Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

I've said it before but I'll say it again. Wal-Mart. I haven't seen one there in about a year or so but I was able to buy two sealed units for $30 awhile back. This was well into the DS life span.

can you tell from this kind of image if there are dead pixels?

The right half of the screen? I see four things that could be dead pixels. Don't know if they are or not.

I hate to even say it, but check around local Gamestops... I've seen a couple still out in the wild, but they're hard to come by.

My local independent used game store has (had) one for $50, and I occasionally see one pop up on craigslist for <$100.

also, check "Game Boy Mini" on CL or eBay from time to time and hope for a deal on a mislabeled listing.

Just got mine back from the friend I gave it too back in 2007 before going to Australia. Had to order a new charging cable as it had gone walkabout but other than that, glad to have it back.

Finally part of the club =D

Got a good price for it on ebay used, very good condition. I do have a question though, what is the recommended way to hold it? It so tiny and my normal 'handheld' grip feels uncomfortable.

Anyone interested in getting one of these, I've put mine in the Buy/Trade/Sell thread. Have a look here. If this is against the rules, please give me a heads-up and I'll edit.

Can i post yet?

Edit: Wow, didn't know I could post yet. Glad to finally being apart of the Neogaf community. I look forward to future discussion.

I found a seller on eBay that had like 10 of the GBA micro famicon edition new for $200 and jumped on it. It arrived yesterday and man, this thing is gorgeous! No pics but you can find plenty online. A bit expensive yeah, considering I already own a GBA, GBA SP, and GameBoy Player... but I love hand helds and I would say it was totally worth it.

Welcome! Join the micro goodness.

Totally worth it. The famicom edition is one of those things that feels like should have been JPN only, based on how awesome it is. I play mine almost daily but no longer take it out with me. I am sadly up to two GBAs, two SPs, three micros, three DS's that can play GBA, and the Gameboy Player. haha.

Lets get this Micro thread rolling again!

I bought a famicon edition but haven't opened it yet because I already have a second generation sp. Was thinking of saving it for a couple of years to see if I can resell it for more but I'm really curious to see if the screen is that much better.

I recently acquired a Game Boy Micro in excellent shape for a very attractive price (50€ with a couple of games). And I must say it's by far the best handheld system I have ever owned. The screen is incredible, it fits right into my pocket and the battery life is awesome.

Big bump and I posted this in the general GBA/GBC thread too, but EZ-Flash IVs seem to be being manufactured again! They're a little more expensive but not too ridiculous. Go go go!

After seeing one of these reviewed recently on Classic Game Room, I kinda want one. Even though I have an SP somewhere that hasn't been touched for years, and a PSP that runs GBA games very nicely...

Two questions... what's the battery life like? And is there a way to get original Game Boy games to run on it?

Taken from Wikipedia.

Battery: Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, up to 5 hours of battery life with top brightness and sound or 8 hours with both features on default.

I feel like I've gotten more time out of mine but who knows. I'd definitely consider it to be a good battery.

I can't really say about Game Boy games, though. Purchasing the games you want and running the roms through a flash cartridge would probably be the only solution.

So you're saying there isn't a missing piece of hardware inside that prevents it from playing Game Boy games, it's just that the cartridges don't fit?

Love the things. I have a Famicom one and a Pink one I picked up in a random bargain bin for around 30$ in Norwegian money.

I remember purchasing one of these bad boys. I skipped over the SP, and I ended up with a Micro instead. Needless to say, I loved the thing, actually. I don't really regret buying it one bit.

Nope, the Micro doesn't have the parts to run Game Boy games, but I did some digging because I don't know much about running them off a flash cartridge. It appears that there was an emulator made specifically because of the Micro and DS's lack of support. It runs through the cartridge and is "decent but not perfect" according to a forum poster.

That's all I've got. There's some YouTube videos to check out, and it seems stable from the games that were tried.

Goomba Color (unless there's another emulator out there) works okay. I played a few gyms of Pokemon Red and it seemed to work fine. I expect GBC emulation to be wonky at best, especially with demanding games like the Zelda Oracle games.

I remember driving an hour to a GameCrazy in Bumfuck Nowhere to get mine. It was the last one they had in stock, and I ended up talking to the guy behind the counter for an hour about GBA games and gaming in general. A few weeks later I got a GameCrazy flyer in the mail and he had written "Hope you're enjoying the Micro!" on it.

My cheap Micro link cables finally arrived, all brand new and all certainly official!

Now to find some cheap GBA-GCN cables so I can mod some for Micro-GCN connectivity!

Oh man, so much memories playing SMB1 on the NES limited edition model (which I still have but I couldn't find it).

I do have the original model (and the ac adapter).

Would there be any interest if I made a bulk order for some faceplates for GBM?

They're not first party but I'll be able to verify the quality myself when I get them. Colour options I have currently are black, silver, and light blue.

I'd be down!

Good. Now I've been told I have to order at least 50 but I can mix the colours. They can make other colours but that'd be more expensive (cos I guess they'd have to make a new batch for me and it'd be much larger than 50 too).

I could post them out from here in NZ for about $10, no tracking but insured.

Final price would be dependent on how much they charge me to bulk ship them, but my gut is that it'll be better than trying to scrounge for one on eBay.

Cool. This looks promising. Could people also say if they just want one or would be interested in a few? I have to order at least 50 and happy to do so it's just a lot of money for me to blow if I get stuck with them, hehe.

Looks like it should be between $10-15 each and at a guess I should be able to fit up to 4 in the same parcel for the same postage cost ($10 untracked but insured).

I just couldn't pass up on the price it was going for on ebay(Original retail price, but brand new), and bought one (UK version). What sucks is that it's shipping from India, so it's gonna be a while till I get to play Batte Network 2 again.

I do remember my younger brother getting one, but I have no idea what happened to it. :(

Is that a micro in your pocket?

Or are you just pleased to see me.

But honestly, I still have mine somewhere and they were so awesome, much Pokemon fire red was played on mine!

Okay, I'm 90% sure I'll get them given the interest.

I'm thinking 20 black, 20 silver, and 10 light blue... Or should I just go half half black silver and forget the light blue?

Should I cross post in BST? Maybe I'll leave that until I actually have them.

I'd quite fancy a light blue, but if there's not much demand I'd be find grabbing a black and/or silver if that's all you end up getting.
