Games with side missions or extra content that are as good as if not better than the main game?

Sorry about the clunky title.

But yeah the question is what extra or Side content is a good as or better than the main games

I have a few that come to mind.

First up is

Doom and Quake MP. Just a side node that can eat up a shit load of time. Great tools were had back in the day in LAN match. When I went to sixth form in the uk I got to experience quake in LAN as well as doom. Online was also chaotic. Yes I would get my ass kicked i would fight back.

-Death Tank Zwei. It was a hidden game that you could unlock. It ended up being more enjoyable as a multiplayer party game with my mates on a Saturday.

Second would be the
- Raid Modes in Resi Revelaitons (anyone remember that meme?)
Must have spent a lot of time online on The 3DS playing raid mode with random players.
With the second raid mode have played it hell of a lot on multiplayer.

- COD zombies. Was it black ops? I remember playing it on my Wii with my Cousin fun times were had. Add in other random players. Yes it was no where near as polished as the 360 version but still great

-Overwatch mode on sniper elite 4
Great game to play locally (two switches) especially when you can call out orders in real time.

Maybe I can include zombie army trilogy as it started out as a side mode. But became its own thing ?

I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting other games from the past I've played
Maybe Mario 64DS and the included mini games.

Was never into is but the Chao garden on sonic on the Dreamcast.

Yup, totally agree...

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC was insanely good. I liked it better than the original game.

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC was also fantastic!

I love sidequests where you have to pick a flower for some granny while the world is about to be obliterated by the greatest evil we have ever seen.

Honkai Star Rail. The main content is very young rated, borderline kiddie stuff, and then you have side quests with great stories that go to very dark places, some of the best I have seen in a JRPG.

Oblivion and Skyrim would come in this, I guess.

The guild's are often just as engaging as the main narrative, hell, the dark brother hood stuff is often more interesting.

Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Oblivion come to mind.

Shadow of War is also good if you just want to hunt down warchiefs and build up your army.

There was some part in God of War Ragnarok I think where you drain or raise the water, nice big area
fight similar dragons
Only section of the game I enjoyed that actually felt like a sequel to 2018

Kaito Files for Lost Judgment was REALLY good. It's not cheap, but it definitely delivers a good story and Kaito is fun to play as a protagonist.

Quake 2's multiplayer and mods were insane.

The multiplayer in Jedi Outcast and Academy as well.

Man, that was a period where the campaign was cool, but the multiplayer surpassed in every single way, lol.

Elder Scrolls games have bigger side quests than main one.

Currently paying Outerwords 2 and it has me way off the beaten path doing stuff that can change the main story ending.

Elder Scrolls and Fallout are quite the definition of this.
Fallout 4 main story is pretty terrible, and if you only stuck to the main quest it will be a pretty bad (and short) game, but if you do side content, it's a really fun game.

... Legend of Mana?
I mean, what is the main quest and what is a side mission in this game, anyway?
sidequest the game
the main story tied with the sidequest on the macro.
this IIRC, i havent return for the game aside for just listening the music in my player few months ago
the game is exhausting if doing blindly, too time demanding IMO, just for enjoying the stories because of tons of missable quest

Kena : Bridge of Spirits

The New Game+ mode changes up the enemy positions, mobs, and bosses. Enemies turn up in places where they weren't in the first playthrough, and I think there are even new enemies to fight. The bosses, for certain, get additional phases, which makes things more interesting.

I actually thought that New Game+ was much better than the standard game..!

I feel that having good side content is better than good main game content.

I also dont like it when too much progression is locked behind the main game.

Pretty much any Mario game. If you'd stop playing 3D World after the final boss you'd miss out on half the game.
