Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

It looks like my WW: Twisted may be screwed up. I was playing, and it was going fine, but then it started vibrating and making just an awful noise. It scared the crap out of me, never seen one do that before.

You might be thinking of the Bit Generations series (most of which were ported to DSi and WiiWare under the new Art Style banner).
Rest in peace, Soundvoyager. I used to play that game every night in my bed, Game Boy Micro in hand, headphones in ears, and eyes closed. Incredibly relaxing.

I was thinking about getting one of these. My brother has been playing a lot of Gamecube games lately, some that have link cable functionality.

So I look into the Micro to see if it's possible and it seems' like it's not without some soldering skills, sucks, and I'm still on the fence...

There may be someone in this thread who would sell one to you.

Picked up a used Cobalt Blue GBA Micro today. Unfortunately not in as good condition as I wanted it to be, but at least it still works.

Somewhere out there, there should be lots of unsold GBA Micros waiting for loving owners :/

My Micro is in great condition, but, all 3 faceplates (camo, fire, silver) that came with the auction are....we'll say "well loved". If I found a nice single replacement for those, I'd be happy. As it is, I'm just not worried about the unit getting scratched up anymore since it's already happened. :)

Reading this thread has made me want one bad. Amazon has them for 130 new, worth picking up for that price?

I bought mine off Amazon for $90-$100 about 1 year ago. I really enjoyed it for about a year, but eventually grew tired of the very tiny screen. It's an awesome machine, for sure, but the screen is teeeeny! I suppose I'd still be playing it if I didn't get a Vita.

Recently I was able to find someone selling his Micro for 25€, boxed and in an almost new condition. I already had a DS Lite for playing my GBA games, but I couldn't resist to a such a sexy device at that price.

It took me a while to get used to its tiny screen, but man, now I can't play GBA games in another system. My only minor complaints is that the silver one is quite boring and that the faceplate seems to be a bit loose on the D-Pad side. Anyone knows if that's normal?

Recently re-discovered my Micro. Never really sat down and used it after buying it in Japan, since I was too busy with all the new stuff coming out on the DS at the time. Been playing my favorite, Zelda: A Link to the Past, since last week, and I gotta say, this little system is incredible. Clear & crisp screen, beautiful design, I consider it the only handheld that truly fits in a pocket (3DSXL is nice and all, but it beats the whole purpose of the handheld idea IMO).

Since we all love looking at the beautiful sleek design of the thing, here's a pic.

Sorry for the late reply, but don't worry about that.

All three of my Micros creak and bend a little when pressed on the faceplate under the D-pad. It is a normal occurance due to the faceplate being removable.

With how rare faceplates are, I wish Nintendo would have just made them permanently attached... But if the micro succeeded, that would have been awesome to have a set of like 40 diffent faceplates and choose one before going out.

I don't think my Micro is accepting a charge.

I plug the charger in the blue lights do not come up on the Start/Select buttons.

When I turn it on now the red lights come up on the Start/Select buttons.

Any advice from GAF for troubleshooting or potential fixes?

Maybe the Charger is not working. Try replace it.

I thought of that as one option.

Really the only two options aren't that expensive.

Charger is $8 shipped on ebay
Battery is about $15-$20 shipped on ebay.

Don't know the quality of these products though.

I could go verify if its the charger or battery at a local game shop if they have a micro in stock.

I just bought a brand new and sealed English version of Kuru Kuru Kururin on eBay for $12/shipped! Ahhhhhhh, the game I loved so much years ago will finally be mine once again to try on the GBM I found a few weeks ago!

I wish I hadn't sold my GBA collection! I could be playing Ninja Five-O on a GBM right now!

Well I just bid on and won a red GBM for $30 NZD, that's about $25 USD I guess.

It's got a local wall charger which is great because I currently use a USB charger (both my chargers are JP and don't work here).

It didn't come with a faceplate but luckily I have a brand new red one spare from my order with Nintendo Australia last year. I feel like I should order some more before they run out...

Damn! I've been looking for an official red faceplate for my GBM for ages. I'm based in the UK, and Nintendo doesn't sell them here. Are they still available from Nintendo Australia? I'd love for someone to ship me one if possible. Happy to pay all costs.

I'd be happy to try order one for you when I put in my next order, they had them when I ordered at the end of last year. Though it'll be much more thrifty for you to get someone in Australia to make the order since through me we'd have to do international postage two times over.

Any Aussies hang in this GBM thread?

So what's the going rate for a brand new-in-box (still sealed) US version of the 20th Anniversary Edition of Mario Gameboy Micro? I bought one, still have it, and I'm tempted to sell it in order to get me a Vita.

If there's any serious interest, shoot me a PM.

It's a relief to hear that, thanks!

Just got this in the post. Will update with a pic tonight!

I got my copy of Kuru Kuru Kururin in the mail the other day. It sure feels good to be able to play this again, and it actually works out just fine on the smaller screen of the GBM!

I'm looking for a GBM to GBA link converter. play asia have them, but they're so expensive that I might as well buy a second GBA SP instead.

If I can't buy an adaptor for a reasonable price, is it possible to hack together a gbm-gba link cable? both cables can be found pretty cheap and I don't mind chopping them up and soldering.

I love my GameBoy Micro. I actually gave them out as gifts to my Groomsmen at my wedding. Each Groomsman got a game that suited their particular tastes too.

dropped by goodwill today and saw a micro box sitting on the shelf for $3. It was complete with all inserts and manuals.

Too bad someone had apparently stolen the micro itself.

fuuuuck. So close.

Hey, I'm having this problem too... somewhat.

Just tried to charge it last week after a year or more and it wouldn't work. Start/Select lights went blue for a second and then turned off.

I tried multiple chargers and none worked.

I figure that the system's charge port is messed up somehow. It's pretty depressing.

Probably not! I had the same problem with my first micro.

I got a replacement battery on eBay for like $8 to see if that was the issue. All you need to do is unscrew one phillips head screw on the side and then pull out the old battery (pull hard but slow, you dont want those wires to strip).

The replacement battery was really tight to plug in but it started the micro right up. It also holds a charge just as well as the OEM battery.

Forgot to post a pic til now :)

It has a bit of damage like it's been dropped on one corner, but since it's metal it doesn't really show up. I bought it without the faceplate but since I added my brand new red one it looks like new anyway!

Wow the red looks great!

Like a ferrari

Hello. I'm beginning to get interested in Micro solely to play the GBA RPG's like Pokemons and Fire Emblem. What is the average entry price that you should look for for a regular CIB Micro in europe?

Honestly probably my favorite Gameboy, or maybe just behind the SP. I liked how the lights would glow and changing faceplates was neat. The screen was small as fuck but it was still pretty chic.

Finally got around to buying a new charger.

Holy fuck all the good gba games are so extremely hard to find: Advance Wars 2, Pokemans, Fire Emblems. So in the mood for a pokemon right now god damn it. Dont even care which.

For the time being I guess Ill be level grinding my FF6 chars so I can do that new dungeon they added. Fighting dinosaurs all day with dualcast and mp cost=1 relics. Sabin already at 99. Up next is Terra i guess.

Man I fuckin love this thing.

It is mine Game Boy Micro.

I bought it from second hand in very good condition.

:)

Just want you guys to know that your photos pushed me to purchase a micro off eBay this morning. Thanks!

Is there a good site to purchase faceplates from? Or do you just have to try your luck on eBay and Craigslist?

Ah this thread again. =D

After getting hold of Advance Wars to try and get into (FE:A has me wanting to go back to the genre) and also having a sequel to LTTP looming, it's about time to bust out the Micro again for some longer sessions.

Managed to order some face plates off Amazon as my silver one is scratched to hell, and also ordered a SC Mini SD to try out on it.

All those sexy pics of the Famicom one though...

Are the micros region free btw?

Missed an auction yesterday on a boxed copy. No units on sale in my country, trying to find one that is in good condition from ebay/amazon.

Yup, region free. :)

What country are you in? Finland? If you have a budget, let me know in a PM and maybe I can find one here for you.

Yikes, 3 months late posting this, but here she is... My green Micro!

I'm really thinking of picking one up, ever since my house got robbed I've been without a way to play GBA games and I've been craving to play Megaman Battle Network 5 recently.

Yes, they are. It's not until the Nintendo DSi does a Nintendo handheld have region locking.

And a damn shame they started to do that as well. The whole region thing has always infuriated me.

This thread got me interested in getting one so I hit up ebay to see how much it would run me...dear lord these things are expensive. The cheapest one I found was something like $100. They look cool but for that much I'll have to pass.

Yeah in the past few years it seems like the price has doubled. I remember getting one off of eBay for ~$50 back in 2011 or so.

I still think AGS-101 is the best way to play GBA games. A modded original GBA with backlit screen is nice too.

I hate to even say it, but check around local Gamestops... I've seen a couple still out in the wild, but they're hard to come by.

My local independent used game store has (had) one for $50, and I occasionally see one pop up on craigslist for <$100.
