GameReactor Xbox 360 scans

Did anyone notice the ports on the bottom of the controller in the second picture? I'm assuming the headset plugs directly into the controller now...

If this is old news, please just ignore me. There are only so many 11-page threads I can sift through.

Kind of what I was thinking. Maybe you can run your cable through the Xbox 360, with it having some kind of Tivo-like functions? Maybe record a show while you're playing a game? This would be very cool.

You're not gonna be recording much on a 20GB drive. Maybe over a home network to a Media Center PC, or maybe to an external, USB 2.0 HDD.

i will expect that if xbox 360 has any tivo like features it will be done like a media center via the PC. It will get its feed from a capture card on the computer. I hope it doesn't require a media center PC, though... that would be a massive surprise and selling point if it only required XP.

Considering hobbyists and programmers have put together something that does this for free on the original Xbox, I'd be deeply disappointed myself. It's something MS can really have over Sony and Nintendo if they do it right. XBMC rules.

But it just might be included in the base model, now that's a big plus.

Oh and I want please that controller...secularily. It's so damn beautiful *tear*

That would be great.

Can someone translate the HDD part?

According to the article, the two fans will react to what you are doing. For example turning off while watching a dvd movie.

Really nice feature, always thought xbox was loud.

It seems the system can also determine whenever it is in vertical or horizontal position and change the "air flow direction" accordingly.

Some rough translations by me:

Peter Moore:

On Halo 3:

Hey SantaCruzer, can you verify what I translated in the other thread?

"Peter Moore didn't want to talk about neither the Halo-series, nor about Bungie when we met him, but he was pleased to tell us that a new Halo-game was underway. He even said it was no secret. Expect part three sometime this year."

Yeah. I doubt MS is into promoting Ipod. BG just stated he thinks Ipods success cant last and that muisc enabled phones are the next big thing.

*You will see TV thru your Xbox

maybe just genlock stuff. So you can leave your xbox on standby while watching TV, and it can 'wake on LAN' to notify you of someone on your friends list inviting you to a game.

That'd be pretty cool to me, and makes things a bit more spontaneous - less having to make appointments to game.

Doubt about the tivo stuff, but you never know. If they are passing the video through, its only a small step to record it - but then recording while playing will require reserves of power..

I noticed but noone cared......It's prolly to make it easier for the casuals to play on the free weekends.

maybe, they meant "compatible with all MP3 players"

most MP3 players are just mass media drives with a built-in interface. I would think that you could plug any mass storage device (MP3 players, external hard drives, digital cameras, etc.) into the USB port and the 360 would just see it as available disk space.

I've translated the bit about the joypad.

- Wireless is standard.
- Is a bit smaller.
- Same plastic feeling and analoge buttons.
- The old white and blak buttons now work as an extra set of shoulder buttons.
- The button in the middle is called "The Ring of Light" and indicates what controller you are holding and if you have any invites or other Live related stuff.
- Rumble.
- Rumble can be adjusted to save battery.
- Comes with two rechargeable AA batteries.
- Is recharged through on of the systems USB ports. It doesn't say anything about a cable or base.

More information.

- System is designed in collaboration by Jonathan Hayes (Microsoft employee), an american and a japanese company.
- The system has two fans and one of them is turned off during dvd playback.

My favourite thing about those pictures, the xbox dashboard screen has a button labeled "Shutdown".

Shutdown button + media streaming = no reason for me to bother modding Xbox 360

Nice work MS.

Also the bit about media streaming from PC doesnt say Media Center PCs, it says XP...thats awesome if true.

MS is going all out, very nice touches all around. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm damned happy they entered the videogame world, they're really pushing gaming/media convergeance in a very nice direction.

Oh and, BUILT IN WI-FI!!!! NO MORE 100ft ETHERNET BULLSHIT! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It's correct.

btw it also says that RSC3 is underway by DICE.

It doesn't say built-in wifi. The specs says:

Online:

Xbox Live built-in and integrated.
Ethernet-port.
Prepared for Wi-Fi 802.11
Prepared for videocamera (high resolution 1280 pixels wide).

I'm guessing Wi-Fi will be sold as an assecory like the camera.

This year? Really? We'll see.

Can't see much point personally. No competition and FPS are...let's say well covered.

Gonna try and translate some maybe untranslated stuff:

* Circle of light button takes you directly to the dashboard.
* Starbreeze, the Swedish team behind Riddick, are working on a The Darkness (comic) title that's supposed to be great
* Fable, directors cut is supposedly being worked on by Peter Molyneux. Live enabled.
* (PS2 news) God of War 2 is being, created. Not known if its to PS2 or 3.
* No HD-DVD support mentioned in article, all other formats though, +JPEG CD.
* Prepared for WiFi 802.11 and high definiton video camera (1280 pixels wide).
* Upgradeable, removable 20GB harddrive (!).
* 12x DVD
* Some kind of memory card, atleast 64mb...?
* Every game ever made for the X360 will support 16:9, 720p, 1080i and the possibility to listen to a personal soundtrack while playing

More later...

It literally say "Prepared" for both the vidcam and wifi thing.

Also says it'll be able to stream music from PC (WinXP) and then it says that video and pictures can be streamed from digital cameras..? No mention of PCs there. And then ofcourse you can send these pictures or movies to your friends on XBL.

I'm still thinking that devs aren't tapping the machine yet. Especially since final dev kits only recently went out...

Hmm, I hope it's built in then. But chances are it isn't, ah well, guess you can't win them all.

I hope any standard USB wifi adapter

If that's the case, it won't be a big issue at all. Just a bit of a hassle.

I hope any standard USB wifi adapter and USB camera works.

I doubt you'll be able to use any wireless adapter, they need to be configured. Probably the same with webcam.

Well maybe it has some amazing autoconfig software builtin.... you know, for encryption and channel selection and stuff.... dunno but I dont think its impossible.

Wow. This changes everything for me. I was gonna sit it out. Now, if MotoGP4 is announced (3 is what, next 2 months or so for Xbox?) then I think I may bust a nut.

blimblim mentioned that he has heard the same IIRC

If gears of war looks as good or better than the vid we saw a while ago, at 60fps, then I will shoot anyone whole calls it Xbox 1.5 from that point on.

me too, I can afford a monitor but not and HDTV

Yes please, I'd love to play this on my PC monitor at high rez.

I want to know wabout this xbox live gold/silver thing, anyone want to clarify for me?

Oh and the player indicator on the controller is a nice touch.

Gonna try and look for that Live info, check for edits.

Edit:

* Xbox Live Gamer Card, wich has all of your information. No word on it being an actual physicla card.
* Live Silver = DLC, DL demos, Video chatting, all free all the time.
* Live Gold = Play online (exception MMORPGs, wich may demand extra fee).

Oops, then it says it'll be able to dock with the iPod and... I don't know this word, "yndlignsnumre", but when I google it it refers to music, mp3's and stuff, so...

that scan of the controller looks like the 'ring of light' is a spinnable button. In the scan there is an open portion pointing to the 1 position. You can probably manually switch between each of the four channels.

Then I guess it just lights up to tell you to check the dashboard. Would be nice if it can give a little more context - I wouldn't want to jump out of a game each time, just to find out its spam, or just a friend going online.

AA batteries?

fuck 360 man

ifit were LiIon, at least i would know they could recharge worth a damn, but AA is fuckign stupid... now i REALLY wish they had 4controller ports instead of the stupid wifi bullshit...
