Games you remember, names you don't

I used to play a game (early-mid 90's) where it had an isometric camera view and you had to solve these floors and you were in a giant skyscraper. It had a lot of black with bright colors. There were like lasers you had to get by and dodge and I think you had a limited amount of shots for your gun to do stuff with.

Could the puzzle game be Lumines? The blocks fall down, but the bar moves to the right.

A friend told me about a certain block based puzzle for XBLA that is specially good in visual rewards (huge texts for combo, and I gess huge colorful explosions and stuff like that).

The only clue he had was that the 'gravity' makes the pieces to go to the right, instead of to go down as usual.

Do you have any idea of what game is it?

I wonder if he might be referring to Puzzle Quest - Galactix. That doesn't have 'gravity' defined in just one direction, how the blocks fall after a move depends on the direction of the move in the first place.

Ugh this is driving me crazy.

I'm trying to remember of an early 90's DOS game. The game was menu-driven, however it had nice VGA graphics and really good ambient music.

The premise was that you were in control of space vessel, you had an entire universe to explore. I vaguely remember (as I was only a young kid back then) that you could visit planets, perform surface scans on them to discover minerals/resources and collect them, which in turn allowed you to do various stuff with these resources. There were also loads of other stuff you could do in your spaceship which were very complicated so I don't remember those very well.

I totally sucked at this game and eventually I ran out of oxygen, fuel or whatever and died in space. I never learned to use the collected resources from the planets properly. I kept playing however just because of the awesome concept and atmosphere.

Please help me GAF with the title of this game, I want to play it again!

Your description make me think to one of the Star Control or Elite games.
Try check them.

It's a game that I think was on the PS1, I never played the full version but I remember my grandad had a demo disc with it on it. I think it was third person and you ran around with a fire extinguisher putting fires out, I'm not sure whether you had an axe to chop enemies or doors with. It's all very vauge but I'd love to know what it was.

I know which game you mean but I don't remember the name right now.

I only played it once but that sounds like Burning Rangers for the Saturn.

Edit: Heh, looked up videos after seeing Rosco McQueen mentioned. Wow, I remembered way wrong. I thought there was a lot more of running around putting out fires in Burning Rangers but the videos make it look more action oriented and crazy. Looks fun!

I only vaguely remember this game (just the fact that it was about a firefighter and it was on the PS1) but is it Rosco McQueen: Firefighter Extreme?

This is probably too obscure, I think it may have been just Amiga shareware but I remember a sidescrolling adventure game set in a prison camp (Looking back I think it may have even been a concentration camp). It was a pretty simple trade-em-up game that resulted in trading some object for a set of wire cutters to escape.

I'm pretty sure the main character was quite cartoony, possibly part of a number of other puzzle games. The whole concentration camp aspect makes me doubt my own 6 year old mind but also makes me even more eager to find out what it was

Hell yes I found it! It was called Iron Seed, I found it by checking the wiki page of Starflight (it is a similar game!) Thanks for the help!

I hope I didn't already ask this in here... but I remember having this game for SNES when I was younger involving cavemen. The game title was their names (i.e. _____ & ______ ), there were two of them, and I'm pretty sure it was two player. One of the bosses was a dinosaur at the end of a level.

Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja.

Two games my brother and I used to play on my grandmother's computer when we were young:

The first was a game that was on a submarine. It was all live action and you were presented with choices of phrases to say and then the script would continue based off your choice.

The other looked like a cartoon. You played as some super hero in a red costume I think. I'm pretty sure it was a point and click adventure. I remember having to catapult into a castle or something and needing to create some giant mega-toad by manipulating the environment somehow.

That could be Silent Steel.

Need help with this one GAF:

There was a superhero game (MMO, I think) that was looking for a publisher. It sort of reminded me of InFAMOUS. Someone had posted a 15 minute or so video walkthrough with the developers. Basically you can design your character's look and what powers he has. I vaguely remember something about some enemies have gas grenades and if you get caught in the gas you'd temporarily lose your powers.

This is a relatively recent game (I remember watching the video a year or so ago).

Anyone know the name of a NES game I used to play as a kid?

You could throw a grappling hook diagonally and it would stick to walls and you could climb it, you had throwing knives, a whip(i think) and big rocks/clusterbombs that could destroy walls. The cartridge I had as a kid labeled it as Indiana Jones, but I think that was wrong since I looked up all NES Indiana Jones games and it wasn't amongst them, please halp.
Come on guys ;-;

Started typing the description but then remembered as I was typing it. I remember liking this game a whole lot.

Also I remember this dreamcast game, I think it was on dreamcast, you like played as a baby and it was kind of like crash bandicoot. I don't remember liking it much but for some reason my mind will every now and again drift to this memory I have playing it as a kid.

Sounds like Arumana no Kiseki by Konami for Famicom Disk System to me. Wasn't released in the West, as far as I know. The overall vibe bore a strong resemblance to Indiana Jones.

So not Champions Online either >.>

I'm sorry I don't know MMO's well but I thought i'd try :D

I was posting in the thread about longest you ever left a game on pause and realized the game it occurred with I couldnt remember the name to save my life.

- Game was on PS1
- It played/controlled very similar to Resident Evil, but was not survival horror
- The setting was more or less sci-fi, as was the story
- Pretty sure the main dude was your typical white male, maybe trying to escape this 'place'
- For some reason I remember either using/controlling a small robot at some point to open doors or maybe do some sort of hacking to help you progress

That's about all I remember. I really enjoyed the game from start to finish and probably still have it packed away in a box in the garage somewhere, but just cant remember the name.

PC TERMINATOR game from the early-mid 90s; first-person, a lot of roaming around not doing much, very polygonal.

Played it at a friends house. It was so bizarre I couldn't believe it was a licensed game (or was it?)- I remember being interested in it, however.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

OVERBLOOD?

hmmm... looks too dark.

The game I remember had a lot of normal daytime exploration in a non-future setting. That's what made it so bizarre. I remember us playing it for like an hour with almost nothing exciting happening.

The search continues I guess... :/

The three terminator games from that era were Terminator: Future Shock, Terminator: Rampage and Terminator: Skynet.

Edit: Wikipedia just told me about "The Terminator" and "The Terminator 2029". It could possibly be "The Terminator", that seems a bit more arcade-adventurey than the later titles, which were of a more FPS bent.

I remember an old fighting game for the GB that had a cast of small toy robots and had an RPG like story mode. Some of the designs I remember include an old robot, an Alien like robot that did flying rolls similair to Blanka and stuck it tongue out, and a multiplayer only robot with tank treads that could only use one attack, a punch.

Did a quick search online and came up with Battle Crusher. Does this look right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAuBQA8yuFY

I'm looking for a game where it's laid out in a grid, like chess or checkers. You control demon/orc armies or something like that. It is turn-based. When two characters share the same square, a new screen opens up where you get to fight it out. The main game is a 3/4 view like Battle Chess, but the fight screens are top-down I believe. Probably mid-90s to late-90s game.

Edit: NM found it, it's called Dark Legions.

Not it, but thanks for mentioning searching for it. Didn't think it would come up so fast and easily. The game was Power Quest.

Checked a video, definitely see how that matches up better. I was only checking for GameBoy games, not GameBoy Color. My mistake! Also thought it odd that you wouldn't have mentioned it being an import since I only found that Japanese GameBoy game, heh. Glad you found it.

I remember a game from the NES days. There was a part in the game where you could fly a helicopter, it was first person and you could see your hands on the controls. Then there was another part where it was a top down game sorta like metal gear and you could walk around a camp or base and go into buildings, and inside it was a side scroller, and you could get into lockers and change your clothes into disguises. Only clothes I remember was a blue outfit and an orange one. Anybody know what this game is?

YES! That is it! Just looked up some screenshots and that is definitely it.
I need to find a ROM for this game now. Anyone know if it was any good?

Is this the game?

I remember a PS1 game I really liked as kid where you start on a top of a train or you can climb on it but it was at the very start of the game I'm pretty sure

then there were parts where I just remember climbing ladders... that probably sounds kind of weird but that what I really remember from that game

I think you started or got during the start of the game 2 pistols or sub machine guns...
You played as this dude with glasses if I'm not mistaken... brown hair... maybe he didn't have glasses

Does that sound familiar to anyone?
