Gaming ragers

I don't think I've ever broken anything, or thrown anything for that matter. Don't want to have to replace things. I do, however, curse and swear at nearly every game I play. To the point where some people have asked me why I continue to play if I'm not having fun. My response is generally "What do you mean? I am having plenty of fun."

I feel obligated to make a point to deny the butt thing as well.

Last time I remember raging REALLY hard was a 1v1 match in Halo 2.

I CANNOT. FUCKING. STAND. How they always devolve into Hide-and-Seek once somebody has a lead.

I just remember cursing the dude out really loudly. Called him a "fucking cunthole" iirc.

I just don't get this behavior. First I find it ridiculously immature, and second it's just a game. When it stops being fun, stop playing for a bit, go do something else and relax. Breaking things over a game? That tells me there are larger issues lurking.

I have witnessed some crazy meltdowns though, and in the "spirit" of the thread I will share. My buddy punched square through 1" drywall after losing like three straight fights in Super Punch Out, we went out for a walk after that. Same guy also threw the entire game of Heroquest clear across the room whbe his brother kept picking on him in the game. Granted he was like 10 or 11 then.

I played a lot of MTG and I have witnessed some epic meltdowns and rage quits in that game. One local player thought he had played himself out of the money at a 500 person plus tourney, took his $600 deck through it in the trash, flipped off about a half dozen folks and walked out. We retrieved his property for him, and the next day informed him that if he would have stuck around he would have realized he top 16d and made a nice check for the day.

I have been sitting across from folks who think they are so superior at the game that they have no mechanism to handle defeat. I especially enjoyed out playing them. I never took competitive play serious and it is what helped me do well in events. When I cared I always played poorly. I never raged though I usuaal sulked for a couple of hours then got over it.
I have seen folks spam all kinds of crap after losing on Magic Online too. I just don't get the hyper competitiveness in these things. Especially when it means very little in the long run like MP COD matches

I try to avoid this by pretending that I'm super calm about everything, but sometimes it's just too much. So I simply threw my copy of Dark Souls in the garbage because I couldn't beat Ornstein and Smough for 10-11 hours. When I calmed down, I took it out and beat them on my very first try.

Worst I've ever done is cut up my Call of Duty games after a sequence of very bad matches. I rationalized it by saying that I spent too much time playing the games (which I did), but I could have just sold them.

I've pretty much done this. Black Ops 2 drove me crazy, especially early on. I threw the case a couple of times to the point where it wouldn't close anymore and eventually took the disc and bent it in half and trashed it... Then I ended up buying the game again a few months later. I realized the same thing was happening again and I sold it that time. I'm pretty much done with CoD and most multiplayer games in general. I've realized that I really hate losing in MP games, especially shooters, so I pretty much avoid them now. Way less stress, and for the most part, I don't miss it.

Beyond some swearing to myself, nothing really ever gets me mad in games.

I think Halo 2 in its glory days led to some intense matches, and in one game I had a tirade that got quoted in the UK OXM magazine under their (quote of the week for XBL)after I got rocked with the BR + PP combo for the entire match. That was my only moment of raging online or offline.

Broke a Duke once, throwing it into my wardrobe. I think it was in response to a PGR game. I was actually aiming for a pile of clothes, but I missed and hit the shelf instead.

That would be cool, but sadly it was just a 2600 joystick, which looked like this:

Get mad enough and you can snap that sucker clean off.

You could buy the replacement internal sticks for these from the local electronics shop at the time, so snappage wouldn't be too bad.

Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3) and trying to get the Freeflow Gold Trophy made me go berserk. AFAIK you had to get a perfect score in all challenges and whenever you got hit only once your combo got interrupted which made a perfect score impossible. In the "easier" challenges I managed to get a perfect score but the more difficult challenges with more stages and more difficult opponents.... screw them.

:D

Glad to be of assistance in this thread!

One day, I'll actually try and summarize everything but this is the "current" list (it's pretty old at this point):

World of Warcraft
PVP-server, Alterac Mountains... fucking Undead kept following me into this cave and eventually killed me. I punched my laptop that I had gotten free from school so fiercely - I destroyed it. Also: lots of keyboards, and a Steelseries mousepad

My Ice-mat, two keyboards, a mouse, my PC-table

Tekken 4
Destroyed a phat PS2, the Tekken Tag Tournament disc, two Dual Shock 2-controller

Punched the screen of the (first) Gameboy and destroyed it

God Hand
A Dual Shock 2 and a DS3-controller.

This is a post I made in a thread several years ago on this topic...

I was playing StarFox 64 and trying to get medals for all the levels. I was on a level called Sector Z that easily the most difficult one to medal. In order to get enough points for the medal you are required to blow up 6 missiles. Blowing up the missiles wasn't a problem, but keeping your AI squad mates from blowing them up was.

I had flown around and destroyed 5 of the 6 missiles. I'm moving the screen from left to right frantically trying to find the last one. I see it in the distance and race towards it...I get close enough to shoot and begin nailing it. Right before it explodes an AI character named Katt flies in and delivers the final 1 or 2 shots to blow it up. I got no credit.

I wouldn't have been so angry if it weren't for the fact that in order to medal the levels you had to start from the beginning of the game so there was no reload try again. I was so blind with rage I turned and did a spinning back kick to my dresser. One of the drawers literally split in half like I was kicking a board at a fucking karate tournament. My brother was on the bed and I'll never forgot the horrified look on his face when I did it lol.

My dad came running in the room and asked wtf happened to the drawer. I lied like hell and told him I tripped and fell "knee first" into it. There is no way in hell he believed it, but he couldn't prove otherwise because my brother went with the story.

For those curious here's the level I'm talking about.

I was too poor growing up to break anything videogame related. My parents sure as hell wouldn't have bought my brothers and I a replacement. Thus, self-control was paramount.

I do yell at the TV sometimes though. and I will (gently) turn off the console when the game ceases to be fun because of repeated deaths or something.

Usually when a game get frustrating I just sweat profusely which is weird as I don't even really sweat when I exercise. The furthest I've gone that could be classed is rage is just a quick thump of my desk every now a then during particularly frustrating moments in Dota but otherwise I'm glad to say I've never broken anything out of gamer rage.

However, I've been present when other people have raged and it's not a pretty sight. Definitely a cause of second hand embarrassment for me.

Yeah, never broke anything, but once i punched my own leg and got a bruise, as a teen, fighting Alma in the first 3d Ninja Gaiden (not Black).

I still rage somewhat sometimes, but now i limit myself at swearing, and it's all very controlled, i do it because it kinda feels good, not because i genuinely lose my shit.
Like, if there are other people around, i can keep my composure, lol.

I broke roughly 4 or 5 controllers playing various Call of Duty games on the 360. Since then I've learned to chill out. I'll still cuss out loud and yell occasionally but I'm able to contain the rage much more effectively nowadays. When I start feeling angry, I try to just chill out and laugh at the absurdity of whatever is making me feel that way. That or just stop playing and do something else for a while.

I don't rage much but I do cause a TON of rage:

I get a lot of "u suck cock" insults, though asked if I suck dog dick was nice:

This kid turned into the hulk or something...kept saying I make him so angry.

You can however hear my friend rage here, and by rage I mean off the walls screaming, cussing, pounding, hyperventilating rage. Many of my friends mute him because he just gets so fucking bad with his rage:

The worst I did was roughly pull off my over-ear headphones and throw them into the couch cushion I was sitting on. It happened after failing a certain goal in Scram Kitty for the umpteenth time. It broke a piece of the plastic on them and it was the quickest ever transition from anger to a soft whimper. "No, why did I do that...my beautiful headphones :'("

I bought Die Hard Arcade for the Sega Saturn back in 1997 and beat it inside of three hours. Really liked the game though, so I decided to keep at it, and dedicate myself to beating it on a single life. Spent a weekend playing it religiously and got dangerously obsessive about it.

Long story short, after about 10 failed attempts, I managed to get to the final boss and beat him down to a sliver of health when I totally butterfingered the controller and dropped it on the floor. Needless to say, I died.

Exploding with rage, I gave my Saturn an overhand right which popped the lid and sent the disc helicoptering out of the console and on to my basement's concrete floor. I then stomped the disc about 52 times, but was unable to break it. The Saturn still works like a charm, but as a result of my rage, you kind of have to jimmy the hatch a little to get it open.

I still have the disc and the game to remind me of that horrible day. I have never mistreated a game since.

don't rage

don't get mad

there's no point in getting mad, especially at something like this

something goes wrong i just sigh and move on

ive been super pissed after some cs/dota matches but nothing particularly frustrating. If a game annoys me too much I just lower the difficulty or stop playing it.

I did however once manage to trash talk my friend so much while playing fifa (he was better only way I could win was to get into his head) that he quit playing fifa completely.

EDIT: Anyone else notice how valve has started putting anti rage suggestions whole loading dota. Eg . its only a game or everyone makes mistakes etc etc

I had a friend smash is C64 joystick with a hammer when I beat him in the gridiron game 4th and Inches by kicking a field goal from around 45 yards out to win by one point (the clock ran out while the ball was in motion).

Same guy also picked up and smashed the dining room table once after a stressful game. It was one of those ones with the ends that extend to make the table longer. He was paying that off for awhile. :D

Only once, as far as I can remember. I think it was last year, and I forget what game it was. It was single-player, though. I was on a laptop, and I pressed a key so hard that I blue-screened. I don't think I realized that it was possible, and I've been more careful since.

I was at a friend's house when he nearly cut his thumb off raging over a match of lol. He was warwick and nobody would follow up with his ganks. He's destroyed countless monitors, tvs, keyboards and controllers. Keyboards are fun to watch get twisted, the keys fly off like popcorn.

As for myself? Nothing. Thankfully. :D

I used to 3-4 years back. Mainly during multiplayer games. And I hated it. My online buddies hated it. About 2 years ago, I stopped multiplayer on consoles and built a gaming PC. Multiplayer gaming has been MUCH better for me, because there is much less asshole people trash talking, being racist, homophobic, etc. I feel like I can enjoy myself more. It's also the reason I typically dont use my mic anymore. I'd rather not communicate mainly because of assholes online.

I seriously think it was starting to affect my health as well.

Nah. I get very annoyed at games sometimes, but I don't rage. It's more constant moaning/venting over the game.

Certain genres would agitate me more than others. Fighters for example were by far the worst for it.

I swear a lot about people being cheap when I'm losing bad but its really just cause i'm sucking.. I think I punched the pillow on my couch once after being sniped from across the map by the same guy like 10 times in a row :/

When I was a kid my mom washed my mouth out with soap because I through ever swear word at my brother when he kept beating me in Street Fighter.

I'm pretty chill 99.9% of the time.

I've broken numerous controllers for many systems over many generations of consoles. NES, SNES, N64, PlayStation.

I once kicked the disc tray off of a PS2 because it kept skipping and freezing during ESPN NFL 2K5. NES carts were always a good throw, nice flat shape and pointed ends made for some epic crashing noises and holes in the wall. I shattered an N64 controller into pieces because of War Gods (that game is shit).

I haven't raged like that in many years though. Now I just shut the game off and walk away in tears.

Vocally and as much as some might not believe never break the gear that is too much money down the drain. Loud and proud get it out and get it over with.

Went through a handful
plus a few
of DS3's last gen...its always online sports games. Mainly NHL. Tried just yelling, or hitting a pillow but that wouldn't suffice. Thankfully i'm over it now. I just realize how much money I wasted and i'm done with that.

I rage, I break things sometimes. I've tried to chill out. Edited post.
My friend's little brother once broke his original xbox that he got for xmas only days later when he ripped the disc tray out of it.

Battletoads for NES when I was a kid. Got really good at it though, but alot of controllers went flying before that point.

It was just too hard to break NES controllers. They were built to withstand a tank shell.
