Games you remember, names you don't

A couple of games:

a) Used to play it on what I think was a BBC Micro circa late 80s. I remember it as being the Three Little Pigs and having to avoid the Big Bad Wolf on some sort of grid... Not holding my breath on that one.

b) A space shooter like Axelay or Xenon 2 or Raptor, being it was a top down scroller. Arcade machine, played ~93/94, all I can really remember about it is that at some point a bunch of spikey things surround your ship and they either follow your ship around or you have to move inside them with their pattern or die.

Almost definitely T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger

Yes haha that was definitely it thanks!

Looking for the name of a game from the early eighties. I've played it on an Apple //C. From what I can reconstruct from my memory it was a top down rpg set in Arabia or some other exotic location. Any ideas?

So, there was this game that I played when I was just a kid (something like 4 or 5 years old, I wasn't able to read) in 1993/94, or something like it. It was for PC-Windows and it was a an action/side scroller where you where a man similar to Action Man nemesis Dr X and I remember that the first two levels was something like a jungle where you had to shoot a lot of spiders and other craps like these. Someone can help me?

bump for great interest

Alright, I have one that I need help with. It's a racing game that was in arcades, and I'm not sure if it was released outside of Japan. You could race stuff like cranes and tour buses, and received a graded drivers license at the end of a race / session that encouraged you to drive badly. I think Konami may have released it. Anyone remember the name of the game? It's been bugging me for ages now not remembering. >_<

Thrill Drive. Below is the 2nd one but there are at least 3 of them in the series.

Well I have a tough one that has bugged me for years now and seeing this thread I just realized : you're in the big leagues now man, if Gaf can't find it, nobody can !

So I was really into import gaming at the time of the nec pcengine and there is just some details I can still remember...

+ nec pc engine, hu-card
+ space setting, spaceships (don't think it had mechas but this is so old now...)
+ space shooting sequences ala wing commander
+ adventure sequences in a crude 3d environment, with anime-style portraits of the character the protagonist was speaking to
+ japanese text obviously

I didn't understood a thing about it but it was fun to play at the time.
Really hoping this isn't a case of mixed memories, but I could swear it isn't.

With this one I will be able to put my memory at rest, the trinity of old games nearly forgotten will be good.
The two others being Kuri Kinton (arcade) and Granada (genesis).
I could find one or two others but nothing of such sentimental importance.

There was a game I saw once and nowhere else at any other time in an arcade.

The game was about you being a superhero and saving women in distress from muggers in shady alleys. The game had a little punching glove you would put on your hand, and right in front of you is a cushioned pad on top of a lever that you were supposed to punch. You punched the pad and the lever would go down and then slowly back up. A couple of feet behind said pad/lever there'd be a screen with the thug you were beating up. He'd stare at you all menacingly until your punched the pad and he'd get a black eye. Punch it again he gets another black eye. You did it like five times until the thug fainted, you rescue your girl and you GTFO.

I never played it, I only watched someone play it, so I didn't see it up close. I'm pretty sure the person playing was on the first level because the enemy thug just stood there until he punched him and the "level" lasted like 10 seconds. I can only guess that in later levels the thug throws punches at you or the lever gets harder to punch or something to give more of a challenge. It IS an arcade game after all :P

Does anyone have any idea what this game was?

Hmm, looking back a few pages to help others and I... I... I think maybe that's me that has been helped !
Star Cruiser on Genesis looks awfuly familiar. It has space sequences, adventure sequences and anime portraits... Is there a comparable game on pcengine ? If not, my memories may just have mixed the original system. I owned a japanese genesis for a time...

Edit - My, I'm forgetting my manners ! If no comparable game exists on nec, I would like to express all my gratitude to Celine ! (p.65)

Sonic Blastman? Brings back memories of Gamesmaster.

Sonic Blast Man.

Amusingly, there's a SNES version... which is just a straight beat-em-up. Talk about missing the point.

Later levels simply require harder punches. I think there's one where you have to stop an oncoming vehicle (maybe a train?). Pretty sure the final level is an asteroid.

Ok i'll be impressed if anyone gets this.

2 Point and click adventure game on the Mac that I used to play as a kid. One was a fantasy setting and I really dont remember much. I remember certain scenes like an area with a waterfall and a boulder that covered where a gremlin lived. A garden with a centaur, an alley way where you'd get mugged, and a pub. I would really like to revisit this game, one of the first games ive ever played.

The second was a Wild West point and click adventure game. And errr that's bout all i remember. Goofy cartoony art-style, had a sense of humor. I also remember coming with a paperback mock pharmacy book that had all these goofy remedies and medicines for made-up medical conditions...

Have at it!

Aha!! You just made my night. Awesome. Yeah the first one is the one I'm most curious about but is the hardest to make sound distinguishable from, I'm sure, countless other fantasy point-and-clicks...

Sounds like Quest for Glory 1.

My gut's saying part of the Gobliiins series.

I recall playing this one game. It was 2d and i guess it was some kind of adventure/rpg game of some kind? The only thing i remember is that i was in a cave and had to use the magnifying glass for something (to search for a clue). Oh and i think there were gel enemies.

Kinda silly and vague description but that's all i remember. It was probably a snes game..

A game on ps2, a fighting game, where you could run around freely and it felt like a DBZ style fight.

I could be wrong, but was it destrega for ps1?

1) A game with a long top-bottom view (to the point where it looked like a world map) where you seemingly played a knight or something in a medieval world. I distinctly recall leaving a town and being attacked and killed while traveling down a road... constantly. It wasn't a JRPG or anything like that, combat happened on the map.

Probably a long shot, but is it blood omen?

I posted here earlier but didn't get any answers. It's driving me crazy... been searching for 2 hours today trying to find it.

Basically, it's a Playstation 1 (war?) strategy game where you had direct control of (only) a single unit at a time from a third person view. From what I remember, you always started a mission controlling a bike until you could create stronger units at a garage somewhere on the map. Here's some stuff that are stuck in my memory about the game;

 1. There was one mission based in London next to Big Ben.
 2. On Mission 8, you had to fight some alien-like technology for the first time (never got past this mission).
 3. There was a part of a mission where you were on the bike in a maze with lazers (random, I know, but for some reason that's one of the parts I remember about the game)

Help me please! Someone hinted Uprising X, but that's not it.

Again probably a long shot, and its been awhile since I played it so i'm probably way off base, but is it wargames for ps1?

I saw a video in a thread recently that showed off a new game, which I don't believe had found a publisher, or needed funding or something.

It was a 2D game with a great hand drawn-like art style and very fluid animation. The main character had a sword and used it for fast-paced combat.

Any help remembering what it was called. I want to watch out for it in the future.

This definitely sounds like bastion

Buddy of mine is looking for a game. Figured some of you might know what he's talking about. Here's his description:

It was a platform action game. You played a dude in a red suit that fired rings. That's more or less all I remember. The dude may have looked like something out of dragon ball. And the red suit may have been a karate gi.

sounds like atomic runner or chelnov

Could be The Legend of Princess from Konjak? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0IL66pagbA

So, there's this game that I've wanted to figure out the name to for years, but haven't been able to.

It was a multiplayer (online) PC game, and I played it back in the mid-late 1990s (probably around 1997-1998). It wasn't one I had purchased in a store, it was either a free/shareware sort of thing, or one where I had downloaded a demo (might have been a demo available on AOL, but it wasn't an AOL-based game, at least I don't believe so).

The basic idea of the game was, it was a planning/strategy game of some sort, played on a map-like thing. Each player had access to various resources of sorts. For instance (just random general examples, not actual types since I don't remember exactly, but just to get an idea), oil, materials, and a place to make widgets. There would be other resources that one would need though, and one could either buy those from other players or (possibly, don't remember) from the game. Those various resources could then be combined to produce something else, which could then be sold for a profit. So, the basic idea was to either have resources available that other players wanted to buy, or to make something out of resources that one could sell.

I know that's all pretty vague, and considering it was something which was played online, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't even exist anymore, but, it's been bothering me for years, and if I could at least figure out what it was, it would make me happy.

Hello there! I'm looking for the name of a game I played years ago, here is the info I can remember:

* Futuristic bikes
* Graphics looked like Virtua Racing (flat-shaded polygons)
* One of the stages was a stunt arena, with lots of jumps and ramps
* Another stage was I think a "combat" stage set in "New Mexico" or something like that (not sure)
* Probably released in the early nineties

Two games:

1. Sega genesis, 2 player co op game with jet planes, was a scrolling shooter, very cartoony (the planes had faces iirc).

2. A turn based strategy game for ps1 with hexagon tiles, one was a monster race of aliens, it was science fiction.

Nectaris: Military Madness?

Thanks to the Rise of the Triad annoucement I have been thinking about games from my past.

Trying to remember the name of a game which:

 • DOS/Windows 3.1 days
 • Top Down
 • Turn Based
 • Hex Map
 • WW2
 • Crude (not detailed art) Pixel Graphics
 • Pre-dates Panzer General
 • There was no base building.
 • You chose your force from points before the battle and placed them (like Total War/Shogun)
 • Worked with a mouse

Any thoughts?

I'm trying to remember what this game was called.
It was on the PS2, it starred a bunch of creepy looking stuffed animals and I THINK it was a 3rd person shooter.

What's that console game(I think PS?) where you have 2 yellow hair viking dudes and you play this Risk-type of game where you move your army around?

Challenging one: I think this might've been a small Korean game, so I REALLY don't expect to ever find the title.
A PC game. There was a reddish brown(?) haired hero and he had different level of swords lv.1~ maybe 16 or more? that gradually got stronger.
I remember early enemy was like a green slime...? For some reason I thought the title was Ryan or 라이언 in Korean... lol but nope! gg.

One of my friends has this very vague describtion of a NES title, can you guys help out?

You walk around a hit walls, all should have a different number of strokes before they broke. When they broke, a barrel would fall so you had to move to avoid getting hit by it.

Sometimes there were bombs behind the walls as well, and he thinks there were a total of 100 levels.

It doesn't sound like anything I can relate to, hope you can help him.

Maybe Boulder Dash? I don't know...

Something I remember from my childhood but since it's been 11 years or so my memory might be a bit hazy. I -think- this may have been the wheel of time but I'm not entirely sure.

Year I saw this being played by friends: 2000/2001ish
Platform: PC
What I remember: First person, character was traversing along quite a generic bland environment when either the character shapeshifts into a rat or you meet a small crying girl which transforms into a monster, or maybe both....Again, memory is a bit hazy and I have no idea why it's stuck with me for this many years. This was probably close to the beginning of the game...

If you get this, I'll mention you in a story I'm writing about it or something.

The game's hero is fat instead of skinny, and story is kind of a parody of fairytales. The hard part? I'm not sure this game even came out, as I only remember seeing it in an issue of EGM.

Around the time of the PS2, though I'm not sure it's exclusive to that platform.
