Gamepro Has its Debug 360, Halo2 works..

I don't have the XBOX and I was hoping that there would at least be BC for the latest games (i.e. released within the last 3-6 months ). Its very disappointing that this now doesn't seem to be the case.

If the BC list turns out to be just 5-10 games, then Microsoft should have just stuck to their guns and said that there will be no BC period.

shh let them go off. It would make a nice crow thread later :P

OK, a pic of the power supply is coming very soon.

In the meantime stay tuned for more. I'll be posting a list of all first party titles that we'll test on the debug, including how the 360 reponds to them.

Thanks for the updates :)

well that's fine. I'm guessing (just off the top of my head) that all the $19.99 games will work, plus 500,000+ sellers and more well established games.

So like off the top of my head:
Ninja Gaiden (both versions)
Brothers in Arms (both)
SCII
DoA 3, DoA XBV, DoA U
Colin McRae Rally
Riddick
OutRun 2
Midway Classics 1-4 (or whatever # they're on)
etc

Those are just off the top of my head. Halo 1 & 2 not withstanding.

Yeah I hope you are right as I plan on giving my brother my Xbox once i get the 360. Just sucks that they only have 2 games to show for it as of right now. :\

I sorta figured this might happen. Its not too shocking to hear now. I guess I'll buy another Xbox along with some more open space down my block.<rim shot>

Seriously-I can't be bothered for hoping for miracles. I have too many Xbox games I've enjoyed-I'm not about to cast them aside because Microsoft dropped the ball on the one area of the 360 that needed improving.

Another Xbox it is. I sure wish they have a price drop.

Oh come on. If they hadn't done it at all with anything, people'd be railing on them for that too. If it was 100% b.c., people would complain about game saves and controllers not being compatible. They are damned any way you slice it. I appreciate their efforts, however futile. If you haven't tossed your XB1 yet you really shouldn't care one way or the other.

Incidentally, still having an XBX is exactly why I care. Being able to sell a previous system at this point is extremely important to me, not being rich and all. It would have softened the blow of adopting a 400 dollar system significantly. But because of this haphazardly done, stop-gap method of BC (which was done, let's be frank, in order to blind the consumer and make them think they were on 'par' with PlayStations feature set) I can't do it. That's 50 or 60 dollars I won't get toward a new system, which in my budget is a LOT of money

May I ask what the purpose of this exercise is?

Each Xbox 1 game will require an HD patch, and your Debug kit obviously doesn't have the patches installed, other than the Halo one.

Unless anyone is planning on scamming a debug kit, I don't see what the relevance of your investigative project is.

This may be a dumb question, but how to you load games in this thing when it's standing vertical? Looks like the DVD's would just fall out.

You wouldn't have to. I'm sure the uprising would cause the hackers to do that on every Xbox site.

I really don't see them charging for backwards compatibility. It just won't happen. It can't. Right?

I don't think I'm taking a big risk with this bet. It just would not make any sense *at all*. Even MS would not do this mistake, and they sure did a lot since they first announced Xbox a few years ago...
FiRez: go ahead :)

Agenda exposed!

Considering the devices are being manufactured now, it really doesn't bode well for good compatibility out of the box. Sure, there can be a patch available on LIVE on day one, but that's not exactly 'out of the box.'

What if they sell them online with the promise of a free download six months later. lol

Patchtacular.

:lol I'm sure MS knows that would make this whole situation a whole lot worse, they can't be that stupid surely.

Magic probably.

Microsoft has already said that the backwards compatibility updates would be free auto updates that take place whenever you connect to Xbox Live. Like what happens now when you connect to Xbox Live it installs a quick patch and then reboots the game.

I don't agree with this line of thinking at all. Any game they can add as compatible with the new system adds value to the system.

I don't think people are thinking clearly right now. Just adding Halo 2 support alone adds a lot of value to the Xbox 360 for a lot of consumers.

I'd rather have BC late than never. I'm extremely disappointed with what sounds like their lack of progress so far, but if they do continue to work on it, it will be very worthwhile in my opinion. I know some people who didn't have an Xbox who are getting an Xbox 360 and they would like to buy some of the Xbox games they missed out on. I also intend to continue playing all of my Xbox Live games on my Xbox 360.

Xbox BC Pack 1

(list of games here)

$4.99
i can see them actually do something like this...

i mean, 3 months ago did you expect $40 firct party video cables?

....

and in other news, MS didn't lie... they never gave a date for BC, and Halo, Halo 2 and Fable *ARE* 'Top Selling' Xbox games...

Not trying to damage control or anything, but how about we wait a little closer to launch retail units have been tested and whether or not this patch will be available near launch?

Only having 2-3 titles backwards compatible on day one doesn't make much sense.

I think it would be a lot smarter for MS to just raise the price of Xbox Live before they ever start charging people individually to buy backwards compatibility for each game they own. It will never happen. They already said a number of times the patches will just be a part of the autoupdates on Xbox Live.

psst. When the 360 went into manufacturing, whatever games worked with it then will work out of the box. apparently there are no debug kits so to speak. It's either retail or xdk.

but guess what?

Games are going gold soon, and wanna know something else? The updated patches will be *gasp* on the game discs for an auto-update! zomg?! zomg!

Stop getting your ps3 panties in a bunch.

yeah, and they said every xbox 360 would come with a detatchable 20gb hdd, xbox live headset, wireless controller and component/composite cables...

i mean, they just have to say that backwards compatibility is expensive to do and you only have to buy the paks with the games you play and many people will buy it...

They said "all the top selling games", not "three of the top nine best selling games." :p

Oh please...this conversation would be best if you kept yourself out of it. You're Microsoft's sworn defender, we know that. This has NOTHING to do with the PS3 at all (it's actually 3rd on my list of most wanted next-gen consoles), so cut that PS3 crap talk out.

This thread is a perfect example of how bad information gets as info gets passed down the grapevine. Man you guys suck.

Facts....

1. Nobody here (including the editors of Gamepro) have any idea how many titles will be BC. Whats available on the debug kits should not be considered gospel for the retail units.

2. There is no fee. Funny how a magazine site likes to say things that'll get you to click their links, huh?

3. Nobody give a shit about the size of the power supply.

Thanks and have a great day. :)

:lol I think we just witnessed a NDA break, lads.

Wow, I hope that guy doesn't get fired :/

Also, *if* the 360 only launches with 3 games that are backwards compatible, colour me unimpressed. LAME. Basically they are employing the Bleemcast methodology, which was fine for playing PLAYSTATION games on your DREAMCAST. *sigh*. Guess I'm gonna have to pick up another XBox before they disappear. What a waste.

I wonder how long they'll work on increasing the catalogue of BC games before they come out and say "Interest in playing XBox games on the 360 has waned, therefore no more resources will be devoted to new patches". What a nasty half-truth. I'll still be getting one, but disappointment++.

I hope you guys that are saying to wait for the retail version of the 360 are right, because right now, this news is crappy.

Does anybody know if there's a final answer on whether or not you can use your XBox Live account and your 360 account interchangeably????

The power supply looks exactly like the fucking ghostbusters trap. It really is *huge*

While it shouldn't be a reason to buy or not buy the system, it really is gigantic.

And it is the one that will be shipping with retail units.

what are you talking about? You don't wear PS3 panties?

For shame. They're quite comfortable.

And no, this conversation is best with me in it, why? Because I use logic instead of jumping to conclusions.

Poor bastard :lol

I look forward to the X720s emulator of X360 emulating Xbox games :P

3. Nobody give a shit about the size of the power supply.

Ill give a shit if I have to take doors of their hinges to get it inside my home!

You could've had a good thing going with your post, but it all went downhill here.

I guess you're right...I should have said that I don't care about its size. I've lived with the brick attached on the Gamecube and its no big deal.

I really, really hope the Xbox version of Star Wars: Battlefront II works on the 360 as my computer isn't really that good to play games on and I don't want to have to buy an online adapter for PS2.

You use your OWN logic. Delusionnal fanboy logic.

The size of the PSU for a console might not be that big of a deal if it sits behind my entertainment center ok. The brick charger that came with the PSP does suck though...

Well we've had our fun, but we'll find out next week. Allard said a list of compatible games will go up on Xbox.com sometime next week. I forget the interview. I think it was Eurogamer.

Perhaps *every* Xbox 360 will work with Halo and Halo 2. Even the core pack. But you need the hdd and patches for all other games? Just a thought.
