Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

Okay, I'm 90% sure I'll get them given the interest.

I'm thinking 20 black, 20 silver, and 10 light blue... Or should I just go half half black silver and forget the light blue?

Should I cross post in BST? Maybe I'll leave that until I actually have them.

I also might be down for a couple of these as I'm planning on picking up a micro soon.

I would more than likely be interested in a silver one.

Alright, I'm gonna take the plunge then.

I've settled on a mix of 20/20/10 black/silver/light blue. Looks like I have about half accounted for already here.

The build quality looks good from the photos I've been sent.

I have to get them from overseas so it could be awhile before they arrive, but I'll post updates here.

Shipping (which I've checked to UK and US, should be similar for everywhere else) is around $10, and according to my estimates I should be able to fit up to 4 faceplates in a single parcel for the same cost.

Price per plate is looking to be between $10 and $15, that range will depend on the exchange rate for me both when I order and when I start to send them out.

Thanks for coordinating, Peagles. Do you have any screenshots to appease our appetite while we wait? Also, what would be the best payment method? PayPal? Dogecoin?

I would be very very interested in a light blue one.

I'm interested. I still have the originals so maybe I will be only buying a black one.

Edit: I know you are ordering in bulk but I was thinking that a custom faceplate (nothing fancy ) with a small NeoGAF logo would be cool.

Here's mine with my favorite GBA game : )

I wasn't going to buy one until BestBuy had these Anniversary Editions on sale for $50, I should have bought more than one. Got a lot of play out of it in the end which you can see with the scratches : /

I would definitely be in for a light blue one.

I think I talked with you a year or so ago about your access to red faceplates. I bet that color would be quite popular in the US but light blue sounds amazing. :)

I would definitely buy a black one if you can confirm the quality once you get them.

Yeh, the red ones I got were actually from Nintendo, but they only allow you to order 1-2 at a time, and the price is high combined with shipping to NZ. If I could do a bulk order from them I certainly would.

The ones I'm looking at ordering now are third party but appear to be comparable in quality. I'm having the opposite problem though, I can only order a large amount.

I'd love at least a silver one and maybe a black or another silver one. Blue doesn't match my green (Donkey Kong Junior style :^) GBM.

I still would love to get one of those famicom ones, it would look awsome with the green GBM. If you could ever make gold brushed ones, that would be awesome.

Sorry everyone gonna have to put this on hold for a bit, just got my university fees invoice and it's not pretty!

If anyone is seriously interested in doing this I can pass on the details of the supplier. Otherwise I'll try and do this later when I have some money.

Having a SP ags001 model, is worth getting Micro?

The ags001 is pretty bad once you put a micro next to it. The screen is many times brighter. Of course I would recommend the micro in the game boy micro <3 thread.

But realistically, if you are on a budget, you can't go wrong with spending $15 - $20 or so on an AGS101 and then waiting till you find a good deal on a micro.

Where I think the micro shines compared to the AGS101:
-better shoulder buttons and A B buttons
-colors aren't over-saturated
-headphone jack
-you feel cool playing it :)

Today's my birthday and my girlfriend just gave me a Game Boy Micro after I'd told her months ago I'd love to have one. It's... it's beautiful. Too bad it seems I missed out on the faceplates you guys were arranging to get.

Loving it.

You didn't miss out, they just didn't happen because I'm too poor to invest a few hundred bucks :(

Oh, that's too bad. Maybe we could all chip in somehow before you ordered so you wouldn't have to bear all the expenses yourself?

I did think of that, but I think it might just get too messy, particularly since most people who were keen were only interested in following through depending on the quality of them (fair enough, I would say the same thing, but it also means I'd be stuck with hundreds of dollars of worthless plastic if they turned up and weren't good quality).

I'm always on the lookout though, maybe someday I'll find a seller who sells the same ones but will sell a lower quantity to me.

I would love a faceplace to replace my dinged up one. It needs to have a screen on it though. And how do you replace the battery on these things, if you wanted to?

I see how that would be a concern for most. Maybe we could ask for samples if we can convince them there's enough people interested?

I'm waiting for my Japanese GBM to arrive, in the meantime how will I charge it when it does arrive (i'm in the UK)?

Will I need to get a stepdown convertor to use with the Japanese plug that comes with the system, or can I just buy a UK mains charger off ebay and use that?

Alright, I don't know where else to ask this, so here it goes.

I'm well aware that the GBA Micro, DS, and DS Lite can only play GBA Games in their cartridge slot.

But, say if you put a GBA Action Replay or some other adapter into the system. If a GB or GBC cart could fit into that Action Replay/adapter, would it be possible to play those games through the adapter via the GBA Slot?

I ask this because it is possible to play other regions games through those kinds of devices on other systems due to the shape of the cartridge no longer being a hindrance to playing the game.

My do I love the GBA Micro. I made videos about 6 or so years go that resulted in people thinking I used a modified device to play Pokemon on. They hadn't heard of the GameBoy Micro(and this is in 2007). So weird.

One of my best memories is playing with it behind a book during English. So good. So good. Amazing system.

Still impossible. The hardware inside the GBA / SP for playing GB/C games is not present in the DS or GBM.

Either way works. USB cable for charging is another option.

Thanks for the response, i've gone overboard and bought a USB charger AND a 3rd party UK 'all in one' mains charger for £10 in total off ebay.

Update: my Micro arrived as did my uk charger. However, after leaving the Micro charging for just a few minutes it feels warm to the touch, and I'm sure I can smell a little smoke coming from inside, so I guess using a uk charger to charge a Japanese Micro is a no go. Other than using a USB lead how else can I go about charging the thing without melting it? Am I going to need a step down converter as this seems the only solution. I don't fancy having to leave my PC on for 2-3 hours every time I need to charge it with a USB lead.

update 2: Am I right in thinking the 2 start and select buttons WONT light up when charging if the unit is already fully charged? I've found a jap- uk mains adaptor plug which DOESNT heat up the unit when plugged in (yay!), but no lights are coming on to show it's charging.

Perhaps not the best thread to ask this in...

Should I grab a Micro CIB, pretty good condition for 50 or just use my money to buy GBA games through the Wii U Virtual Console?

Depends - do you want a sleek, stylish piece of Nintendo history and wade through the murky waters of pirated and overpriced games, or do you want the simplicity and value for money the Virtual Console games offer at the cost of not really owning them (at least until Nintendo gets their account system sorted)? Both have their pros and cons.

Any recommendations for places to buy replacement GBA Micro batteries?

I haven't tested it, but my Micro doesn't seem to be staying charged as long as it should be. Feels like it might be time to get a replacement.

Personally I prefer GBA games on a portable device. I just got mine the other day and love it. I would definitely recommend getting one.

Well, I already own a few GBA games from back in the day, so that helps out a bit. Is piracy that rampant with GBA games?

Eh, it's rampant enough, but at the same time easy enough to spot fakes if you get familiar with legit card art and whatnot. Usually the cart art is so blatantly wrong (although not necessarily bad looking) that it's obvious. Also bootleg carts themselves don't have the same quality but that's hard to tell sometimes unless you're holding it in hand.

Thanks for replying! So I got one on ebay... not very cheap, but I think it's worth

Every time I see this thread pop up again I'm always tempted to hunt one of these down even though I know I'll only ever use it for a small handful of games.

Feel really dumb for selling mine a long time ago.

They dont play gameboy color games do they?
Really want to find a copy of MGS.
