(Gamespot) 31 Minutes of Avowed Live Gameplay Demo | gamescom 2024

Karen with the nose ring has all the enthusiasm of a rock. Why are all these Gamescom presenters women who seem to be reading every single reaction to everything shown off notes?

This entire format is dull as fuck.
she speaks with the voice of someone who watches others 'play' games. she's much too mature to actually 'play' games herself...

I thought the Outer Worlds looked shite and when I tried it thought it was ok for a non first person fan.

Getting the same vibe here . Indy has the jank thing going on too, it's why they are showing more cutscenes than gameplay.

I'm not sure what's the point of all those electricity, fire, etc roadblocks. They are not puzzles if it tells you exactly what you need, and it seems like they were wanted to do Breath of the Wild, but then thought people will be too stupid to figure it out by themselves.

In terms of level design blocking a path for the sake of using some ability isn't very creative. Maybe it's early on.
Its a skill check.

If you are not a mage, you will miss out on some of that stuff.

Just like if you don't have enough points in persuasion, you will fail some quest solutions. Etc.

This is just a reminder that New Vegas Obsidian it's not the same that developed this Game. I never expected great graphics from an Obsidian Game but great narrarive and lore , have not seen any unique , special that makes You Say "wow".

Obsidian is living of their New Vegas legacy but it's over. So this Game Will be fine if You do no have other open world to play fantasy RPG problem for Obsidian is there a plenty of better options now a new comming.

Wtf were they thinking making a game in the Pillars of Eternity setting. Poe 2 flopped, nobody cares about it and looking at the footage it has no appeal or any qualities to make it stand out, just some generic fantasy game

Normally I don't put much faith in the posts that complain about capture footage...but this is really bad.

No way the folks running the booths and media interactions didn't have a unit that you could capture a direct feed from, this just makes the game look awful. I know it looks good, I have seen their RTX video showing off the game...stop being just awful.

Meh. Doubt I'll play it. Too much HUD and clashing colours. I like my RPGs with more Skyrim grey and brown. 30 fps doesnt help either.

At around the 14 min mark, the character casts some ugly low res green cloud attack.

Aquire Zenimax for 8 bil, trash Tango Gameworks, put out Starfield/Redfall, and then try to hype people for whatever this is

How do you ruin Tango, Bethesda, Arkane, and Obsidian? GOAT tier devs puting out C-tier trash.

I think by not interfering directly. Maybe it's time for Microsoft to interfere.

Doubt it. Microsoft ruined Rare, and the others mentioned. My guess is because they did interfere. Keep in mind Spencer was the one responsible for Rare during 2000s. It seems to me he is interfering.

Seems kinda contrived, also you can unlock those in other ways than being a mage like they said.

I wouldn't call this a good game design personally. It also seemed at least from the footage it's everywhere, so how long until it gets annoying to basically stop and open an area like that every few minutes.

Welp. That killed any interested I had...
  • Camera is zoomed at an awkward angle
  • Dialogue seems stiff and lacking genuine character
  • UI looks unwelcoming from the menus to even the dialogue quest (why put it on the side?)
  • Combat UI looks super amateur and combat itself looks clunky.
  • Besides some of the color palette, the graphics really don't seem all that great.
  • Just looks overall boring.
I'd rather play a properly done 3rd person CRPG if I were gonna play this kind of game.

This is early in game. Doubt you will have access to these many granades at the beginning. Its probably just for the demo.

Obsidian always puts skill checks that are dedicated to different classes. I remember watching a video of Chris Avellone describing this, No matter which class you choose, they will shine under certain conditions.

Well, is it like Metroid where you'd comeback and unlock a new area entirely or just for chests etc, which may become redudent as the game goes on and you get more powerful items.

Just seems like a roadblock rather than something that creates a new gameplay opportunity.

Not like Metroid.

If you have high dexterity, your acrobatics would be higher. You will be able to climb higher ledges and will have access to different set of chests.

Its rpg and you won't be able to do everything in one run.

Like the range combat. Definitely going for a mage build myself. Keeping my expectations in check though as this doesn't really hype me up.

I know opinions are mixed on Starfield, and Redfall was shit. But If you think HiFi Rush, Pentiment and Grounded are 'C-tier trash', gaming might not be the right hobby for you.

Knitting, perhaps ?

Cut a .gif from this video. (low-quality due to free account)

A glimpse of next-gen melee combat. Or as Destin put it, "Fantastic!"

Looks meh, uness someone likes tons of HUD, colours and stodgy attacks.

At the 14 min mark fighting the spiders, it was made worse with the two devs hyping it up like it's the greatest battle ever. And the shittiest green cloud attack spell. Practically PS2 era graphics.

As the character stabbed the spider, suddenly the guy goes "ooooh" like that random stab is best attack ever, while the whole time already slashing and spelling it.

Looks stiff and stilted when in dialogue. Combat looks meh. Graphics could be better.
Day 1 baby.
The jank is exactly what makes games like these so endearing.

Unfortunately, this clip kind of turned me off a bit from the game. I was initially really interested in it and will still probably play on Gamepass, but everything is so static and stiff. The graphical style is okay for me, but the gameplay and animations feel Skyrim tier. Feels really dated.

Looks okay to me. I haven't played an medieval fantasy RPG in ages, and I'm hoping this one is decent. I played Outer Worlds and was underwhelmed, so I'm not expecting a masterpiece. A lot will be riding on the story, characters, and dialog. Nothing in this clip stood out as particularly good in that area, but you can't get much of a feel for that in a short clip.
