Games to play with girlfriend

Hi,

What are some good, short games to play with a girlfriend? I only see my girl on weekends (namely, tonight), and story games bore her rather quickly, and we dont have that much free time to be able to play longer games anyway. I've gotten her to move around Blood Gulch in Halo and kill me and run me over a few times, but that's too much effort considering we only see each other on Saturday nights usually. I own all 3 major consoles, plus NES, SNES, Genesis, PC, etc.

Examples of games she enjoys:

Dr. Mario, WarioWare Inc., Super Mario 3, Donkey Kong Country series.

Obviously she likes puzzle games, but we've both played out Bust-A-Move, Dr. Mario, Tetris, and WarioWare Inc. I guess the games don't necessarily have to be short, but RPG's and long action games (Ninja Gaiden, Riddick, etc) are out of the question. I'm looking for quick to start, fun to play, engaging games. Games easy enough for someone who has been weaned on NES & SNES. Even an adventure game would be cool, but it HAS to be cool enough to hold our interests for more than a few minutes.

Hmm... I guess in short.. something not complicated, entertaining, and fun, in that order.

Thanks guys!

You only see youe girl one day a week and you want to spend it playing games? Oooo boy... :lol

Anyhow.. Mario Kart: DD, Mario Tennis etc.

Get her a DS, if she likes Wario Ware, she's gonna love Feel the Magic and Mario DS minigames. If she likes Bust-A-Move, Dr. Mario and Tetris she's probably gonna love Puyo Pop Fever (GC/PS2 i think).

Monkey Ball! I play it w/ my gf and even her brother and sister all the time. It's just so fun and simple yet not boring like most simple games. Monkey Ball is basically the perfect game for multiple people.

SSX Tricky/3- Lots of fun.

I was kicking her butt in Mario Party for Gamecube last week, my first time playing, she got quite mad, lol. She ended up winning somehow after all the points or whatever tallied up at the end. Good choice, what else you guys got?

Do you not have an SP or anything like that? I guess I assume too much when I think that most people have one or two. My fiance and I battle our pokemon pretty regularly. I try not to beat her. The GBA has a lot to offer for those quick games, AdvanceWars 2, the pokemon, Four Swords, and plenty of others.

X-Men legends perhaps? Smash Bros. and Double Dash might provide some good and relatively simple times.

TA and Magical Drop, what's good about them?

Magical Drop is so damn addictive. Just like Puzzle Bobble, but with different gameplay mechanics. Very easy to get into and very difficult to put down.

girls love DOA:XBV

mario party 4/5 maybe, but they tend to be rather drawn out affairs because you can't skip anything due to bad game design.

I'd get myself a DS before I got her one because it'd just sit around her house. She did say she'd love Warioware though. She beat it in 1 day in 6 hours, lol.

Monkey Ball didn't enthrall her for some reason. Me and my friends played it the past two nights (Golf, Bowling, Race, Fight) and had a blast. Weird, she loves monkeys too.

Did you play only the party games? W/ 2 people I prefer just playing the switch-off progress-through-the-levels mode; it's fun as hell watching people work through a level only to freak out and fall off at the very end.

What does TA have over regular Tetris?

It's nothing like Tetris really, it's just a name Nintendo used to bring gamers in. Looks like this:

You move the white cursor round and when you press the button, the two blocks switch. The idea is to line up 3+ blokcs and when they go others collapse around them so you can set up combos. The blocks gradually move up and you have to stop them reaching the top, but if you get a good combo or number of blocks, you send extra rows to your rival (in multiplayer).

In my experience girls love puzzle games, and this is one of the best.

I'm thinking Ico might be cool. I've still never beaten that. I'd also like to check out Magical Drop 3 but I don't have my Saturn so I will note that for the future.

SSB:M might be good, too.

I'd love to get her into a fun, simple old school style adventure game like the old PC Sierra or Lucasarts games. She's real weird. She's cerebral (loves puzzles) but does not like to be bored either. But she's not bred on 3d games either, so if the game is 3d and uses lots of buttons, it'd need to play slower.

Keep the ideas rolling!!

It is excellent. Put more time into it then the original Tetris.

She could also like Zooo. It's an import, but pretty much all in english. Available for GBA and PS2.

other people will likely talk about tetris attack, but magical drop 3 is just as wonderful, if not moreso. it's a puzzle game with bust-a-move-style falling bubbles. and it's incredibly fast-paced. fastest puzzle game i've ever played. the strange thing is that it manages to be easily comprehensible at all times.

it's good in single player, but shines as a 2 player.. easy to learn, and after a few minutes, you'll be able to hold uninterrupted conversations with your opponent with no trouble. it's remarkable in that respect. if you've ever been in "the zone," you know what i'm talking about.. since being introduced to it several years ago, i've converted several skeptical friends. at least try it.

if you do, grab the saturn version, not the playstation port. the non-existent load times go a long way.

To try in future
Katamari
Puyo Pop
Magical Drop(same?)
Tetris Attack

To try tonight
Ico
Monkey Ball in Single Player

Anybody like any old/new school adventure games? I really liked them but I play them with Rose Tinted Glasses and most don't hold up today or are really too stuffed in the story department and take a damn long time to become interesting. Obviously I can't play any that I've played before because I know all the solutions. Something that would be fun to play with a girl.

...and magical drop 3...
Oh god, my uncle has that emulated on his XBox and it's ALL we play when we have our weekly gaming sessions. We've become quite good at it as well, getting 10+ combos each effectically killing eachother at the same time.

We just need to get a beamer now so we can play with balls as big as our head :D

My girlfriend has played and enjoyed the following with me...

Donkey Konga
Super Monkey Ball
Halo: Combat Evolved
Wario Ware Inc
Super Mario Advance 4
Sega GT 2002
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Tony Hawk Series
Frogger Series

She tried her hand at Doom 3...But wasn't too successful, and I don't think she liked it too much. Haha. But yeah, those games above, she really liked.

I'm crossing my fingers for you, man, b/c I know if you're like me you'll probably break up w/ your gf if she doesn't enjoy Monkey Ball in some way. ;P

Adventure Games? Day of the Tentacle is an obvious candidate for fun, but you're pretty right about most of them being better through a nostalgic lense.

How do you have Magical Drop 3 on an Xbox? I have a modchip on my Xbox but there's no Saturn emulator for MD3 is there?

Where's a good place to pick the game up? Was it released in America?

Animal Crossing stole my girlfriend for a few months last year.

For multiplayer games, she's always been a fan of racers. Wario Ware is big on the list too. She's also been enjoying Astro Boy: Omega Factor on my SP most recently.

you can try the arcade version. not as good as the saturn port (lower framerate + worse graphics.)

Yea, her little brother has all 3 systems and a GBA and she was also stolen by Animal Crossing. I couldn't stand to hear about Tom Nook, or whatever his stupid name was anymore. She even got the GBA connectivity cable so she could go on the island and she was mad that there wasnt more content :lol

Any of the eyetoy games. seriously. No funky controller to get used to, nice quick, physical games. It's perfect for a girlfriend who doesn't play games much.

Mario Kart
Mario Tennis
Mario Party
Donkey Konga
Katamari Damacy
Sonic Mega Collection, just bust out the old sonic. I recommend co-op Sonic 2.

- Tetris
- Jeopardy
- Wheel of Fortune
- Smackdown
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
- Dead or Alive 3
- Puzzle Fighter
- Puyo Puyo
- Bust-A-Move
- Super Monkey Ball
