Actually incredibly wise. If people want to buy KI they will have to do so in THEIR store where they get the full profit of the game sale and don't have to give any percentage to STEAM. I think that margin alone is worth it for them by any "lost" consumers who refuse to buy anything not on STEAM.

This. Also, they want to get people hooked to their store. having exclusive games help.

What they can do is let users import Steam games into their Windows Store accounts, at least the games that are available on both storefronts. I remember Origin doing this, I imported my Crysis 2 and Sims 3 serial keys from Steam into Origin.
Double post third time this week! Argghh, apologies.

They've already confirmed you can use the Xbox app to launch Steam games. Not sure why one would want to do that though. Given the mix of friends, messaging, etc.

So are y'all expecting more QB gameplay, a cinematic trailer, or perhaps a first glance at the TV show?
Also, think we will hear about the Halo TV show?

Why on Earth would Microsoft give a percentage of their sales to Valve when they now have their own marketplace?
For more potential sales?
So should Nintendo go third party for more potential sales?

This is all about the Microsoft ecosystem.

This. MS may be just getting started with their store, but they are going to get huge number of users updating their OS to Windows 10 due to free upgrade offer and all of them someway going to use store for apps where MS can advertise games to huge user base. KI and Fable are F2P games so everyone mostly going to give a try as its free, so no need to publish their games on Steam.

I think that this Spielberg Halo thing is dead... There are no infos about this project since 2013 besides this vague "its still happening"... I dont believe that anymore.

I think there's a high chance Nadella is thinking how can first-party IP drive Windows 10 adoption, Windows stores sales, and broader usage worldwide. He's made it very clear that none of the divisions with hardware are going to be run as their own businesses any more.

I'm looking forward to cross-buy/cross-play immensely more than reading the next GAF thread tallying exclusives with some convoluted qualifiers for nothing more than console wars.

Yep, precisely. And this is exactly Microsoft's thinking...fanboys and list warriors be damned!

I personally love it. I get to own the game on both platforms and play where I choose, and people who don't own Xbox One can now jump in on some of these games if the really don't want the console yet. I get to play with my friends who are PS4 only, and people who only own an Xbox will continue to get the games as well. I really don't understand the people that want the games to be locked to Xbox One only, as a way to validate their purchase or something.
It's not so much about console wars but more about rewarding the console owner for picking up the system over a bunch of other potentially better options. As an example I think at some point they're going to have to address the problem of console folks paying for Xbox Live Gold to use multiplayer compared to PC who won't have to. Maybe with some sort of advanced tier system of Silver, Gold, and Platinum or something along those lines.

Personally the crossbuy stuff is a good feature but it's not something I'll be using anytime soon since my PC's not really built for gaming and I don't own a surface tablet. Crossplay on the other hand is a more significant feature and seems to be handled in a way that makes sense with their online titles (Gigantic, Fable Legends, Sea of Thieves, etc) and hopefully not in a way that puts one platform in an advantage over another.

I get that they're going for a broader service based model and it has a lot of attractive features for people who like convenience because I'm also one of them. However I think MS still needs to maintain a middle ground between putting all of their exclusives on PC/Windows 10 and having platform exclusives to show that they're supporting the platform as not just an attractive gateway to their eco system but also to show that the system has it's own set of advantages too.

W10 Cross-buy for all first party would be amazing.

Oh well, there's plenty of other stuff to get excited about. Thanks for the info. Sounds like they could be showing stuff later this year as well.

Yeah I mean everybody believes the game will be delayed, but they JUST announced it. They should have a roadmap or something to at least try to be out in the Spring.
Same thing with Dishonored 2, which it seems to be skipping gamescom as well (no bcd)

At the end of the day, they want to sell products, in the case of Microsoft Studios their primary goal is to sell games, if they're putting their money/investment into these ports and none of them are selling because they're not on Steam, doesn't that kind of make the venture pointless for games?

You are starting with an arbitrary statement though.

They won't sell because they are not on Steam? Let's wait and see. Not every game HAS to be on Steam, just look at Minecraft.

Scalebound better be some hot shit, else Aaron Greenberg and Ken Lobb will have made a fool of themselves with quotes like "Game of the forever" , "Horizon!!??, wait till you see Scalebound"

Scalebound is truly the wild card. Excited to see more Quantum Break and a next gen Crackdown but I honestly cant even imagine what Scalebound looks like.

Did they actually say that? Wow they really must be confident

I think MS should offer all their games across Windows 10, so they lead the way on their claim of being mobile first, cloud first.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but I feel that the prospect of a powerful, affordable, small-form Windows 10 PC optimized for gaming is awesome. Let me get all my games from Steam, Xbox, GoG, etc. on one device. Windows has the richest gaming catalog in the world, so why not showcase how Windows 10 brings that to the TV and connects the largest gaming communities.

Looking forward to seeing more QB and Scalebound.

Scalebound better be some hot shit, else Aaron Greenberg and Ken Lobb will have made a fool of themselves with quotes like "Game of the forever" , "Horizon!!??, wait till you see Scalebound"

Somehow, I doubt they actually said that...

The more we get closer to Gamescom, the more I get nervous for the Crackdown showing. Of course I'm excited to see QB and Scalebound, but they come from developers who have already proven themselves. We know next to nothing about the new Crackdown and I just hope the gameplay MS shows us blows us away. I'll be prayin'.

But dem QB facial animations and dem Scalebound dragons. *Kreygasm*

Link? I doubt actual employees of Microsoft would directly attack a game like Horizon. The "game of forever" quote makes sense, employees are excited about the product they're representing but I doubt they would bash another product.

Lobb did say that but from his voice you can tell he wasn't serious and it was more of a joke. I don't believe that Greenberg said that though.

God damn well get more Tomb Raider (hopefully) too. That game looks so damn good, most wanted of 2k15. Oh and the others :)

Can't wait to see Quantum Break and Crackdown!

Interested in Scalebound, but I'm hoping it's more than just another character-action game.

Really looking forward to seeing Crackdown. It's a franchise that never really "took off" the way it should have. I'm glad Microsoft is giving it another chance since I had a lot of fun with the first two games.

Heard it from some of the fans that were invited (xbox fanfest) to E3 by Microsoft (either TIC podcast or xboxuncut)
