This is bad TBH. Like super bad.

So bad that it makes the early adopters look like guinea pigs.

But it could be resolved if an launch day update repairs it. Still it's like the early days of Wii U and its super mega slow UI.
 
Some of y'all need to get off the internet for a second. I'm not excited that there are some hardware concerns floating around, but this is not a 1:1 problem yet and seems like a fairly easy fix (either software update for sensitivity increase or warranty replacement of Joycons). Everyone take a breather, go away from the computer, relax.
 
To my knowledge they're not using Bluetooth at all when connected as evidenced by the fact that turning on airplane mode will disable the joycon when not directly attached to the switch (though this can be changed in the settings)

Wow, thats really bad if so. I have to believe something else is the underlying cause here. How could this not be seen in testing?

Actually, I find this hard to believe. Lets take 1-2 Switch. You have games all about moving the joycon randomly. Theres no way a simple line of sight issue wouldnt be detected there.

This is what happens when you rush a console to launch and forget to include enough Pikmin to transfer the data from your controllers. A patch should hopefully be able to deliver the needed Pikmin, but will there be enough for everyone?

Happy to have decided to chill until Black Friday with my Switch purchase. The Xbox 360 might be my final launch day console. Enjoy!

Hope a solution will present itself fast because I do look forward to the Switch and I hope it'll be a success.
 
What retailer are you buying from that wouldn't let you return a purchase for any reason within at least a week? I mean I get it's a hassle and you'd rather avoid it completely, but if it's not working well for you and Nintendo doesn't have an immediate plan, return it.

I bought from amazon. I'm just afraid this is the kind of issue where the retailer can just go "well, it does work if you have your switch like 1 meter away..." and refuse to refund it.

I think I'll contact amazon to see what their policy would be in this scenario.
 
If it's a hardware issue I would think that Nintendo will fix the problem then offer a free service where you can send your joycons in and they'll replace them with a pair that actually function.

What about consumers that are outside USA, Japan or Europe. Also, I don't think retailers will be happy with all units' returns affecting sales.

If Matt's surprised I could only imagine what NCL is doing atm. If this a software issue and not a hardware issue, I expect it to be handled before the weekend is through.
 
This makes me really glad I bought a pro controller. I was wondering whether it'd be worth it, but now this solidifies it as nearly necessary.

are we positive the pro controller does not use the same bluetooth tech? i am with you, but it may use the same tech, even if connected via usb for all we know

It's signal related. The only question is whether or not Nintendo can issue a firmware update to boost it.

Likely. It'll probably come at a slight cost in battery life but considering the reported 3-hour battery life, I think it's a fair sacrifice to make.
 
The battery is literally as good as it can possibly be given the size of the system.

Switch has issues. That ain't one of them.

They're not getting graded on their effort, saying it's the best they could due with the resources available is just trying to sweep under the rug the fact that the battery life is perceived as being too short.

Sorry, I'm bringing this over from another thread, but I do think this line of reasoning isn't really assuaging people's grievance of the battery life.
 
People (press and fans alike) have played these things for dozens of hours at Nintendo Switch events with no problems mind you and the moment game journalists get them in their own homes in fact to give previews and reviews, Joy-cons are acting up. Something is up.

That makes no sense. You are grading them on a scale that doesn't exist. What could they have done to make the battery life better that doesn't involve inventing new battery technology?
