Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

I'm feeling the GBA resurgence lately...so I've pulled out my GBmicro and I can't say enough about how much I appreciate the real pocket handiness of this thing, plus the durable alumnium casing, almost scratch proof faceplates..its aw-aw-awesome.

Been playing Metroid Fusion, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Oriental Blue on it. Looks crisp and nice.

The DS should make one that's not made out of plastic...would bring in better form factor and would even look like a slick gadget than a toy.

I love my micro. I'm looking for a new action game for the thing, and the only thing I can think of is Ninja 5-0, which is un-findable at this point. Gah.

got mine on monday, spent the whole day yesterday trying to find some good games that i can buy. no such luck!
every store seems to have abandoned the GBA, the only games i saw were "CATZ" and "KIM POSSIBLE".

ebay to the rescue!

Great thread. I still use my Famicom Micro from time to time to play Rhythm Tengoku. Now that the bit gen games are being remade on Wiiware, I'm gonna pull out all my bit gen games and have a retro weekend.

You guys have put that peer presure on me and I must get one for the fact that I am also planning on getting a DS I. This will look better in my pocket then a GBA or an SP. I plan on getting a used one at a store on Saturday but, I also want a new one for collectable purposes. Wheres a good online store that has them for cheap? I don't want an auction site.

I love my GBM. I got a Famicom edition brand new for a really good price during a random sale. It was only supposed to be the regular editions on sale but this particular store didn't differentiate. :D

I wish Nintendo would have released more face plates though.

I just bought one a little bit ago and just got home. I have some questions since its used. How do I change the light settings on it? How do I know when its finished charging?

Screen brightness settings are changed by holding the L shoulder button and using the volume buttons.

The letters of the START and SELECT buttons are lit in blue while the Micro is charging (and they are lit in red when it is low on batteries). The lights turn off when the machine is fully charged.

So now I'm pissed. I decided to lift the faceplat to try and clean the screen. When I tryed to put the faceplat back on it broke. Now I'm a little angry 'cause I don't have any money 'cause I owe it all to my Mom.

Edit: After breaking the faceplat I returned it for the fanicom version but, I really need to take the faceplat off to clean it. Any suggestions for putting it on so I don't break that faceplat?

I've taken mine off quite the few times without breaking it, so, just be more careful man.

I'm currently on the fence about getting a FFIV Advance micro...and the pics in this thread aren't helping me say no :lol.

That said, should I do it? It's one of my favorite incarnations of the micro, but I don't know if I want to spend nearly $200 (item + shipping from Japan) on it.

Edit: I caved. Hopefully I'll get it either this week or next week. Pics will be coming.

Purty. :>

Since Rotohex just came out on Wiiware, I dug out my Famicom Micro the other day to play Dialhex and Digidrive. Good times...

I ordered a silver faceplate from Nintendo (along with some other stuff) which arrived today. It's for my silver body/black face micro. I figured an all-silver look would be pretty sweet. You may judge this for yourselves in the enclosed picture below.

I also highly suggest that, if you can find it, a copy of Kuru Kuru Kururin Paradise be made a part of your collection.

Thanks assholes.

I've checked on this thread every week for the last few months.

Now look at me, ordering a brand new Micro.

I gotta get some more games 'cause I only own 5 and I also need a new faceplate. I found another two games. One is an extra. The second is one I don't really like the controls but, if I trade it in I will miss it for some reason. Its the MK GBA version.

Hey, that picture looks familiar :D

I got one on the mail a short while ago. Such an amazing piece of hardware, it's a pity they were so high priced at release.

I want the red or blue micro, any idea where I could order one? Quick search with google didn't bring up anything :( I guess I should head Ebay.

There's plenty silver and pink ones in stores here in Finland, but it seems that all the other colors have been sold out. (europe got blue, green, silver and pink)

Hi guys, I need some suggestions for the lesser known gems (I'm covered for the big boys).

You know, stuff like Ninja Five-O, Spyro: Eternal Night or TMNT.

How are the Hajimo no Hippo games?
What about that River City Ransom game? How does it compare to its NES and SNES brothers?

edit: any UK/Euro place online where I can buy skins?

eternal night is awesome! get it.

finding faceplates is near impossible. official ones you can forget about. you might find 3rd party ones on ebay. or possibly amazon marketplace.

Am I having a sub-par experience playing my GBA games on my DS versus a Micro? Does that thing do anything BETTER than the DS?

No. It's just more sexy and I find the feel of the buttons just a little bit better than the DS.

Of course it does, the D-pad is a big win! :D
Are there any online stores who still stock GBA games? It's not that easy to find a game anymore (shipping to europe)

Just got my Famicom Micro today, and I'm already in love. The graphics are beautiful (I've tried Yoshi's Island so far) and the hardware looks and feels awesome. Games look much better than on the DS, and I already know that some games will play better (Metroid games, especially).

This will easily allow me to get a DSi (when I can afford it).

Awesome that this thread made a return. I just busted out my GBM yesterday to play some Ninja Five-O. Great game, great console.

Black faceplate + Maroon body = pure micro sex.

The sharper angle of the A+B buttons on the DS makes it sort of a chore to play games where you have to use both in tandem (i.e. jumping and shooting in Megaman, running and jumping in Mario). This could have been easily avoided by allowing A+B be mapped to X+B, but unfortunately Nintendo didn't have the foresight.
and by "foresight", I mean "common sense".

Also, and this may be personal preference, but I think GBM's smaller screen makes games look a lot sharper. I watched the Fire Emblem Sacred Stones intro on both back to back on a lark once, and it looks really pixelated on a DS or GBA SP in comparison.

Astro Boy was a pretty killer game as well. I kind of wish I didn't sell it back.

Well, at the very least, one can find vanilla plain silver and black ones on Nintendo's support site.

Also... if anyone wants my black with blue flames and pink with a tiny lady bug in the corner face plates, which comes with the silver Micro, just send me an email at matt at fort90 dot com. It's yours (though it would be cool if you bought an issue of my comic in return or something).

My ebay purchase just arrived, finally putting me into the Micro club!

Beautiful machine, the screen is surprisingly sharp and the thing feels great to hold. My only disappointment is the L and R buttons, in that you need to hit them at the top middle instead of anywhere along the top or side like you can with the DSL, but that's relatively minor. Other than that, I'm super happy to have this thing, it really is the ultimate portable.

Yeah, I just got my Micro last week (as a replacement for my DSL GBA player - no way can I go back to the GBA SP) and I also had that problem with the L and R buttons - I'm a finger tip player. You get used to it after a while but I still prefer the DS and SP for games that are shoulder button intensive.

very very nice picture!

I have been playing Mario Tennis Power Tour but I lost my charging cable for my Micro...anyone know where I can score one on the cheap? Gotta get back to my training!

You might be able to find one on Amazon or maybe Ebay.

I just got Castlevania: Circle of the Moon from an Ebay auction ($6.50 w/ free shipping, a great deal) and it looks incredible on the Micro. I had heard that the game was unplayable on the original advance, but it's a perfect fit for this machine.

It was probably discussed somewhere in this thread already, but is there a good website to order Micro face plates off of?

Picked one up at Gamestop and somehow I managed to score the Famicom Micro! :D I wanted the black one orinally but this one is so frigging sexy looking, I love it. Very portable and very awesome. Bought it to play at work, didn't want to bring my DSi since its to big to have at work.

I've been wanting another one since all my gaming stuff was stolen. Can these still be bought new? I love the Famicom edition one. How much?

Ebay my friend. They have a good amount of sealed Micros there. I would scout out your Gamestops for used ones that are in good condition.
