Games you just didn't "get"...

The closest rts game I've ever gotten into would be Pikmin 2, and it's not really a rts, and I still stoped playing in the middle of the game and never finished single player.

Also, could never get into super simulation racers as the speed was so slow, and the courses, to me, so dull, from what little I played. Give me Burnout or F-Zero anyday.

Splinter Cell. I played the first few missions, didn't really get into it.

Is Chaos Theory any different? I may try that one out.

MMORPGs, Strategy RPGs, and simulation games of all genres, especially racing and basketball, baseball, and football games. I like fast-paced arcade-style game play, so I'll take NBA Street and Ridge Racer over NBA 2K/Live and Gran Turismo.

I hated sports game till I played Winning Eleven. best.sport.game.ever.

and I'm not even fan of Soccer(football)

Psychonauts. I can't understand for the life of me how this game has such a cult following, I returned it two days after I bought it

Any non-Zelda Nintendo console game this generation. For Pete's fucking sakes Nintendo, you used to be the best dev on the planet. Now you're not even in the top 5. Grow a sack.

Oh, also ICO and SotC. I got MGS2 just fine, but it was terrible.

What are some games that seemingly everyone else loves but despite you giving it a fair chance, its still beyond you how anyone could find it fun?

For me:

-Super Smash Brothers-I've tried to get into, everytime I have a debate with someone who argues SSBM deepest fighter out there(more deep than VF4) I try. But it still remains the most boring fighter I've ever played.

-Katamari Damacy-Bought it as part of GS' used game deal, and despite having to force myself NOT to put down, I pick it up every now and then thinking its me, but 15mins later I give up and throw it aside.

SSBM is the most boring fighter you've ever played? 4 good players playing SSBM is madness. I can only assume you've never played against anyone.

And yes, it is the deepest fighter ever.

Advance Wars and Nintendogs (I bought them on the same day, so might as well)
I keep trying and trying. I just don't get it. One is much too slow for my liking and the other is a freaking dog simulator.

Katamari Damacy
I was never really that good at it, I guess. I struggled to roll the damn thing.

DMC3
I think it is too hard for its own good. I felt Ninja Gaiden was hard (and so did lots of other people, apparently), but that hard was rewarding and justified. DMC3 was just controller-throwing worthy. I did like the first.

Meteos
I got good at it by simply squiggling aimlessly on the touch screen. Eh.

MGS3
I am at the last boss sequence which everyone supposedly said is fantastic. I just don't give a shit, honestly. I don't care. I just sat through basically a 40 minute cutscene followed by one of the most vague, unjustifiably challenging boss (freaking Volgin with EVA driving...I felt nauseous). I guess I didn't get into the story. LOVED the first and thought the second was a worthy successor. The third just didn't interest me, but it may be because I didn't really get into the story. In addition, I started in November and didn't go back to it until May after giving up in December, so I really forgot everything about the game.

Halo 1/2
I liked it, but I know people who worship this game. I'm not a huge fan of FPS games to begin with. I think most of them are pretty mindless. I imagine people sitting with their mouths open and drooling while playing this game.

Ridge Racer
Sorry, isamu. This is not so much a racing game as it is like 3D pong. I just bounce off the walls. I never feel like I'm in competition with anyone because I only see cars every once in a while. The cars are like placeholders. Meh. I once fell asleep while playing this on my PSP.

Burnout
The game is fun and enjoyable, but I am not crazy over it. The crashing mechanic is so overrated. When I read reviews of the first game, I thought it was literally frantic on the highway. It's not that bad. Glass doesn't shatter everywhere, either.

Kirby: Canvas Curse
I bought it because people said it is such a great use of the DS touch screen, blah blah blah. Turns out the game is not only boring, but the touch screen makes the game needlessly frustrating. Why'd Nintendo use Kirby for this, anyway? They could have started a new franchise if they really wanted to.

Katamari Damacy - way too cooky for my tastes, and the gameplay gets boring fast

Devil May Cry series - gameplay is fun graphics are awesome, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It might be the fact that it tries so hard to be cool/stylish and mostly comes across as cheesy (DMC3 intro springs to mind)

MMORPGs NOT named World of Warcraft - I don't get how anyone can play these without wanting to gouge their own eyes out

Halo 2 - The single player blows, it seems like they nerfed the assault rifle, and while the multiplayer is really good for xbox live, it still doesn't compare to the best online FPS multiplayer experiences. not by a longshot.

Keep thinking of stuff. Fire Emblem I couldn't even take an hour of. Maybe it gets better, I'll probably never know.

I didn't even last fifteen seconds into the gameplay of either GBA installment. So slow, so lifeless, so deadly dull. Even Arx Fatalis is more cheerful.

GBAs Fire Emblem are fast-paced... If anything the GC Fire Emblem is slow and that game is still fast-paced IMO.

1 hour of gameplay of FE is really nothing you didn't even scratch the surface of the series, but oh well to each his own.

I bought my brother a copy of The Sacred Stones and I've tried to play it multiple times with absolutely no success.. I can't stand its style, its totally uninteresting dialogue, or even its visuals. It just feels like a game that will drag on forever and give me absolutely nothing, and every second feels like a minute. But my brother loves it and so do a lot of other people.

Ico.

a kid with 2 horns and a stick. i felt like i am pimp.

i loved SOTC though.

also RE4.... i cant play. i love to watch, but i cant play. i cant set on the edge of screaming every second.

Any and all FPS games
srpg's (love most rpg's though)
GTA series
almost all sports games (except tennis)
Zelda: Wind Waker
Mario 64
Dark Cloud 2
Valkyrie Profile (yes I went there)

Animal Crossing

and it's not that i don't "get" it, it's just that it's the worst game ever made. but a lot of people seem to like it (somehow), so i guess it counts

Has to be MGS3. Loved the first 2, but after playing Splinter Cell i am just amazed how anyone can enjoy the game with the camera angle it has. The inability to look farther than 10 ft. in front of you without having to switch to first-person mode every 3 seconds just became archaic to me and just about unbearable to play.

Pong.

Two paddles and a ball. Um, yay? It's just so simple. I never understood why it was so popular.

same reason people love gta, it was "revolutionary" :lol

Panzer Dragoon Orta: What the fuck is the shitty story and lousy gameplay all about anyway?

GTA III/VC/SA: I want my GTA 1/2 gameplay back damnit. WTF is with this "Ima kick yo ass biatch!" experience thing anyway..

All GTAs
Splinter Cell (the first, didn't try PT or CT)
SSBM
and...
every (and I really mean every) Zelda title... tried all, didn't get into a single one.

GTA, at least 3 and the later ones: I totally hate the missions, I don't like the gameplay concept, although I like it, when games give the player many different ways to play. But I think i8t has nothing to do with gameplay when a game relys on offering the opportunity to kill innocent people by driving over them with a car or by drive by shooting oder simply bei punching them to death on street. GTA offers a wide variety of possibilitys, which is something I like, but the actual gameplay is weak imo.

Metal Gear Solid: Imo it's too much story and not enough gameplay. I'm not a big fan of playing games because of their story and so MGS doesn't offer much to me.

Spyro: Totally awefull game design. As bad as platform gaming goes. Although I'm a big fan of Jump&Runs, Spyro is just boring

Ratchet&Clank and all the other games in it's footsteps (calling itself a platformer but being boring comic Action games): I played Ratchet&Clank 1-3 and hoped for a good platformer. When I played it for quite a while, I became just bored. I don't like the level design nor do I like overall game design. The platforming elements are that poor, I'd prefer them to not be part of the game.

Oh and I don't like realistic sports games nor do I like Ego-Shooters

GTA 3+: Horrid controls, and just plain bores the shit out of me.

Metroid Prime: I played quite a bit of it, but no free look just made me crazy

Madden (post-genesis): boggles my mind that people buy this every year. 2K series kicks
Madden in the nuts!

Eternal Darkness: SR. Everyone was harping on me to play it when it came out and I finally bought it and was like "Did I get the right game?"

FF8 really did nothing for me either.

Halo 2 - After liking the first one this was a major disappointment.
ICO - I was so bored playing it.
Kingdom Hearts - I didn't really like the gameplay, though I forced my-self through it.
Dragon Quest 8 - I started out loving it, but now I don't want to go back to it.
Dark Cloud 2 - I LOVED the first so much, but could not get through this. :\
Nintendogs - Though I see why people like it, I still can't get into it.
Electroplankton - It's a very nice toy, but that's about all it is. I guess I like it as a toy, but it doesn't even have goals or anything like the other non-games. There is no incentive to play this at all.
Project Gotham Racing - Either be a racing sim. or be a arcade racer dammit.
Ratchet & Clank/Jak/Sly - Made me give up on getting a good platformer this generation.
Eternal Darkness: SR - SK is so overrated as a developer, I found this game to be so boring... but at least it had a decent story.

Beyond Good & Evil was fun, but I agree that the story wasn't all that great like some people were saying it was.

Since some of you are very vocal about your dislikes of games I love, I'm gonna do the same.

Metal Gear Solid 2. Talking heads, voice acting like in a dubbed C- movie, shitty "story" and pac man gameplay.

The entire stealth genre. It's like the anti-fun: You play as a total badass. Night vision, studly moves, great weapons.

Oh, and the goal is to sneak around all the time, killing guys from behind.

Just send the Master F'n Chief in there.

Why are you trashing a game you love? :P

Im in total shock here.

This is actually the first time I have heard someone complain about the voice acting in MGS. There are people that hate this game to bits but Im sure they will give credit to the game for the amazing voice acting. There are so few games out there that have VA that can be compared to MGS. The voice acting is just abiout perfect. How can you complain about the voice acting.

A shitty story! Its one of the best stories ever created in a videogame. It was presented badly and Konami could have made it much easier to understand. But if you use your brain a little more you will be able to understand the story and realise the brilliance. The story is incredible. There are so many amazing plot twists and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Again its didficult to find a game that has a better story than MGS2

The gameplay was fantastic. It was so much fan and there was so much that you could do. Im not even goig to bother arguing about the gameplay. There was so little wrong with it.

You really need to play more games if you think that MGS2 is bad because its one of the best games you will find this generation.

Note: I did not actually play the game much at all... making the distinction from the parts I've seen but Hayter's incredibly corny "look I'm acting!" voice acting is definately not good. Neither is the difference in presentation between cutscenes, talking head dialogue scenes (hated those in RE4 too) and actual gameplay.
I have played a lot of other games and there rarely has been one that did not hold my attention longer than MGS2.

But hey, this thread is about not "getting" it, right? ;)

I know I am a hideobot and Im proud of it. He deserves all the fans he has though. After all, all his games are fucking amazing and he did create MGS, which is the greatest franchise of all time :D

And thanks for the comment about my avatar. Kiefer is the man :D

Hayters voice acting is amazing and so is everyone elses in the MGS franchise. The voices fit perfectly for each character. Its how you would imagine they would talk. I do have to admit that the dialogue was poor. The story was truly amazing and very few games have a story that can be compared to the story in MGS2, but it was difficult to understand because of the overly compliacted dialogue and poor presentation.

They corrected that in MGS3. The story was even better and had plenty of unexpected and shocking twists which were easy to understand because Konami made a much better script and they presnted the story much better.

I know this is a thread about games that you cant get into but I get really frustarted when I see complaints about MGS2 because it is one of my favourite games ever

Could one get into mgs3 without having really played the first 2? It seems like I might enjoy that one more.

I thought it was "ok" to do it in this thread ever since somone bashed paper mario 2 so harshly on the first page. Not really complaining, I just didn't "get" MGS2 :)
