Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

Man, since it can't be said enough, the screen may be small but it looks damn good.

Edit: Haha noticed the cloud in the background is not fact drawn to be like the bush. New face. :D I think that may prove the bush came before the cloud in Super Mario Bros. :lol

JPBrowncoat, those screens are so pretty, seriously... I love 2D and sprites/pixels... thanks...

Don't worry about Dracula X... it's definitely not for everybody [try unlocking Maria, she plays waaaaaay better than Richter (and she's more powerful), that makes the game easier though]...

And exploit the save feature when you're about to die on a boss fight, that way you don't lose lives [or hearts] and you start from the last save point, which is usually the room before the boss...

Now go an get Aria of Sorrow and some Klonoa and take some pictures [I wouldn't mind more Phantasia] :P ...

I just gave away my Famicom Micro to my nephew since I felt sorry that he was sick. :(

At least I bought a second Micro a while back :P An EZ Flash IV and Goomba Color await me in the coming weeks!

Damn.. This thread is making me want to buy one :( Any tips on where to get it? I'm in Europe and most Ebay-ers don't ship here or against huge charges (30-35 bucks.. -_- )

You should get one at play-asia.com, that's what I did. The shipping was like 20.90 USD, that's OK imho.
Also check ebay.co.uk

But I'm in europe, we have 220v here right. How hard are the converters to get.?
Well, the good one on play-asia is out of stock it seems... guess you'll have to search the net. Or you can buy a USB cable for the micro to charge with. :)

I ordered one from the UK ("console gadgets" or something), but it will be shipped during the next week, so I have not yet tried it out myself. But it should work fine... I guess. :p
And yeah, it's 3rd party.

Well I saw this today and figured, "What the heck?"

And I'm happy to say that, after just a couple minutes of playtime, I'm liking it more than Dracula X.

I LOVE YOU!!!!

*Add JPBrowncoat to the BFF list*

You are going to have so much fun with AoS [not so much with HoD :(]...

The music, the sprites, the story [really cool plot twist], the castle, the soul system... my favorite GBA game for sure... :D...

Edit: What camera do you use to take the pics... seriously, that makes me want to buy a micro and replay some GBA games...

This Canon Powershot. Very pleased with it. Macro setting is swell for taking these pics.

And even though I could play these games on my DS, I'm just very happy with the Micro. I have an extra one still sealed in the box that I'll probably end up selling.

Please, let me know if you end up selling it... I might buy one after seeing your pics...

Did I tell you how much I like you for buying Castlevania AoS? :D

I really hope you enjoy/like/love it as much as I do... ^__^

I got one of these on launch, perfect for chucking in your pocket before leaving.

Mine is almost constantly running Metal Slug Advance, that game is addictive.

Can anyone in Australia confirm that you can still get solid red Micro's in stores? If so, how much are they going for?

Thanks
I haven't seen them in a year - there were a few big clearance sales about a year ago where I grabbed a bunch of micros for presents/ebay sales in black, silver, blue and red. Kept a red one for myself (had a hard time deciding between red and black). Since then I've only seen a few silver ones in a few kmart/target glass cabinets for $99.

Thanks for that, the hunt continues then as the red one is the best looking one of the lot (or do I want it because I can't get it here in the UK?).

If anyone's selling a red Micro please let me know.

What does the 110v power plug look like on this adapter?

Also, any experiences with the shipping times of PlayAsia?

I ordered one to Australia the other day (day noted in post above...) and it already arrived this morning! But I wasn't home to get it... :( Fast!

I'm sad now.

Is there any possible way to change faceplates without getting dust under the screen or face? ;_;

Scotch tape. Apply lightly and pull.

Or go warm up the bathroom with the shower on hot...Get it steaming...then go in and do it, the humidity will trap the dust in the air and not allow it to land on your screen while changing plates.

Nice recommendation, I will give it a shot. Thanks!

No problem, with the tape it is more of a dab it on the dust. Always works great for when I apply screen protectors to my DS.

Just got my Famicom after 3 days of missing the UPS man.

I never realised how well made these things are! It's a perfect cross between classic console construction and a modern piece of kit, feeling more quality than any other gaming item i've bought. Probably the most satisfying video game purchase i've made, to be honest.

The steel enclosed back was a surpise, and just how shiny the red & gold is doesn't come through in pictures! The D pad and buttons are solid and satisfying too. Thanks GAF! I would have hated to miss this! My lady was even excited coz she loves old Mario games and she wants to use it with a handful of classic platformers.

All this and I haven't even turned it on.... ...now to just wait for my USB charger cable.

I hope nobody mind, but I'm bumping with some more photos of the Famicom-version, got mine today. :D

Got my Black Japanese micro. Very nice. I'm never taking the faceplate off this one after getting so much dust in my other one. Famicon faceplate doesn't quite look as good as I hoped with the black body.

And it looks like I won't really use this unopened copy I have here so I think I'll sell it for 40 bucks shipped. I'm giving Farore first dibs.

Got all this stuff today, the Micro came in the mail as I was getting home. The screen is realllllllllllllly tiny, but very bright and detailed. I can dig it.

i love my micro after a few days of using it, but it just bothers me a little that the screen seems like it could be slightly bigger considering the dead space on the front panel around it. was it a case of not being able to fit the other components in the thing? the viewing angles are kinda bad too.

but otherwise perfect.

Hrm. I hate GAF. I really do. All these pictures makes me want the black Micro and the Famicom versions. Already got a blue one which I'm afraid to use because it's so nice, shiny and new looking Awaiting a silver one which I'm planning on using as my 'disposable' one. (i.e. actually use the machine and carry it around alongside the mobile phone).

Yet I still want those two colours specifically because it's a GBA Micro.

Must be going mad.

So, I'm going to florida on friday then I started reading this thread and all I can think now is "screw my DS how am I going to survive my trip without a micro!"

what's the sleekest case you guys know of for a handful of GBA carts? i'd like to keep about 8 or 10 in there, but i'd be willing to have smaller capacity if the case looks really nice.

all i can seem to find on amazon and the web are fisher price type deals and neon glow single cases.

How much are you guys generally spending on these? I'm going to see if I can find a good deal on the 20th AE one in Canada.

Finally got a hold of a Silver Micro and have safely stored the amazing blue one. Now I feel that I can use the micro now instead of trying to keep it pristine! :lol

Seems like my R bumper gets stuck every time I press on it. :(

Any tips?

Mmmm… if the machine is new just press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it, press it and… press it. I've 'fixed' a couple of ones this way, even a DS :D

If that doesn't work I guess you'll have to open it.

I'm not sure, as I bought it long ago, but you can find the 20th anniversary edition (both jp and us) at really low prices in eBay.
