Game journalists think Little Mac is OP in Smash, publish actual articles about it

There was only one guy who gave me issues with Little Mac. I adjusted, picked someone else, and then proceeded to own him. He promptly left.

All while having massive cramps in my hand.

Speaking of these Sentinel comparisons, how cool would it be if Little Mac constantly screamed "HYPER LITTLE MAC FORCE!"

If anything though, this speaks to how silly a decision it was to only have Final Destination variants of the stages in For Glory/Omega Modes. Game needs Alpha (Battlefield), Beta (Dreamland 64 there's a big difference with how big the blast areas and the height of the platforms are for people who'd say "but you already said Battlefield"), Gamma (Yoshi's Story Melee complete with a themed Randall for the stage), Sigma (Fountain of Dreams Melee) and Theta (Smashville Brawl) options.

i want to point out that when the game came out in Japan, competitive players were calling Little Mac absolutely terrible on the first few days

Also it's actually funny when you're playing Mac and know what you're doing and people get mad that their super obvious edge baiting attempts aren't working

Good Macs will probably never be caught anywhere but center stage. It's going to be so interesting watching their meta develop.

If the matches were random, that's (almost) fine. Statistics is all about applying random samples of small groups to large populations.

If 20 was an acceptable sample size for anything then my life in grad school as a research assistant would have been a hell of a lot easier.

I love it when I beat someone's main and they switch to Mac, just spamming dash attacks and eventually side specialing off the stage.

Y'all crazy, Lil Mac can play offstage too. We're redefining the metagame. This is some Tokido Urien owns the fuck out of Justin Wong's Chun-Li at EVO 2002 tier bullshit.

Lil Mac top tier for days.

Little Mac's side B may be (almost) guaranteed suicide, but hitting your opponent with and knocking them out before you fall is 4 Glorious

Well he did beat Mike Tyson

punchout1.png

hahaha perfect

A good Mac isn't aggressive. People said he sucked the first few days, then at one of the first few tourneys someone played him such that they would wait in the center for the opponent to come to them, and would avoid the edge like it was fire

Does Japan even have a Smash scene that's worth acknowledging?

Little Mac is about as OP as Ike was in Brawl. He doesn't need a nerf, he's just a very effective pubstomper, and to no one's surprise, most game journalists aren't very good.

Mac is both better and worse than people think. I have no idea why some many people play him online when he really requires you to pay attention to spacing and pokes.

I guess people like to spam dash attack.

I've been playing smash since the beginning and I don't know what these community terms mean lol.

So the VG247 article was based off the Kotaku article, and the Kotaku article is written by someone who pretty much daily just takes something from Reddit?

Nerf Little Mac

Scrubstomper: Easy day 1 character that destroys most people playing the game for that period.

Pokes: furthest reaching attack move that isn't a projectile. Primarily used for spacing orto punish something at max range.

Little Mac is probably one of the weakest characters. His options are very limited and his weaknesses are quite easy to exploit.

yet my friend beat me with him >:c

I dunno. Mac's ground game always seemed just a little too good to me.

With that said, I don't play Smash competitively, so I'm not going to be frothing at the mouth about it, and running articles about it seems a bit silly.

Just when i thought I could deal with most Little Mac's, someone online shows me how overpowered his backroll is. Holy shit.. I still learned the matchup and won but holy shit why did they make it so good, camping the edges is hard now because he can run -> backroll 3 times in 5 seconds to bait you and then get a hit

The little dude is hardly op. He's quick and hits hard, but that's about it. He can't afford to get knocked off the stage for obvious reasons.

His quirks make him a fun character to use. It's fun to send characters flying and you get a sense of great accomplishment when you win against someone who isn't terrible

Little Mac isn't broken, For Glory is. The fact that he wrecks people that don't know what they're doing doesn't help.

I love how the screenshot from r/Smashbros admits he's not OP, but everyone uses him, a nerf is only needed for OP characters. A character that's 'meh' and just popular does not need a nerf

Pretty much this, mac is useless near the edges

You're really, really not giving the character enough credit. He is not as bad in the air as people think, and the KO punch is sheer bullshit. He's got an instant comeback mechanic that you have to bait out or eat for a no-skill KO. Plus, he's got good horizontal recovery with his leap and charge. Sure, if you gimp him off stage he can be stuffed, but he can also bait out the gimp and counter you to gain lots of ground and recover.

The character is straight up not fun to fight against for a large portion of the cast and the latency online makes it frustrating to react to him. This guys is insanely good on the ground, and can instantly punish most of the cast out of landing lag. His attacks have lots of super armor, as well.

I personally think he needs a nerf to KO punch gain. Weaker hitting characters are so vulnerable to it as they're unable to KO him before the punch comes out.

He's good. He's not god, but wow is he frustrating to fight. Nothing like working your ass off just to get a whiff punished with an instant KO at 40%.

I've wanted to use Little Max since Brawl characters were getting announced. With all the hate he's been getting it feels shameful to use him though. ;_;

I will give you this:

He's tough to fight against online with the lag factor against a good player who has a lead. Mac has insane defense/counter when wielded by a competent player.

But, from my early observations, the players who use him offensively (most players thus far) are pretty bad. He can't really pursue the other characters who know how to dodge and think about defense. Just make him come to you, dance circles around him, and he's putty in your hands.

Little Mac is a funny character because you really have to resist the usual Smash Bros tactic of rushing into the fight and jumping in the air for crazy kills. You gotta be patient, watch your spacing, stay on the ground, and capitalize on opponents' aggression.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if it's possible for Namco/Nintendo to patch For Glory mode to allow all the other stages be playable?

...I thought this was the "usual Smash Bros tactic".

@_@

Weird, I don't remember these journalists complaining about Vergil in UMVC3 or Cammy/Akuma in AE2012, or Yun in AE!

Remember that one MVC3 launch day review that said Arthur ruined the game?

For the uninitiated, these two characters are irrelevant in competitive play.

Never forget Team ASS going on an absurd streak until Marn came through and put us on to the early peak of Marvel 3's end game with Zero. :lol

Sometimes it feels like the communities around the games get more press and articles than the actual games themselves. I wouldn't say that's necessarily a bad thing however. Always cool to see interest in tournaments and other events from regular game centric websites.
