GAF's Battle of the Rock Band Bands: ENCORE EDITION

hrj9mp.jpg

That's right -- it's that special time of year again, boys and girls: time to rock the f*** out. Things have change a bit, so make sure to read the new rules!

Terms of Battle:
---------------------

1) Every Friday for four weeks, I will announce three songs, along with the band matchups. One song will be marked as required for both bands to play, while two will be marked as reserves.

2) Competing bands will have until Monday to select two other songs -- retail disc or DLC songs can both be included -- that they will both play. A band may not choose the same song more than once.

3) If bands are unable to communicate or can't agree on the two shared songs by Monday, they will instead default to playing the two reserved songs originally posted by me on Friday.

4) Bands will then have a full week (until the next Monday) to play their three songs and submit scores to me. Screenshots of the scores are required. The band with the highest overall score wins that matchup.

5) At the end of the four weeks, our BCS (Band Championship Series) will begin and bands will be matched up by win-loss records to determine the championship and final placement. In the case of a win-loss record tie going into the BCS, the edge goes to the band with the highest overall margin of victory.

6) Competition begins with the announcement of the first week's songs on April 11.

Joining is easy:
--------------------

1) Post your gamertag/PSN ID below, along with your instrument and difficulty of choice. Most importantly, post your time zone -- the most successful bands are typically those that can reliably play together, after all.

2) I am not organizing bands -- coordinate in this thread or through PMs and form bands of four. Once complete, post or PM me the complete band details. There is no deadline for band creation, but latecomers enter with a disadvantage of likely having missed a week or more of eligible competition.

3) If you participated in the previous BotRBB, for the sake of parity, I'd prefer it if you don't reform your previous band, but I also realize that this may be inevitable given scheduling. You may join up with previous members provided that you don't play the same instruments as last time.

4) Once the band is created, post your band's shared DLC in this thread. A full list of DLC thus far is available here.

5) GAFers who haven't formed bands by the start of the competition will be automatically assigned to a band by me.

Other guidelines:
----------------------

1) GAFers of all skill levels are encouraged to join. Bands can be arranged of players from a variety of skill levels, as well. This iteration of the BotRBB was designed as head-to-head specifically so that those of lower skill levels might still be competitive.

2) Please do not join in unless you plan to see the competition through to the end.

3) Though creating bands out of GAFers is strongly encouraged, Non-GAFers who play on the same local system are also welcome. In other words, your wife/roommate/6-year-old prodigy are welcome, but XxFreTsLayERxX from the online leaderboards is not.

4) Band banners are more than welcome, but please limit them to 500 x 120 px in size.

5) To those Beard Rock members who neglected to join in the last time: For shame! This time around, your participation is mandated -- deal with it, eXxy.

6) No matter which band he's a part of, Sylar has to play bass.

Overall standings:
-------------------
1) Dragon Ryders (1-0) (+1,099,283)
2) Intense Flavor (1-0) (+739,460)
3) The Consequence of Sound (0-1) (-184,118)

Looks like I won't be able to participate until MS replaces my 360 and I can replace my Rock Band disc. Which means I won't be participating at all.

YES!!

Sign me up, captain!

I didn't have Rock Band during the first one :(

Here's my info:

PSN: TheJer

bass/guitar: ~expert
drums: ~hard/expert
vocals: ~hard

I'm looking for a band and I'd like to play bass or guitar. I'm pretty sure lots of bands will need a bass player - so I may be your man!

*edit: I'm mountain time (MST). But I'm usually available really late at night or in the morning sometime (I work late in the day). I always have at least one weekday completely free (Monday and/or Thursday), though.

Drums - Expert (except for RttH, Blackened, The Perfect Drug, and the Trash Pack blast beat song)

Guitar - Expert

Would rather play drums.

TheJer...looks like we might be compatible ;).

3) Though creating bands out of GAFers is strongly encouraged, Non-GAFers who play on the same local system are also welcome. In other words, your wife/roommate/prodigy 6-year-old are welcome, but XxFreTsLayERxX from the online leaderboards is not.

One of my friends is SuperDave07 (top of the drum charts)...can he play (on my local PS3 of course)? =\

screw all this expert player non-sense. Medium players stand up!!!! :lol

So those of us who are not yet good enough to make the transition from medium to hard can still participate?

I'm so in. Last time I had to bail because my drums were being weird and my pedal broke, but now my stuff is tip-top and I'm ready to rock. Anyone want a decent Expert drummer?

Edit: 360 version. GT: F1shBulb. EST time zone.

Ok well I'll probably play Expert Guitar, with Dave playing Expert Drums, and my other friend playing Expert Vocals. We need a bassist!

Expert Drummer 360 EST right here.

Last time I checked SuperDave did not post on GAF, Exodus. The rules specifically state no ringers from the top of the leaderboards.

TheExodu5, we just need a name.

Any name is fine for me. I have to leave my PC for a while, so just pick anything you like.

Slacker

I'll give it a try if a PS3 band needs a drummer. I'm expert level- finished 88 of the 90 songs I have. Still working on Run To The Hills and Won't Get Fooled Again. Gold starred maybe a dozen songs so far. I'm central time, usually can play in the evenings.

Short version:

Slacker (PSN: SlackerCS) (CDT) - Expert drums

I'm in again.

Expert Guitar/Bass or Expert Drums (all but a few songs)
PST - 360 (tag: Saerk Wren)
I can be available 4:30pm - 12 am on most days.

Do we want to reform CoolShade again, or do we want to make some completely new bands?

duderon's on drums this time around, so it's not likely if Drakken shows up for this round. I'd honestly prefer we didn't reform though, since it mixes things up a bit.

Count me in. My band is local though. If that's an issue, I can make up for it by the fact that there are only three of us, meaning one of us has to play two instruments at once.

What's the time commitment like for this? I'm can play Hard mode bass for most songs but I'm not sure I can devote the time to this because of work...

Like GCQuinton said, it'd be cool if at first try to form new bands, just for parity's sake.

Judging by the lack of PST players, however, we may have no choice. :D

That girl in the bunny hat
I suppose I can throw my hat in the ring. 360, EST, Hard drums (expert on most songs, but the last few tiers kick my ass). Could do Expert guitar/bass if needed, but I suspect a drummer would be in more demand. Tag's Kiya Ichiko.

Depends on how much time your band wants to put into practicing the songs each week. Last time, some bands were meeting up for multiple mult-hour sessions each week, others only had time to play through the songs once together -- either way's fine. The hardest part is getting four people to coordinate, which is why I suggest hooking up with people from your time zone.

And as an M's fan, I now have to change my pants, thanks to your avatar.

Sweet -- well, that was easy. I was paired with Jesiatha last time, though, so let's wait for a bit to see if another PST drummer comes along
but Jesiatha totally rocks
