Gamepro Has its Debug 360, Halo2 works..

OK. However, since the system has yet to be shown in a form where the internal components are housed and run inside of that mock up case, there is a pretty good chance the PSU will be on the outside, connected to the cord. What's the power consumption for a G70 and a current form of the Cell-based processor at?

Yes. it would be a clever thing todo for Sony to make it outside.
I dont have a clue about powerconsumption. Probably alot..
but a outside psu and a internal one can put out as much current.

This picture shows us that the PS3 has an internal PSU.

Early shots of the X360 case mockups/prototypes/display things (at E3/MTV thing/Japanese press conference announcement-type-thing, etc) showed it with a regular AC plug on the outside, too, so it doesn't really show us anything about what the final design will be (for the X360 mockups, it was just there to power the LEDs on the front, i believe).

I think its time to stop poinless complaining about how the console look, and get back to the real topic. Making fun of the Way J allard looks.

ok, a look at the Xbox360 site, where you can rotate the xbox, you clearly see the same connector on the bottom of the 360 as on the ps3.
so maybe its some heat problems they havent fixed yet, or the final hardware will run cooler?.

I just found this little doodad in the FAQ for the bethefirsttoplay contest.

Q: Can I use my old Xbox games with the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system?

A: Yes, the older games will be compatible with the Xbox 360 system.

Surely you didn't expect them to be honest about it. I reckon they may release a few patches during the launch period in particular but after a year or so the BC project will be quietly shelved.

Man, fuck that. Seriously, it sounds like the X360 is going to be a drain on the power. I don't want to have to go flip a fucking breaker (which would cut off my entire comptuer run most likely) every day. Geezus, how can they make it so large. That's like 5 times the size of the revolution itself. Industrial thick power cable? I hope I'm overreacting. I really do have a lot of electrical devices in the room where I'd have the X360.

This may very well be the worst post I have ever read, ever.

Here's a couple of better pics of the power supply. (This is for a debugg/test machine)

I've heard it's a 220 or 250w PSU as well, so any people in Europe who want to import an NTSC console might need a whole new stepdown to use it (as was the case with going from PS1 -> PS2 on import). If they don't already have a suitably huge one already that is.

so thats why the boxes are so big on that assembly line

i dont see why you guys are making such a big deal about this. its just the power supply. who cares. as long as the unit doesnt overheat im ok with it

That's hilarious. And will pose a problem as I won't be able to slide it under my entertainment center. I wonder if all next gen consoles will have such beastly bricks.

EDIT:

And the Gamecube Power Supply isn't even a third of this bitch.

That thing is freaking HUGE. I'm almost positive they'll be making a smaller version for the retail package. They have to. The magnetic field that thing could generate could probably power other consoles. Aye carumba.

They should have made the PSU the XBox. It's not much bigger, wow! Then the whole backwards compatibility issue becomes moot. 2 birds, 1 stone. (All in jest good sirs. Okay, maybe half in jest).

Again I'll ask - If I want to play online with the 360 *and* my XBox, do I need two Live accounts or can one be used on both consoles? Sorry if this has been covered before.

Gamecube also use 4x less power ;). Unless Nvidia redesign the RSX, the one for the PS3 should be even bigger. A fanless PS for more than 200W cant be small.

As Gore mentioned, I don't think the GC's is even a third the size of that thing. It is dwarfing the surge protector next to it. That's a big bitch. It shouldn't be a problem for most though, but it sure is huge. I hope the PS3 doesn't need something that unwieldy. Seriously...that's just huge. I've seen 300W PSUs for a PC that are smaller than that thing. :( PEACE.

I think at this point we can conclusively state that Xbox 360 blows everyone away in one aspect, no matter their fanboy affiliations:

The size of the power supply.

Come one, come ye all, ye unwashed masses, ye Madden Circle-Jerks, ye Touch Screen Fondlers, ye saints and ye sinners alike. Come touch The Power of X and be blessed.

That is the devkit PSU. It is about an inch or more longer then the final PSU. The final PSU is a little bit longer then a gamecube PSU, but not as fat or tall.

He's mentioned that fact twice already, if memory serves, and the thread just keeps on going! Gotta hand it to GAF and its one track mind. :)
