The graphics in the game have seen a considerable amount of polish and optimization since the title's shaky debut which has resulted in improvements all around. The character models for Fox and company, while still featuring a modest amount of detail, look sharp and animate well. The same holds true for the team's vehicles which animate nicely while morphing their shape to suit your needs in the game. The environments are detailed locales that sport some very nice touches, such as the rainbows visible by a waterfall or simply the interactive elements you'll trigger by accidentally missing a target and hitting something in the background. The game manages to maintain its framerate despite the lush look it has. The visuals gain an extra layer of glaze to them thanks to the game's support of progressive scan.

The audio is solid although it does come off a bit plain in spots. Fox and company sport a generous amount of dynamic voice that reflects their situation during the game. The assorted affects for the weapon's fire and spacecraft are good but lack some punch. The soundtrack for the game is a strong collection of tunes that really seems to accompany the action in the level well.

Based on our look at the game, Star Fox: Assault looks to have avoided the potential pitfalls it appeared to be poised for following its initial showing. The gameplay has been tightened up, the graphics have certainly been smoothed out, and, most importantly, the game got fun. Fans of Starfox will certainly want to check the game out when it ships next month.

Why can't Nintendo give the voice treatment to Metroid and Zelda when they always do it for Star Fox? Echoes would've been even better with some brilliant voice acting.

Sounds like a low 80% score. I am a fan, so i guess that's good enough.

Probably. Atleast the game has been polished from last time.

I'm surprised Nintendo is making such a showing at CES. I think it's helping, as they're actually getting some positive media attention. Time to show Zelda.

considering that this is the same team that did much of Ace Combat V, the graphics are a little dissapointing, but if the gameplay holds up and the campaign is a decent 15-20 hours long, I'll definitely pick it up.

The only thing I can think of are the logs. Samus wouldn't talk, and the Luminoth do. I'd love to see Zelda get it, but done *PERFECTLY* as in, hire the casting guys for whoever did the KOTOR games.

Bah! I am a fan and that isn't good enough. Star Fox and SF64 were among my favorite games on their respective systems. It pained me to see what happened to Fox in SFA.

Forget about voices, why can't Nintendo give Star Fox the same care in development they give Metroid and Zelda? Was giving this to Namco a mistake?

Agreed. They already have the voice of the suit in the game, so why not have it read the logs back to you? Next gen, hopefully.

I don't think "giving it to Namco" was a mistake as much as "forcing them to include an unnecessary multiplayer mode" and "probably not giving them enough money" was.

I mean, again, these are the people who made AC2, 4, and 5.

SF64 was my favourite N64 game - it had amazing gameplay, great sound and fantastic graphics. This is more than a little disappointing; Nintendo should have developed the proper SF64 sequel themselves.

How do we get so negative suddenly? Sure it might not be better than SF64, but Gamespot just reported that the game is looking and play better right now than before.

Voice acting is overrated for example paper mario is really great without voice acting and teh delivery of the lines play off better in my head than anything a voice actor can muster up.

Who did you have in mind for Samus to chat with? :)

Nintendo didn't develop Star Fox 64 in-house. It was developed by Argonaut with Nintendo's input.

SF64 was a very beautiful game - nothing on PC or another console came close at the time. I also worry about the gameplay and the storytelling; SF64 was just beautifully crafted.
