So after reading the Gantz manga (one of my current favorites) for a while now and being totally disappointed by the anime's first season with all the edits they made (they crammed near 20 chapters of manga into the second episode!!), I had hoped that the supposed "uncut" DVDs would be better. Lo and behold, upon viewing of the first two DVD episodes, we find that not only are they just uncut, THEY'RE COMPLETELY REMADE!
The new, uncut DVDs of Gantz are not only uncensored, but they actually went and redid the episodes entirely! Every scene from the manga so far has made it back into the anime. In fact, there's so much new footage that the second episode (DVD version), in it's 25 minute run, ends before the second episode (TV version) even gets to the eyecatch. It's like they crammed scenes from two entire episodes into one episode for the TV airing. Granted this will probably make it a longer episode count, but it's all for the better as Gantz is a great manga that deserves a great anime.
If you read the Gantz manga and were disappointed by the anime, go now and check out the DVDs. If you haven't read Gantz but are interested in seeing the anime, now is officially the time to do so.
On a side note, the second season began airing about 3 weeks ago and is airing completely uncut.
