GAF's Battle of the Rock Band Bands: ENCORE EDITION

Congrats to the first week's winners! Looks like this is going to be a tougher competition this time.

Wow, I'm surprised putting singing on easy and bass on medium would cause over a million difference in the 3 songs. But no biggie. Our band is set up so it will shine more as the songs get harder.

Yeah, that difference is rather unfortunate. We should have Gatekeeper back on Expert vox this week, so that should help things, and like you said, the harder the songs get, the better we should do.

Kind of funny that I FCed those songs on quick runthroughs now since I don't ever recall getting FCs on them back when I used to play a lot. :p

...boo. I could have done hard on those, probably. Might have gotten lower overall %, but would have gotten probably the same overdrive sections, and had more notes to get more score, but oh well.

Ooh, shout out for top performances, nice. My 100% on Wave didn't make it in, since it was on a lower score. There are some great players in this competition, awesome. The Towel needs to pick our song for this week.

Ummm... at least we got 2nd overall! :lol
Any time.. any time. :)

Congrats to everyone that played. Had an awesome time and it's only going to get better as the weeks go on! One thing I would like is to actually be able to play some DLC though. So buy songs, people!

Why would you pick Seven as one of your songs? Yuck.

It was actually a good pick, strategically. Before anything started, XShag and I were trying to figure out what song to pick, and he immediately vetoed Seven because he "can't sing it". And, well, he pulled it off well enough.

Funny, plaid keeps picking songs I can't drum too well. x_x Wave and Still Alive both have fills or measures I just have a hell of a time with. Our guitar team is pretty solid though.

I will admit One More Day picking that song made me pick up my game. Previously, my highest percentage was probably mid-80's, but after the week was over I was hitting 95ish percent pretty consistently.

Thanks, guys!

Nice to have Charron and Radjago on board too. We're turning out to be a pretty awesome team!

plaid,

I noticed you got the average wrong for 29 Fingers (look like you just forgot to divide by 2). That changes the average to beat for the two bands that did 29 Fingers to: 2,163,764 instead of 2,721,173. It doesn't change anyones win/loss record but it may change the standings and makes it much closer for those two bands.

As noted in the other thread, I finally got my new pedal.

So, now that I can play drums, if any band is temporarily missing a member, I'm willing to temporarily substitute for any instrument. I can't claim to be able to 100% every song on Expert using every instrument, but I can do it on Hard, and can pull 90%+ on most songs on Expert on all instruments (aside from aberrations like Blackened). Just PM me with what songs you're planning on playing and I'd be happy to see if I can help you out. After having to deal with the handicap of being in a 3-man band for much of the last competition, I'd be happy to assist on making this as even a competition as possible.

Otherwise, if someone needs a full-time drummer/guitar player/bassist because someone dropped out completely, send me a PM too. :S

Edit: plaid you should probably take me off Chekov's Towel's listing. From what I know, Dekelia's wife is singing vocals for the band.

Shit -- it looks like my professorship in advanced math is in jeopardy.
Thanks.

Done.

And I may as well reiterate it: If you are a member of a dysfunctional or unresponsive band, but still want to participate, let me know -- it's not too late and I'm more than willing to help people reform bands.

Right-click, save-as.

I'm just joshing you for your ever-so-perfect required song selection. If you keep this up I can already tell what song's gonna be required next week. :lol

There are actually three it could be, but I know you won't subject us to that one. You know, *that one*.

PS: WTF Google? o_o

It's been that one for a while, too.

:lol I don't wanna know what other tabs you have open.

I'm still getting this hilarious one, which was everywhere for me during the last competition:

Wow, after installing megapedal, my score has gone up a ton. I finally got my first gold star(say it aint so) and most of my percentages for songs have gone up by 5% or more. Endurance bass pedal songs(maps, welcome home, etc.) Still cause problems for me as my leg simply gets way too tired,(Oddly, I'm using heel up too) but I'm still doing MUCH better on them than before.

As PirateSean, Alpha and myself can't play as a band due to the Foreign IP "feature" in Rock Band Shall we divide up? Souther, want to team-up still? If so plaidtopia we need a bass and guitar player.

Either my team is dead or doesnt read this thread. Either way I'm too lazy to pm each one individually so I guess I'm on the bench again. I have no luck in this damn competitions.

Well, that seals it -- I'm making my own Battle of the Rock Band Bands thread and not inviting any of you. :lol

Yeah, it sounds like you'll all have to break up into seperate bands as no two Brits are able to connect to one another (WTF?!). I'll add you to the PS3 bench -- if any other PS3 bands need a member or two, please add these guys:

PirateSean (PSN: AKIRA-UK) (Britain) - Medium/hard drums, hard/expert guitar/bass,
captainflimflam (PSN: captainflimflam) (Britain) - Hard vocals, medium drums
Alpha_eX (PSN: Alpha_eX_US) (Britain) - Expert/hard drums, guitar/bass
Souther (PSN: Cyclonus) (EST) - Expert/hard drums

Sorry to hear that. I can vouch for Stabby, but if the others aren't showing up, how 'bout you team with BreakyBoy and fin?

I'm game, as long as I don't have to sing full-time. My vioce had enough of that in the last BotRBB. :lol

I'll even give up my beloved drums, and my almost as-beloved guitar, and offer to play expert bass. :S

Cool, well, if it's cool with Coop and fin, I'm just gonna group you guys together with Stabby, but lemme know if anyone's unresponsive.

Also, I've yet to hear back from Foxtastical. They didn't play last week, so assuming I don't hear from them for another day, I'm just gonna match you guys up against us.

Just talked to Foxtastical and they've lost their local drummer and are trying to pull it together for this week.

He's gonna let me know if they won't be able to play, so I'm gonna stick BreakyBoy & Co. against BANneD and just hope for the best on both sides. If Foxtastical can't make it, I'll pit BreayBoy & Co. against us.

As such, I suggest my band, BreakyBoy & Co. and Foxtastical just play the default songs this week so as to prevent any mismatches.

I'll actually be on in around 10 min as I'm still DL'ing the JP album and as I did it from the store I pretty much can't do anything.

Thanks for playing, guys -- I think we got some decent scores.

But, UGH. Technical issues kinda suck all the fun out of it. Between onemic's wall of static, dropped connections, Saerk's game playing out of synch with the rest of the band, and lag disrupting the unison bonuses, we really only got four full songs in or so. Total bummer.

Our scores are due Monday correct? Would it be possible to try to get an extension to Tuesday? Medium Rare is having difficulties meeting up...

You probably don't like to do this, but we wouldn't mind an extension either. We might not be able to get together this week.

I'll only give you extensions if your opponents are okay with it. And then they'd have to get an extension, too, just to be fair.

So, to One More Day and Chekov's Towel: Do you care?

Sorry, my week's been kind of hectic. I'm good today from 7:30-9:00, I might push it an extra half hour but then I have to get ready for a midnight church thing.

I tried to guy a Les Paul so I didn't have to use the strat again, but I can't find any for the 360. You can find Les Paul's for the PS3, but if you're looking for an extra guitar for the 360 you can only find those damned X-Ploerers. The strat is NOT good for a song like Seven.

One More Day's songs for Week 2 were done during our Week 1 session since one of our members was gone this week. I'm just waiting to submit the scores at this point, so one more day (HAH!) won't kill us.

If you're giving extensions to two bands, then you should give extensions to every band to be fair. I'd say if your band isn't put together enough to meet once a week, then maybe you shouldn't have joined the competition. That's my opinion.

Also, weren't we supposed to have Week 3 choices by now?

Last week we only had two matchups actually had both bands participate.

That sucks.

The more bands that turn in scores, the more fun this thing is. To that end, even though I hate giving extensions, I suppose I'm okay giving an extra day to band matchups that need it.

As for next week's songs, here they are:

Week 3 songs:
-----------------
"Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambira (required)

"Epic" by Faith No More (reserve)
"Pleasure (Pleasure)" by Bang Camaro (reserve)

Any songs from tiers 5-6 may also be substituted for the reserve songs (provided that both bands play the same three songs), including the following DLC:
"Bang a Gong (Get It On)" - T.Rex
"Little Sister" - Queens of the Stone Age
"Sick, Sick, Sick" - Queens of the Stone Age
"Sweet Leaf" - Black Sabbath
"Move Along" - All-American Rejects
"Siva" Smashing Pumpkins
"Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)" - Coheed and Cambria
"Complete Control" - The Clash
"Sugar Magnolia" - The Grateful Dead
"Truckin'" - The Grateful Dead
"Franklin's Tower" - The Grateful Dead
"Hitch a Ride" - Boston
"Message in a Bottle" - The Police
"Saints of Los Angeles" - Mötley Crüe
"Pain and Pleasure" - Judas Priest
"Fever" - Judas Priest
"Devil's Child" - Judas Priest
"Joker & the Thief" - Wolfmother
"Number of the BeastThe Number of the Beast" - Iron Maiden
"Working Man" - Rush
"Truth Hits Everybody" - The Police
"China Cat Sunflower" - The Grateful Dead
"Casey Jones" - The Grateful Dead
"Shockwave" - Black Tide
"Smokin'" - Boston
"Rock Rebellion" - Bang Camaro
"Riding on the Wind" - Judas Priest
Matchups will be announced Monday morning. Last week I had to change matchups because of the number of AWOL bands and I don't wanna have to do that again.

You said in the beginning that song alternates needed to be picked by Monday. How does that work for this week, as I won't know what DLC the band I'm competing against has until I know who they are. Is that getting extended till Wednesday, and then the bands only have like four days to get scores? Throwing out extensions and not putting out the information when it was supposed to be out seriously throws a wrench into everything.

Look, so far no one's bothered to let me know what songs they'll be playing in place of the reserve songs -- including your band. The Monday deadline was mostly an artificial way to get competing bands to coordinate quickly, which they seem to be doing fine with anyways. As such, the deadline pretty much dissipated before it even started.

And I'm not throwing extensions out like candy -- it's only a day and it's only to bands who have a) proven that they are actively participating and b) can get their opponents to OK it.

As far as the delay in this week's songs, I apologize for that -- it slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder.

I'd suggest that you take a moment to read through this thread and maybe the one of the previous BotRBB. You'll quickly see that, if I held steadfast to the rules with an iron fist, there would only be about two or three die-hard bands able to compete on a regular basis -- and that's after about half of the participants regularly drop out. Obviously, that's not ideal, and to prevent that I'm willing to bend a little. This is why I form bands myself after the entry deadline, why I allow bad bands to reform, why I don't make people purchase songs they don't want, why I try to give people lead time on next week's songs and why I try to detail as much as possible. Every decision I make is based around making it easier for people to participate. If stretching the rules a bit to allow two extra bands to take part in the competition this week ruins it for, I'm sorry, but that's how it's gonna be.

I thought we had told you our replacement for week 2? Either way, I'll repeat that we swapped Time We Had for Learn to Fly. I could have sworn everything was clean and kosher for our duel.

And shag, plaid, everyone- chill. I know This Is NeoGAF Dude, but this is a game, it's for fun, nothing's at stake, no need to get abrasive over the whole thing.
