Just posted an article about this. I had to reference some of my previous encounters with gaming journalists thinking they knew what's what when it comes to fighting games...

VG247: Little Mac might need a nerf in Super Smash Bros. 3DS

Fire up Super Smash Bros. 3DS and step into For Glory mode, and you’re almost guaranteed to encounter a Little Mac player within a couple of rounds.

Anecdotal evidence suggests Litte Mac is the most commonly selected fighter, and somewhat overpowered.

...

A number of helpful players have created guides and FAQs for dealing with the character, which is nice, but the breadth and variety of complaints about Little Mac suggest Nintendo will probably want to think about nerfing him a bit.

Kotaku: Smash Bros. Might Have a Little Mac Problem (For Now)

Ever since the release of Smash Bros., I've consistently seen players complain about the same thing: the character Little Mac, especially when it comes to the competitive 1-on-1 For Glory mode. Apparently, some people claim, the mode is swarming with Little Mac players.

...

Regardless, just to test it out, I started counting characters in matches. Obviously, my findings are limited as far as sample size, but they are interesting. Here's what I found:

Most characters appeared once. The second best characters, Luigi and Ness, appeared twice. Little Mac appeared twice as much as those characters, making up a total of 20% of my encounters. Given that the cast includes over 50 characters, that's a significant rate of reappearance—and this is that I think I got lucky, and didn't find as many Little Macs as other players claim to.

(The sample size was 20 matches)

When the only competitive map Nintendo put in the game is Final Destination they could be right.

Please!!! It's a ridiculous character who just traps you in neutral A moves until a simple smash happens that kills you. That instant kill is unnecesary.

This is hilarious. I admit I was astounded when I fought a good Little Mac player online because he looks amazing when someone knows how to use him but that sample size is way too small.

Mac is both better and worse than people think. I have no idea why some many people play him online when he really requires you to pay attention to spacing and pokes.

I guess people like to spam dash attack.

I thought Bowser was supposed to be a bit overpowered. Little Mac hasn't seemed any harder to defeat than any other fighter in my experience so far.

If you are asking for a balance patch 4 days into a game, you don't have any kind of grasp on the meta game. By this logic, if patching were available for Brawl, we'd have nerved Ike in the first few weeks.

Little Mac is about as OP as Ike was in Brawl. He doesn't need a nerf, he's just a very effective pubstomper, and to no one's surprise, most game journalists aren't very good.

If you think he's OP, it's because you are failing to take advantage of his weaknesses. Basically, if you're trying to go toe to toe with melee, of course he dominates. That's his thing. He can't do anything in the air, which every other character in the game can. So sure, in melee he is the best, but don't meet him in melee. It's not hard.

I just did for glory for the first time and three of my first four opponents were Little Mac. Definitely seems like SF4 Ken redux.

Bowser's giving me much more trouble. Feels like I can slap him around for ages, while he only has to guess right two or three times.

I actually think he's fairly balanced for Omega stages. He needs a lot of room to work efficiently, and his air play isn't that good. If you can space yourself, Little Mac isn't that harder to manage with than other fighters. Basically:

Of course, what he misses with his awful recovery, he gains with his agile groundplay and his powerful smash attacks. I can certainly see him being a little overpowered in his home stage, for instance.

For Glory works in his favor a bit as the lack of platforms work to his strengths, but even then it is so easy to gimp his recovery and get through him with throws. If they actually would nerf him(not gonna happen) his other crippling weaknesses still existing would make him outright useless.

Little Mac has clear, advertised weaknesses. His REVEAL TRAILER said what he sucked at.

The key is to force him in to those situations. You have to, you know, fight characters differently.

It's like saying you can't beat Akuma because you've been standing at a distance and he keeps throwing fireballs and there's no way to handle that.

I play nothing but For Glory and I've hardly noticed him dominating. More Robin, Rosalina and ZSS in my experience.

It's been a popular opinion in the Smash community for awhile, though the game hasn't been out anywhere near long enough to determine if he breaks balance of the game. His aereal abilities are very weak, and other characters may prove to be powerful counters by exploiting that weakness.

Frankly, Rosilina is more likely to become this game's Metaknight.

Of course he's everywhere in for glory. He's easy as hell if the person you're playing against is awful, and considering it's super smash bros, that's gonna be a lot of people.

The thing is the For Glory Omega stages kind of play to his strengths. If there were some stages with a few platforms like Battlefield or Dream Land things wouldn't be so bad. As it stands LM has a clear advantage in For Glory. #NerfBatLittleMac

But Akuma is scary at every distance. =)
