Gamers Nexus: Get it together, NVIDIA | Terrible GPU Driver Stability

JohnnyFootball

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.

I have to mention that I gamed on my 4090 this weekend and had no issues with the drivers.

However, frame generation has been shitty on both my AMD 9070XT and nvidia, making me wonder if it's a windows issue, which is just as likely.

Between this, missing ROPS, no availability, still concerns over melting connectors Blackwell is easily the worst nvidia GPU launch of all time. Maybe worst GPU period.

I knew nvidia was going to do the bare minumum for gamers given that their focus has been on AI, but even I am shocked at how incompetent they have been.

AMD drivers are shit though right guys?

Its genuinely getting hard to want an Nvidia GPU now because idk if i even want to deal with all this extra hassle, risk and worry just for better path tracing

Nvidia put their B-team on GPUs and it shows up and down, from the design, to the drivers, to the QC, it's a total mess.

Not for my 9070XT. I've had no issues whatsoever and I love the fact that I can easily undervolt/overclock.

Although I am dealing with annoying microstutters when I play games like AC Origins or Odyssey, but I think it could be Ubisoft games since i get no issues in Doom Eternal.

However, the AMD GPU app is dogshit. Far too many screens to navigate around.

I honestly liked the original nvidia control panel the best. The new nvidia app has been ass as well.

The latest drivers have caused black screen in my 4090 a few times. Another issue that I never had before is that my TV does not recognize my pc and I have to unplug the hdmi cable off and on. This happened immediately after installing the newer drivers

Nvidia stop spending money on coke and whores and fix your drivers!

Will Transformer model DLSS work with this version? I use DLSS Swapper to put the latest version.

Indiana Jones had quite annoying issues with my 4090. I had disable Auto Low Latency to be able to use frame gen.

Interestingly, I found frame gen worked best when my 4090 was brand new.

Right now, it works like shit.

Same with AMD, and makes me wonder if it's a Windows thing.

Not sure about US but in Canada we no longer have gpu shortage . Not in the capital anyway
My local Microcenter has had 5070s in stock for a while. Nobody is buying those. Of course the cheapest one is $699.

5090s are a unicorn at this point.

Yea I can go take a drive right now and buy a 5070, 5070 Ti, 5080 easily. 5090 don't seem in stock though.

I was looking into buying a 5080 like yesterday but sadly I realized that my options with my case are very limited, I went with SSUPD meshilicious back then for SFF and now the GPUs are too long to fit so I have to rethink my build and likely change case. Kind of tired of SFF extra costs and limitations to be honest, I think I'll go back to ATX cases.

Fortunately only thing i noticed is one crash in the ending video in Karma the Dark World. Which could be the gamen, fantastic game by the way. No issues till now on the latest driver and a 4090.

I have two major frustrations with AMD

1. I cant pass my HDMI cable through my Onkyo NR-6050 without losing VRR and ALLM. nvidia GPUs work perfectly. I have to use my TV and pass eARC back through the receiver.
2. AMD GPUs can't use HDMI 2.1 in Linux, which is a damn shame since building a Bazzite/SteamOS machine was my main motivation for going with AMD. now I am stuck with Windows

I used that case. I loved it. More than meshroom S the newer version ( better build quality and not an awkward power button.

With that being said these cases have a big flow. The heat is being pushed directly against the back of the motherboard. Heating both the motherboard and the video card when the hot air bounces back from the motherboard

The only solution I was able to find is to install a low profile exhaust fan on the top between the motherboard and the gpu ( has to be low profile otherwise the top cover won't close ) ( I did this with meshroom S . Not sure if the older version can install that too. )

I honestly recommend just changing the case. Buy something abit bigger like the lian Li Dan A3

Looking at the new SSUPD, Xhuttle. ATX case but really unusual and SSUPD's lessons learned in the SFF space I guess reflects on it design wise. Its more vertical than long which I personally prefer on desk space (why I picked meshilicious in the first place) and is a no compromise case full ATX and the GPU is suspended and has a ton of space.

There's also a way to flop it like a typical tower but everything is inverted, which works but it wouldn't be the config I pick, just nice that the case allows it.

Can even flip the GPU sideways

Now... to find one in Canada... I'll have to be patient. Sold out.

Im getting random black screen flashes on monitor for like a sec or two since i got my new 5070ti. Sometimes almost nothing all day, sometimes i get like 3 in 1 hour. Thankfully it doesnt do it during games, only when browsing internet etc. Still annoying.

If you have a FOunders Edition, the Fractal Ridge is absolutely amazing for the GPU.

Even though I'm on the RTX 30 series, these drivers are also causing me problems. I was thinking the problem was the game, Dragon Age Inquisition, being from EA, a massive RPG, it would be prone to bugs.

If I'm playing the game and turn off the TV (OLED, right? I don't risk leaving the TV on if the game is going to be paused for a long time), the game crashes. Since Gamer Nexus mentioned issues involving monitors, frequency, Gsync, I assume it could be related. And in the most recent driver, the game started to have some graphical bugs, with the geometry sometimes taking a long time to render (like PS1). Since I've been playing this game since January, I hadn't seen these bugs before, only now in the most recent playthroughs (like yesterday).

I'm going to revert to the December driver to see if anything changes.

Ive been having crashes on my 4080, maybe that explains it. I did do a new clean installation and no issues since so knock on wood.

I hate these kind of cases. to me, this case is just a flipped normal case. but I do not like cases that have the GPU upside down/sideways. especially if the GPU has any liquid metal ( i don't think any do ), but the OCD in me kicks to high gear fearing that it will start dripping on the rest of the GPU etc.

I don't think the case is attractive at all. I didn't like any build with it. . but this is of course a personal taste. but to me this is a no no

this case is way more attractive ( and funny looks even smaller than the ssupd case you suggested )

Yes, the transformer model will work perfectly on pretty much any driver from the last 12 months.

I'm on 566.14 on both my 4080 and 4090, and I've used DLSS swapper in combination with Nvidia profile inspector to get DLSS 4 with preset K up and running on quite a few games and had no issues at all.

Sounds more and more that DLSS4, FF, and G-Sync and so on have gone bad after the 566.xx drivers.
However, ao far no issues for me though, even on 572.83, and the Nvidia App do enough for me, it keeps track on new drivers and have DLSS4 override for whitelisted games.

It doesn't matter that their focus is on AI, GPUs really do not need to be that much better for rendering so we are going to get a minimum improvement each gen from now on. That is actually kind of a good thing.

How is that a good thing?

Love the 4090 I have now but some of the niggling issues with multi monitor (at times) are not as smooth as I'd like them to be.

My experience is 99% solid but they need to sort out RTX HDR for multi monitor other little issues which nag from time to time.

This is same resolution on all displays but 2 120hz plus 1 144hz display. The PC works well enough and I may be in a niche but I would like it to be a little more seamless

that's why i dont talk shit about one company or the other cuz in know in one point they are gonna fucked up.

btw i have one rule about drivers. dont update if its working.

I haven't had any issues with the 5090. All rops, no driver issues, no freezes and very good temps.
Performance is great, and i'm very happy with it.
Not excusing Nvidia for all the issues some of these cards have, but it all feels very far from my experience.

I'm not doing any overclocking (except for the small factory OC the card came with) and I have set a 90% power limit in Afterburner. Not sure if that's all it takes to make it stable, but at least it works fine here.

The latest one. Install it and see if there are any issues. You can always downgrade in that case. Don't listen to techtubers clickbaits.
I agree that it's likely clickbait, but it's a massive hassle imo to use DDU and re-install on a machine you have a lot tied up in besides gaming.

It's sarcastic. I was making fun of the whole "AMD Drivers bad" sentiment that seems to have suddenly disappeared/diminished in the wake of Nvidia's own driver failings.

I still haven't tried it and likely never will.

I don't know why anyone bothers with it when profile inspector does everything that does and more, with the added bonus of not being intrusive and lightweight.

9070xt here. Only issue i'm having is constant crashing in CP2077 when using pathtracing. Normal RT is perfectly fine.

Otherwise- GPU has been problem free in Helldivers 2, Days Gone, COD, Remnant 2, HFW and Spiderman Remastered.

Frame gen actually worked well last year. This year it has sucked.
