pay for online services, and you get so much more with a PC, including actually exclusive content: wildstar, dota, lol, zillion indies, GOG, free to play and what not.

If you are into AAA In the mid/long run getting AAA games on a PC is way cheaper, plus I can play Beyond Good and Evil, Dark Souls 2 and Watch dogs on the same PC. Backward compatibility since the 80s FTW.

A good gaming PC is going to run me a lot more than $400, and I'm going to start running into diminishing returns on my monetary investment real quick.

1. $250 gets me a Wii U with last-gen graphics and a weak game library (for my needs).
2. An additional $150 gets me a PlayStation 4 with much better graphics and all the third-party games that will come out this generation.
3. What does an additional $150 spent on a PC get me? Almost identical performance (which will decrease in time relative to the console, since devs get better at using console hardware over time) and fewer net games (since PC exclusives are less robust than console exclusives, generally speaking, outside of a few genres like RTSes and MOBAs).
4. Every additional $x spent on a PC basically just gets me performance improvements. It'll be five or six or seven years before I can't play every new game on the PS4.

Sure, there are other miscellaneous advantages to PC gaming, which you've named. None of them really make much of a difference for me, though. Gaming is a hobby of mine, but I don't game anything near enough to really take advantage of Steam sales and stuff like that.

If I played like eight or nine or ten games a year I could see being a PC gamer being more cost-effective. But I don't, so I'll never save enough money on software to outweigh what I'm saving on hardware going console.

Pretty much mirrors me

Cant support a worse platform when one is clearly superior hardware-wise

Last gen 360 was best, this gen ps4 is the best.

Easy

I don't have either console, but seeing all your justifications based on the controller alone is making me rethink my next-gen plan.

Do stores like Best Buy or Target have PS4/Bone demo stations where I can actually hold the (tethered) controllers to compare?

Find what you want? Sort the tiles on any order you want. Or create your own tab with your own tiles.

With less games the PS4 UI is faster but when you start to make a small collection the Xbox One UI is a lot less cluttered compared to the PS4, even if only for the ability to sort content. In my opinion of course ;)

I've only toyed with it for a week so far, so that's what I can go by. I'll have to look into how much customization I can do.
I know I can pin things, which I'm doing with favorites.

All things consider at this point there are stronger rational arguments for dropping both consoles and just get a PC

Get informed for realzies

Not if you have a finite amount of money and dont want to tinker to make sure your game runs at optimal settings. And friends lists and trophies and ps+ and all that. I'd love to get back into pc gaming but I cant afford it right now.

Of course. You should go try it out and see what fits you best.

I'm sorry.
That is ridiculous.

That would be like me saying I prefer getting mp games on my Wii U because I love how my Mii character announces my friends to me.

What features are different? I don't notice any glaring omissions whatsoever on either side.

I only have a PS4 but I understand what he is saying.

HDMI pass-trough and Suspend and Resume are a consideration. Speed of response is important. As is ease of use. The couple minutes it takes to boot a console and load a save game should be a thing of the past.

I see a lot of "I get whichever version performs better" but what happens if the games are virtually identical on both consoles...? In a lot of cases the difference nice are indistinguishable... Sports games, Lego games, Indie games etc...

Miss information again, keep parroting that if you need to believe the lies.

I can only go on what I've read. I researched the shit out of products including reviews and read troubleshooting threads. Browsed the day lights out of Microcenter, Newegg, and Tiger Direct. Looked at what exclusives I'd gain access to in genres that I enjoyed. Looked at the smaller online communities in games I enjoy. Looked at what kind hardware sacrifices I would need to put it in my entertainment center.
In the end I decided it wasn't what I wanted. It took weeks of constantly teetering back and forth before I ultimately made my own decision.

Xbox ONE: MP, and exclusives

PS4: Single player and exclusives

Why?

1. Better quality audio chat, very noticeable compared to PS4
2. Better controller
3. Being able to play and get notifications from the world cup (hoping more type of notifications in the future), also snaping, multitasking etc..

4. Xbox Live is a little better than the PSN (servers, availability and that stuff)
5. Community

Hmm, I'm sitting here watching FIFA, " Xbox go to my games". Boom there you go. No kinect? Press home button, Dpad right to my games and apps.

When I had my PS4 you had to scroll right alllll the way to the end to get to the library. To each its own.

Hmmm.... or you can have your camera or headset on and say,

"PlayStation FIFA"... Not even FIFA 2014.

Let's be serious.... And if you are playing FIFA 99.9% of the time, you don't even need to scroll all the way down the list because all your games are listed by most recent so... Yeah, the horizontal bar thing is a bit exaggerated.

I generally alternate what I buy for each console. At the moment I have 12 XB1 games to my 5 PS4 games but that's because I bought more multiplat launch titles for XB1 as I wasn't planning to get a PS4 as soon as I did.

My plan is exclusives for each console then alternate multiplat unless a game is substantially better on one console or my mates are buying on a specific console. For example I'll buy Destiny, COD, BF, FIFA on XB1 as my mates will be playing there but Madden on PS4 as I have mates playing that on Sonys machine.

I bought Wolfenstein on XB1 but Watch Dogs and Trials on PS4. Alternate baby!

That's nice and all, but the discussion you're replying to was about getting to the Library/My Games and Apps, not about launching a game.

I buy all multi platforms on PS4, I'm still seeing most of my purchases this year on PS3 with the amazing Japanese lineup.

However, I gotta give it to Microsoft for their amazing design on the Xbone, the perfect cat bed.

Right now I have both but I'm not sure if I want to keep the Xbox one. However if I do I think I will get single player games on ps4 and multiplayer will depend on which friends I want to play with.

Xbox One - MP games I'll play with friends, Exclusives

PS4 - Exclusives and multiplatform games without a PC port.

PC - Exclusives and Multiplatform games.

Normally if it's multiplatform it's on PC so the answer is mostly.. Neither.

Unless my nephews are playing some mp the. I will get it on xbone to play with them.

Ps4 is mainly a exclusives console for me because of the two points above.

-Be incredibly picky. It's easy to fall into the trap of buying games to "build a library" when you may never get the chance to catch up with a backlog of titles. Figure out the genres that you personally get the most out of, and with play-time that makes sense with the amount of free time you have.

-Wait for sales unless you're ready to play it right away.

-For games with multiplayer/co-op, buy the version where your friends are, barring some obvious technical shortcoming to one version or the other.

-Exclusives tend to be cool hardware showcases, even if the underlying game quality can vary dramatically. Come at them with this perspective, and you'll enjoy them even more than you might have.

-Find small-scale or small budget titles to be as excited about as you would a mass-market release, tailored to what you enjoy about games. It's rare you'll want for content if you have a mental list of these sorts of games in the back of your mind.

PS4/PC - Multiplats
Xbox One - Exclusives only

This is pretty much me. The only games I own for XBO are Forza 5, Ryse, Titanfall & the Games for Gold choices.

Meanwhile on PS4: Battlefield 4, Fifa, Watch Dogs, Last of Us: Remastered, inFAMOUS: Second Son, UFC, AC IV, Tomb Raider: DE, COD: Ghosts, Injustice, Killzone Shadow Fall & all the PS+ games.

I use my Xbox One and PS4 for exclusive games only. If the game is available on PC, then I get it for my PC first and foremost.

If no PC version exists, I look at which version has better content. If both versions have the same content, I look at which one runs better. If they both run about the same, I pick the game up for whichever system i haven't gotten a game for most recently. Example: I got NBA 2K14 for the Xbox One because I had bought a few PS4 titles right before.

I go back and forth. No real preference. For online games I prefer Xbox One, though. I find XBL more social and competitive, something I was missing last generation since I was PS3 only.

Code:
Public Function WhichPlatformToPlayOn(GameType as gtGameTypes, IsMultiplayer as Boolean, NumOfFriendsOnXbox as Integer) as pfPlatform
   Select Case GameType
       Case PS4Exclusive:
            WhichPlatformToPlayOn = PS4
       Case XboxExclusive:
            WhichPlatformToPlayOn = XOne
       Case Multiplatform:
            If IsMultiplayer Then
               If NumOfFriendsOnXbox > 3 Then
                   WhichPlatformToPlayOn = XOne
               Else
                  WhichPlatformToPlayOn = PS4
               End If
            Else
               WhichPlatformToPlayOn = XOne
            End If
    End Select
End Function

Well, this year I have plenty of exclusive stuff to buy for Xone. So, multiplatform games where I dont mind the multiplayer I will go with PS4. If it does have online multiplayer though, then I need to think about... if theres no big differences I may go with Xone, just because I'm enjoying the platform the most and because my Live friends are more communicative; but if the difference is more noticeable, then I may choose the PS4 version.
