In my dream world, all men in Brazil are gay.

I know! it's seriously insane in here, the only problem really is that people tend to be a little shallow, because the culture of having a great body is so widespread, you can see people jogging at 1:00 am, they are completely obsessed.

And although is quite open as opposed to other southamerican countries, the normal latino "machismo" culture is also prevalent everywhere, so I can't just ask someone out.

Prefer someone like MMA fighter Ricardo Arona:

I saw at least 10 guys on the beach just like that today.

Probably all straight.

Hey, I have a question for you: I read that Brazillian men dont consider themselves gay unless they bottom for a guy. Has something to do with culture. Is this true?

Wasn't that also the case with the Greek/Roman people?

And if that is true about Brazilian culture... SunsetAirplane.jpeg

I have no idea! I have to ask a friend of mine, but I don't think so, gay people tend to be open, there's even a gay section at the Ipanema beach, and now that you made me think about it I should hang out over there more heh. But yeah you can see couples holding hands in lots of places, even ads focused for lgtb people, an I mean huge ads in the middle of the street. I guess what you mentioned might be possible in the favelas though.

Indeed. Am I supposed to be seeing something?

I asked in the boy age thread but apparently it died so I might as well ask this here.

so, "gaydar", how the hell to develop one? I've been living in Rio de Janeiro for 4 months so I know I should have been much more lucky, but still I have no freaking clue, I'm sure there might be some pointers or something, besides the obvious "go to gay bar" which I've done already, but well I want more than bar hookups, I'm talking about things like work, acquaintances, etc, I know most of you are american but there has to be some common ground culturally. Any help would be really appreciated.
I'm sure it's like everything, really. You should probably try to make some friends. Friends usually lead you to relationships or become more than friendships in themselves.

Go Tasmania!
THE Tasmanian Parliament is set to become the first in Australia to vote in favour of same-sex marriage after Premier Lara Giddings indicated she would support a Greens motion on the issue.

Greens leader Nick McKim will today table a motion in support of marriage equality and calling on the Federal Government to reform marriage laws, the Herald Sun reported.

He says he will push state legislation if Canberra does not act by the end of the year. Ms Giddings said last night the Labor Party would support Mr McKim's motion.

"The Tasmanian Labor Party supports the principle of same-sex marriage, on the basis that it provides equality for all," she said.

"We will be considering Mr McKim's motion over the coming days and we want to ensure that the language is strong, so as to send a clear message that we are prepared to see reform in this area."

The announcement came as it was revealed a majority of Tasmanians supported changes to the law to allow same-sex marriage.

The EMRS poll of 1000 adults found 59 per cent agreed that gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to marry, with 35 per cent disagreeing and 6 per cent unsure.

Support for law changes was strongest among women, young people, those on higher incomes and those living in the state's south.

The survey's release coincides with a push by the Tasmanian Greens for the State Parliament to pass a motion in support of same-sex marriage.

Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian rights Group spokesman Rodney Croome said those opposing law reform were in the minority.

Liberal leader Will Hodgman said he was happy for his party members to vote according to their consciences on the issue. But he believed Parliament faced more important issues.

What makes it amazing is that until 1997 it was illegal to have homosexual sex in the state.

Hey, you guys are much more progressive than the US, in most southern states it was illegal until 2003 and even then only because the highest court ordered it.

Woo, hollow, non-binding gestures of support from this nation's least significant state parliament. I feel so proud.

More progressive on average perhaps, but we have our fair share of backwards thinking. Neither the Prime Minister nor the opposition leader (and his party) have even entertained the idea of marriage reform, keeping to a hardline conservative stance. We certainly won't be seeing greater progress than this for some years yet.

Hey, if I was living in Tasmania I'd feel pretty proud, even with no actual legislation. Beats the rest of the country.

Big up to Tasmania.

Doesn't mean much in the bigger picture until everyone else gets on board, but that shouldn't take anything away from this. Gotta start somewhere.
I know I shouldn't be so cynical... but on state matters, I can be little else.

Tasmania is only pro gay marriage because they're inbred and hope the slippery slope is real.

...

Anyway, just read through last night's Q&A transcript featuring Jim Wallace. I almost managed to hold back the nausea, but then Tony Jones' final words were 'Janet Albrechtsen'. It was too much :(

Finding a guy that is remotely attractive is damn near impossible, specially ones that like video games and specially ones that like jRPG's.

Being 34 don't help either. :P

Where do you live again?

Last night at the Gears of War 3 midnight launch I saw this really attractive guy...not hot, but attractive, if that makes sense. He was playing four player horde mode, and I eventually worked up the confidence to go up next to him to play too. I was sort of hiding behind him...at a distance...peeking in at the screen from in between him and his friend. Eventually they noticed me and were all "You can come closer! We don't bite!" He looked so hot when he said that. *swoon* So I came closer to the screen that I was playing on, which was situated diagonally from where I had been standing. I was trying to get in on the fun trash-talk-at-the-monsters thing they had going on, but they kept making juvenile gay jokes.

:/

Er-that's how most X-box Live people are. Doesn't make them gay bashers in general, given "straight acting" etc. etc. etc.

I figured that most of those people tried to be a bit more tactful IRL. Plus, Gears has a diverse audience, so I didn't just assume that they would be like that.

Granger Danger said:
You mean dudes, bros, and dudebros? Quite diverse indeed.

Yeah. But, I mean, at the midnight launch there were a lot of young women and several little girls whose mothers were buying them copies of the game. When I played Gears online, I interacted with all sorts of people, including dudebros. I know that is just my experience and not indicative of the whole, but for some reason I just assumed.

I'm really that naive, aren't I? :(

That's the age gay men retire and no one looks at them anymore. On a serious note what do you mean "attractive" what are you looking for? Twink? Bear? Daddy? metrosexual?
