Ebay, its worth it

It takes time to find on for a decent price on ebay though.

I just made an offer on one on Ebay and won it though, has taken me months to find a decent priced one.

Now...to call Nintendo of Canada to see if they have different faceplates available than what's available to you Americans =D

just bought a micro famicom edition (jap. import) for something like 120bucks (90euros),
didnt find a cheaper one here in germany.

Anyone wanna trade gba games? I just bought Jet Grind Radio on the GBA. I don't like the controls.

I'm looking for

ChuChu rocket
Double Dragon
Anything from the Super Mario Advance series
Anything from the Bit generations series. I'm willing to pay for my shipping. You will have to be willing to pay for your shipping also.

Is it just me, or does the refresh rate seem faster on this screen? I could just be imagining it, but some of the animation on here seems a lot smoother.

I have done many direct comparisons against the GBASP (frontlit), DS, and DSL.

The Micro pixel refresh is on par with the DSL. Which is to say that it is pretty bad. There is significantly more blurring on these two displays.

The SP image is rock solid, with barely detectable blurring. The DS is one small notch blurrier, but nowhere near as bad as the Micro or DSL.

This blurring may be why you think the animation is smoother.

I don't have a backlit GBASP to test, but since it seems to have brightness on par with the Micro and DSL, I have to assume it has the same level of blur.

I have two Micros, but some things about them have really been bothering me lately.

Comfort: The shoulder buttons cramp my big hands in long play sessions. I really noticed this with Metroid Fusion. Yes, I am holding it properly and pushing on the inside of the buttons.

Sound: Goddamn, this has low quality sound. The speaker is so weak, even at maximum, that I can't hear anything if I am in a public place. Compare this to the GBASP or DS, both of which have sufficient loudness. Also, the headphone jack on the Micro gives off a constant noise, varying from high pitched to lower pitched, depending on what is going on in the game. Both of my Micros have this and I tested with several sets of ear/headphones.

Screen size: The small screen is ok, but a little too small. An extra .5" diagonal would have made a world of difference and the case size would have only been marginally larger.

Image quality: The small screen and high pixel density give the impression of a sharp screen. However, the contrast on the screen is poor. It has a grainy look not apparent on the DS or GBASP. It also has a significant amount of motion blur.

I recently acquired a "fat" DS, and it seems to be the best compromise. It has a larger size and more comfortable hold than the Micro or DSLite. The sound over the headphones or speakers is loud and clear. A larger screen makes a huge difference, although I admit the GBASP is the best in screen size and quality. The image quality is one notch lower than a GBASP, but miles above the Micro or DSLite.

All that said, I now have two Gameboy Micros which will be hitting the market soon. I planned on putting on Ebay, but may consider posting them for sale on various forums. They are the US releases of the black/silver and silver/black. I bought extra official black and silver faceplates, and I will include one of each with each Micro. They are complete in retail box and everything is like you had just purchased it yourself.

I will update within the next week or so.

I got this exact same one. The Happy Mario edition is so much win! Better than the north american version because it has the mario logo on the back and not some stupid serial number. Also the box is so nice, and it comes with a string bag, so nice... I might post sexy pics when I have time.

sweet. Went to another GS that had one with a terrible camo faceplate (really scratched) but had no dead pixels, but they let me exchange my silver faceplate (scratched, but better) and take the one without dead pixels. They even let me take a MH Tri demo (the other GSs I called said you had to pre-order). Fortune smiles upon me this day.

The GBASP+ has a bit more blur than the DSL, and the Micro has significantly less blur than either.

My tests were done using Rhythm Tengoku's bouncing rabbit level.

Black Micro and Metroid Fusion came in the mail today! :D :D

I called to see which faceplates were available to Canadians, and they seem to be the same.

Ladybug and Camo.

The downside is that shipping is $7.00 on a $6.50 CAD faceplate =(

Lucky bastard. The GBA Metroids are so good.

It seems that the only colours available here in the Netherlands are:
Silver, Blue, Green and Pink.

I would really like a Black or a Famicon edition.

just put my super duper famicom micro (amerucano) into it's charging position (with the back sticking up in the air)

I so am gonna put gunstar heroes tonight

Would you kindly tell me where exactly? I have a Famicom one but I wouldn't mind picking up a spare silver one.

Check www.marktplaats.nl. There are several silver Micro's on there.

I could probably pick up a US black in exchange for a pink.

But the US blacks have silver faceplates (looks better to be honest).
Would be cool but it would it probably would be a huge hassle for both parties.

Does anyone have non-product shots of the purple micro? I saw one on Ebay today while searching. I couldn't quite tell the the shade of purple.

I'm hoping to join the micro <3s club soon!

Yeah, well I can't let it weigh me down. Also I've moved on. If you let that stuff weigh ya down you'll get nowhere in life. :D

I just received the sealed Game Boy Micro I ordered from eBay, and the box is different from any Micro box I've seen. It says, "Plays All Game Boy Advance Games" on the front. Is this a real box? I don't want to open it because I don't know if I'm keeping it yet. It has the clear, circular stickers on it.

It's not quite the purple you and even I are thinking of. It's more pink than purple imo.

Hmm...I've never seen that box before. I've bought two black US micros and they came in window boxes that show the micro and the two extra faceplates. I'll try to post a pic tonight.

VV EDIT: Yeah, Dragmire's pic shows the box my micros came in.

Maybe it's not a US box? I live in the US and this is the only box I've ever seen.

And to be honest, the "Plays all Game Boy Advance Games" logo seemed weird to me, like those systems from Hong Kong or whatever that play old NES games and stuff. I mean, other than that it looks like a Nintendo box. I just wanted to make sure.

I know. :D Played Zero Mission and loved it, and Fusion is starting out nicely.

You have no idea how excited I was when I saw a package in the mail. :D

When I bought my Famicom Micro (Black Friday Wal-Mart sale a few years ago), the both the ones for Silver and Black came in those boxes. I've also seen the clear ones with the faceplates - but that was when they first came out in the US. So no worries about the box.

Actually. Those boxes are also U.S. There were two types. That one doesn't have any extra faceplates while the first run did. Besides cosmetics, that's the only other reason.

That's what I have (Canada box I believe)

Looks legit

Okay, thanks for the confirmation guys. I googled the Game Boy Micro box and couldn't find any that looked like that. That's why I was unsure about it. Glad to hear it's legit.

Yeah that's the second run of Micros they had. I think they lowered the price at that point too.

When I was in the market for a Micro, I also questioned that box. A little research showed that it was simply a later release without extra faceplates. It actually has a slip of paper inside which gives an instruction manual update to remove the sentences mentioning the extra faceplates and faceplate removal tool.

I'm glad I bought the extra black and silver faceplates when I did. They had them for so long, I thought they would never run out of stock.

The charger for the micro is the same as the ds lite charger right? I can't remember as it's been awhile since I had a micro, lol

Nope. They look the same, but the Micro charger won't fit in the DS Lite and vice versa.

This thread has made me want to get a Game Boy Micro now, despite having no need for it...

I had an Advance SP and DS years ago, maybe now it's time to come back

I really wish I would've thought to check about this during the holidays!

My local GS had a Micro for $30 but it had no charger and the screen was a bit scratched up. It didn't register in my mind that I could have easily replaced the faceplate and found a charger elsewhere so I passed. D'oh!

I'm going to try to find some Micros here in Japan before I move back to the US next month. I know one store that usually has the Final Fantasy IV model in stock (used, of course), but I don't remember how much it costs.

Is it really any better than a back-lit Game Boy Advance SP?
It's a matter of preference. The SP isn't my go-to Game Boy what with this, the original, DSlite, and the Game Boy Player for GameCube. The SP's front light in a poorly lit room is great, and the screen is a nice size. I do feel as though my hands cramp a bit much in games where I'm using the shoulder buttons a lot. Whereas with the micro I don't get that. However, the screen is a lot smaller, and I find myself playing for short spans of time. I suspect that was Nintendo's intention, what with it being called "micro," it basically begs to be picked up and played.
