I was going to mention this too. Except i would say they are more than semi-important characters, they are pretty important to Bran's storyline and his understanding of his..situation. Not to mention they are just awesome.

I think they're just using Osha as the one that understands him and combining all of their knowledge into her.

They will probably show up next year. They can just have Jojen dream that they would meet outside Winterfell. I'm sure there are some other scenarios that could work.

I was pretty psyched for this casting, as I was familiar with Rose Leslie from Downton Abbey. She's perfect for it.
Really great episode. The deviations are fine. The whole Arya/Tywin thing bothers me slightly, but I don't mind the Jon/Ygritte changes. The Osha stuff could get problematic, but it's too early to know for sure.
Agreed. That scene was a miss for me. It's a good thing the rest of the arcs really picked up the pace for me in this episode.

I really like those two characters but this could be a good oportunity to give Osha and Rickon
some actual presence in the series after Winterfell is sacked, instead of just not mentioning them for like 4 more seasons.
She has already proved to have decent knowledge of the world's mysteries, ie the red comet. She always seems to have an answer.

I think it was a smart decision to cut down on characters in that particular storyline. Although who knows what's coming in Season 3.
As a matter of personal opinion, while they had interesting elements of world-building, Bran's chapters in COK/SOS were absolutely brutal to slog through at times. They're the number one reason cited by all my friends who have abandoned the series in either book.
I think it was a smart decision to cut down on characters in that particular storyline. Although who knows what's coming in Season 3.

I've seen fans speculating on who they would like to fill the parts, so far I think Caitlin Stasey would be good for Meera. I recall another actor who would be perfect for Jojen but I can't remember his name.
Another great episode. Particularly enjoyed the stuff with Theon taking Winterfell at the start and of course, Tyrion slapping Joffrey silly. I already like Ygritte a lot, so that's yet another casting win for this show. Cannot wait to get further into the Jon Snow/wildlings stuff. Only 4 more episodes left :_(

The Westeros review spends a lot of time complaining about Dany's dragons being stolen and how unrealistic it is...but while reading the books I constantly found myself wondering why no one would just steal her dragons and enslave her. I didn't really like how it was done in the show, but I'm not opposed to what happened.
Her dragons aren't hidden away in retarded ass baskets in the book. They're dangerous creatures and only Dany has a handle on them.
I have finally accepted that there are going to be sweeping changes and that I should not compare tv episdoes to anything from the book because it drove me mad.
The stolen dragons works great as a part of tv drama, as a book adaptation strong wtf.
The tywin/arya scenes are awesome as tv but book wise ARGARGRG.

I'd say the crossbow-wielding gold cloak Yoren took out is more dangerous right now.
Edit- To clarify, I'm talking about the dragons on screen, as I'm sure you are too, now that I re-read what you said. I'm honestly asking though, since I can't remember; were they painted out to be much, much more dangerous creatures in COK, even as baby drakes?

Not only is it necessary going forward to deviate more from the books, but deviating for the right reasons makes for a better TV show, even if some people that have read the books might be upset about the show being different.
As long as the show maintains the spirit, themes, and characters from the novels, they can deviate as much as they want as far as I'm concerned. I'm enjoying the stuff that is not in the books.

compelling shit for Dany to do in future seasons is going to be one helluva task.
The next two seasons will be a cake walk seeing as she is a very busy person in ASOS. I grant you that year 5 will be tough.

I was referring to the book. They aren't anything at all in the show. In the book they are at least out and about and seem more unpredictable, the Khalasar is described as being nervous around them. That and the book also describes "legendary" dragons of the past and make you aware of their potential for destruction, I guess.
I was just saying why they aren't just stolen from her. They'd probably fry any stranger that tries to manhandle them.
I haven't seen any evidence yet to support the idea that the show deviating from the books has made for a better show. Mayyyyyyyybe the Littlefinger scenes might be an example of that... And in that case I might agree but nothing else has worked out so well. I guess killing off Daenerys bloodriders and servants is supposed to make her storyline more exciting (since it's really slow in ACOK until the THOTU) but I don't feel it has made it any better. It's not like I cared for Irri or Rohkaro in the books but if

I recall one of them appearing in THOTU and burning the place down. Was that after she escaped or while she was still inside?
In ASOS that character has one of the most badass moments in the entire series, for me at least.

Some decisions are poorly made- see Ros. First as a tool for exposition, and later treated as if she was a character that matters.
Others work well enough- simplification of Arya story, for example, has worked better for the show, even if perhaps the overall story might be worse.

I don't think it'll be too hard. They're obviously going to merge Feast and Dance together in the show, and all they gotta do is slice, like, <Dance>
two/thirds of the plodding sit around cumming over some dude plot point, which can easily be filled in with more interesting components. Like eight extra Emilia Clarke nude scenes!

I'm kind of worried that the show is going to muddle my memories of the books to a degree.
I'll definitely need to re-read the series before The Winds of Winter comes out so that I don't get the events from the show confused with the events from the books.

This has happened to me with LOTR both ways. I expect things to happen in the movies that happen in the books and vice versa. It's obviously more biased towards the movies, but yeah ... just something you have to deal with.
I like to think that they're all just interpretations of the same story and that the details really don't matter.
Don't worry, you still have about 7 years to re-read the series before the winds of winter comes out.

This bothered me a little as well in the books. These guys are supposed to be really powerful with all kinds of soldiers. All Dany has is her pathetic khalasar and Mormont.
