Gamespy Mercenaries Review

5/5

Basically, if you're a fan of destroying everything you see, Mercenaries is the game for you. However, it offers much more than that. Playing the factions against each other requires a bit of strategy, as does completing the missions. I can't remember the last time I played a game in which I wondered whether something could be done, and nine times out of ten it actually could be, whether it's calling in an airstrike on a lone soldier or jacking a helicopter from the sky. Blowing stuff has never been this fun, or this satisfying.

I like the commericals, they are aimed towards people who like watching other people die and the people who blow things up 'cause it's cool.

Definitley a game I'll be picking up this year.

Sounds awesome. Mine at launch.

I wanted a good GTA-like game since GTA3 (VC and SA didn't do it for me). Hopefully this will fill the void.

... SA didn't do it? WTF. Mercenaries isn't anything like GTA btw.

Since the game seems to be about destruction...does it make use of the havok engine?

If I remember the developer commentary film I watched correctly, yes it does.

Great news!! I've been spoiled by the Havok engine lately...it just feels stale to go back to a non-Havok game with lots of stuff blowing up and bodies flying around. Mercenaries is now a game I need to buy.

What the fuck?! Two titles in a row that I hype that involve the Havok engine!

Havok has its claws in me, I guess...heh.
