Gamestop: We don't have enough to fill pre-orders!

LOL. Yeah it's their fault there aren't enough (or adequate) supply.

It is their fault when employees abuse their positions to get the PS3s customers already paid some money for. At least on planet Earth. That they're kindly "asking" their employees not to buy them for themselves before you get to the store with your pre-order slip in hand means nothing; GameStop/EB probably would have to threaten to fire those who try it if they actually want to stop their customers.

Boo, I'm last in line.

Would it help me if I paid in full? I heard something from a clerk about special treatment for orders paid in full when I preordered but didn't care cause I think it's silly to hand over that much money so far in advance.

I was worried for a moment that Wii Day was in trouble, but it's just the PS3... Crisis averted... Sony(or Gamestop) lied, preorders died :lol

i was right there with ya, title needs a changin!

Color me surprised! After Sony cut their Japan shipments, some people were claiming that it would result in MORE systems for the NA American launch, but some of us more level headed folks, sort of figured they would be cutting shipments for NA too.

Now I feel really sorry for Sony. They had enough of a tough fight as it was, and I was expecting a really good battle after Christmas in NPD....but this OBVIOUSLY means they're having more manufacturing problems than what they've let out. It's almost unfair to them.

Now how will this affect the European launch? Will they push it back, launch short there too, or will they get their production problems fixed in enough time?

just got the call from Gamestop asking if i was paying it off in full.
said I was and they said they would have it there....keeping my fingers crossed

mine is paid off in full. i wonder if that'll help. i wouldn't take an employee's informal word for it, though -- some gamestop douche tried to get me to pay off my 360 preorder last year and wouldn't admit that it had no bearing on my chances until i really pressed him.

MOTHER****ER!!!!!!!! If I don't get my ps3 I'm gonna bust into gamestop like the hulk and hit the magazine rack for massive damage!

SHouldn't you choose Sony? You know its not the retailers fault, they did everything they could to make sure 360 didn't happen again but Sony basically assured that it did.

Yeah, it's really unlikely. There's a little sheet that prints out, showing the order the reservations were taken. They'll probably go off of that.

And thank God for that. Can't wait to pick my Wii up on Saturday. :D

I just got off the phone with my gamestop and they have no idea what's going to be happening.
The best I got out of 'em was we will know how many we are getting for sure the day before launch once we get the units in the store. And apparantly the calls to people who won't make first shipment all come from the central office and not from the stores themselves.

What a ****ing retarded opperation these jokers are running, someone please explain to me how they are still in business.

The same thing will probably happen to Europe. Shortage of systems for launch

No that doesn't help. I paid off my 360 in full last July, a full 4 months before the system was released and I still got pushed.

You're joking, right? TRU is at the bottom of the major retailers, especially when it comes to Sony. They'll be the first to have shipments cut, they're just not important enough to know about it yet.

When will jetsetmario learn...

Gamestop/EB don't actually make consoles. They have no control over this. And seeing as how they are second or third in importance for this launch (behind BB + maybe Walmart) don't expect anyone else to get their promised shipments either.

Thanks for the enlightening post. I appreciate your chivalry in coming to GS/EB's defense.

The problem is that GS/EB took preorders for what their entire expected allocation was, whereas TRU took pre-orders for a percentage of their allocation.

GS/EB has proven many times over that they don't give a shit about the customer. They( and by "they" I mean the company not the counter jockeys) have continuously used shady tactics to increase revenues. I'm just sayin'....

So does that mean TRU will have systems available for walk-ins on Friday?

If it just me, or is Gamestop starting to get the short end of the stick?

They're the low man on the totem pole it seems when it comes to allocations.

Last year, when they pushed back my 360 pre-order that was paid in full, months in advance, I called the district manager to complain. I asked him how is it that a company that bills itself as the largest specialty video games retailer in the U.S., is getting about 1/10th of what every Wal-Mart and Best Buy are getting. Of course, he had no answer for me. It was apparent then that EB/Gamestop's retail buyers have absolutely no stroke with the manufacturers of these systems.

My guess as to why can be summed up in two words. "Used Games".

Well, I'm mr. #16 at a 16 PS3 allocation place... I guess I'm the first one to go. (even though mine's been paid off.)

Oh well. :(

At least I will have my Wii and 360 to keep me company over the holidays, and by the look of the launch games, I don't think I'll be missing much.. :(

I was #1 goddamnit! NUMBER ****ING 1!!! IF some some snobby ass employee takes my PS3, I will go GEARS on his ass and chainsaw him in FOUR PIECES.

It's funny because it's true.

BB is having a minimum of 26 per store. That means they're getting an insane amount across the chain when you consider that 26 is the least amount any store will get. Larger BB stores will have probably 2-3 times that at least.

Uhm when was that confirmed because you do realize this means that probably everyone's shipments got cut. Not just EB/GS...right?

wow i feel kinda lucky i think. I was the first to pre-order on oct 10th. I called EB back after they called me at work just to confirm and they said i was all set. I said i'll come on thursday to pay it in full and i plan to arrive on friday at 5 or 6am if need be to make sure i get my system.

Damn this is wild.

Alrighty just came back from my store, with one topic related piece of info, one personal piece of info, and one funny as shit my store related info.

First off the manager claims they were told in the conference call that most stores are only getting shorted 2-3 consoles. Take that as you will.

Secondly I'm #6! Woohoo!

Thirdly, it's obvious that this short white manager is intimidated by his tall black employee. The employee confirmed that I was #6 and he was like... oh hell no I'm lower on the list and I'm opening that day, ain't no damn way I'm not getting a console. His manager just kinda stood there with this frozen smile look on his face. Priceless.

Wow, with some of you guys, if your eyesight was like your thinking, you couldn't see past your own eyelashes.

I just called my GS. I was 8 of 12 when I pre-ordered, but now they say they're getting 16. Something tells me the employee I spoke to was stupid. I'll call back in a few hours to ask again...

Called my GS back, talked to the same guy... he hadn't heard the news yet.

It's a good thing I have no plans to purchase any PS3 games until late 2007 and held off on Blu-Ray movie purchases until I watched TN on Blu-Ray and King Kong on HD for a comparison on my TV.

Still sucks to be missing out on day one though.
DrDogg said:
:lol Called a second GS in my area and the guy said he knew nothing of the shortage. He did say (repeatedly) that the website and the store are two different things... I shall verbally assault him tomorrow.
Maybe you should just, you know, wait until they call you instead of being annoying.

Westonian said:
Just got off the phone with my GS. They are getting 6 and I'm number four. He said that I would definitely be getting a system.

*Ginormous sigh of relief.*

By that accounting then, GameStop is getting 75% of their pre-orders filled.
Worst. Math. Ever.

Damn this sucks...but I kind of feel better about NOT being able to get a preorder at GS on the 10th...I waited and waited and then had to go to another GS(going from 4th in line to like 20 something), and then getting shut out. Had I went through that and actually got my preorder and couldn't get it i'd be insanely pissed.

Ouch. Good luck you guys.

It's so amazing that even though Japan got a fall smaller launch allocation, things there were infinitely more organized.

Looks like I'm f**ked twice due to PS3 pre-order.

Once by BB, and Twice by GS... for grand price of $29.99!!!

Damn, I feel so violated and cheap now. :(

I'm keeping my hope alive till I do get final notification from GS, but.. seriously, this blows.

I just called my local EB in Los Angeles -- they are going to be on a conference call in 5 minutes and they will know what they are going to do after that. This is real, folks!

Westonian said:
8 original pre-orders. Six actual systems. 6/8 = .75.

Yeah, I completely fail at math.
See, you didn't mention they were originally expecting 8. I figured you were basing your percentage off your place in line to total systems.
