And I have a huge head that makes my shoulders look narrow, so I always think of them as an unattractive trait.

Maaan. How do people keep finding these awesome classes? My sister took a course on soundtracks and scores in film, a friend of mine took a class where they read Watchmen and watched The Twilight Zone, and you've got your Hitchcock class...I need to read course descriptions more closely.

Man, that sounds cool. (get it, sounds?) After taking the two required writing classes for college there is essentially a "Fuck it, whatever class " or focal point where a prof teaches about....anything and everything. It is really rad but I can't take anymore. I DO have to take some art classes, I definitely want to take more motion picture classes
I also have a big head and ears like dumbo so hats aren't for me.

All of the really specific classes are what I'm looking forward to most in college. What's a gay and lesbian writing course? Is it teaching how to write but only for gays? Are your writing skills that bad guys and girls?

This post makes me absurdly happy for you, in many, many ways. I can remember a time where you would have been chagrined to even go to the club, let alone have a good time. Of course, this is me knowing your GAF persona, which may not always be accurate since I'm reading text and don't actually know you.
All I'm going to say is that people on Grindr could definitely use a course in grammar and language skills.
I need to take two genre writing classes, so gay and lesbian fiction falls into that category along with classes on science fiction, romance novels, and the like. One of the reasons I want to take the class is because I don't think of gay fiction as really being its own genre with its own set of tropes, so I'm interested in how the class is presented and taught.

I've always made a point of behaving no differently online than in person, so you know me better than you think!
Going out to a club (especially a gay club, tbh) still makes me quite apprehensive, but my friends pulled me out onto the floor and said, "you will dance." It took a little while, but I loosened up and had a lot of fun even with just one drink in me, heh. There may or may not have been grinding and post-dancing ass grabs with a guy, too.
My mindset has certainly shifted this year. I mean, this was just back in January. We'd been to the exact same club the night before, and I had rarely felt more alienated and uncomfortable.
sweet. did you just go out with friends or did you go to the pax gaymer meetup too, which i'm guessing wasn't far away from where you went.

But you're such a good looking guy, with great style. Gaydom would gobble you up whole.
This summer I resolved to read The Catcher in the Rye, 2666, and The Left Hand of Darkness--as they've all been sitting on my bookshelf for quite some time now--and I made a list of fifty or so movies I wanted to watch (things like The Godfather and Lawrence of Arabia) because they were complete holes in my film knowledge. As it turned out, what I actually read was a ton of comic books and the only movies I really ended up seeing this summer was Nolan's Batman trilogy. I didn't increase my cultural awareness like I had hoped, but the things I did waste my time on were fun and I bought a Vita and the world's most disappointing Yakuza game, so I'll give it a 6.4/10.
I recently came across the Summer Goals thread. I wish I had found it when summer started, rather than now at the end.
This is me. I was at a gay yoga class and found it incredibly awkward. I have some friends who are waaaaaay too excited to take me to a gay club. I doubt it's really my scene so we'll see. With any luck they'll get busy with work.

That sucks :-( the year isn't over for you yet though! I enroled on a college course so I can go onto University next year, and I've been taking driving lessons all summer, gonna take my test next week. My dad is getting me a car as soon as I pass and my gran is paying for my first years insurance.
This year has been an absoloute disaster romantically though *sigh*

Hah, that's kind of true. The whole "scene" doesn't gel with my... perspective? Worldview? I dunno, mostly it's that I don't fit into the stereotypes and I'm sort of happy about it. At the same time, this obviously imposes limitations on the types of experiences I'll end up having, but it's a trade-off I can live with.

I managed to get friends from three separate groups together in one place, surprisingly enough! Sai-kun and I met up after he was finished at a seeeecret Microsoft thing, then my girliefriend came along after she was off work, and we got to the club at the same time as the third group.

I failed my first test because when there was a stop sign, I stopped on the white line. Also the lady was a jerk. She pointed straight and said, take a right after the train tracks. Then halfway through the intersection she yelled at me saying "I said take a right BEFORE the intersection."

Oh dear, maybe you should have complained? Probably her word against yours but maybe she had a history of that. I'm dreading getting a tester/instructor that doesn't like me. I'm hoping he's gay and this new found lookism comes into function
I hear you, I meant to read The City & The City, along with The Odyssey but that didn't pan out. Same with seeing movies, although I'm going to watch The Shining tonight with any luck. I joined the GAF book club for The Brothers Karamazov, so I'm hoping I can commit to that while the workload for school isn't too bad.

Thanks. Sorry to hear your summer has been kind of crappy, hopefully things look up in the fall. Godfather trilogy is another I'm embarrassed to say I haven't yet seen, need to correct that.
Same, lunch and I had this conversation a while back- I wish low-key gay bars or pubs were more prominent because the club scene isn't really for me. More of a talker/hang out...er, than anything else.
True I'm feeling on and off optimistic about what the rest of the year holds. Awesome that you're getting a car fresh off your new license, best of luck to you. I have yet to get my G1 (or learner's permit in American) but my crutch/excuse is that living in the city my bases are covered with public transit.

Been hunting for jobs since the year started and no luck on the summer either, Havent done anything memorable and I can't work on my 3D models for my portfolio since my computer is crap. (need a new one badly)
Otherwise fine with my BF spending most of the days watching movies and playing games.
oh yah. i totally don't fit into the scene at all, but you can learn how to have fun while there. there are some limitations as to the experiences, but you'll get surprised a lot too. almost everyone likes to just have fun and let loose from time to time, and many of times i've been surprised by some of the interactions that happen and with whom while i'm there with friends and stuff. you meet all walks of life there on occasion and like you and i, they aren't all scenesters
i think in reality there are very few scenesters, despite the initial appearances. i've met a few, but i don't really hang out with them or anything.
good on you for going out and having fun, though

Godfather 1 and 2 are movies that whenever they are on TV I just have to watch them; especially part 2.
Ive never seen the third as I've heard its a horrible film but I really should just watch it anyways.
EDIT: On topic of shoulders. I don't really like narrow shoulders on a dude. But some guys it can work... JGL looks just fine

I liked him in Inception, 500 Days of Summer, and The Dark Knight Rises, but he's not an actor I'd explicitly watch a movie for.
Totally agree. I don't mind him at all but there's something about him that isn't especially grabbing as someone I must see. I think Looper will be awesome, but I'd be seeing it either way for the premise more so than for who's involved.

Yeah, I have a list of actors whose movies I'll watch just because they're in them (I saw The Dark Knight Rises for Anne Hathaway), but Joseph Gordon-Levitt isn't an intersting enough actor to warrant it.
Nooo. The trailer didn't do anything for me, and the idea that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could ever become somebody as cool as Bruce Willis is such a ridiculous idea that I already can't get behind the film.
Now that I think of it, I don't believe an actor has ever made me want to see a movie just because they're in it. I always put premise and story before the cast, so if I happen to like anyone who's in it that's just a bonus.
I didn't actually see the trailer as I wanted to go in completely blank, but it sounded like a crazy science fiction thriller (which the Lost fan in me can completely get behind).
Anne Hathaway for The Dark Knight Rises and Rachel Getting Married (and soon Les Mierables as well) and Lee Pace for The Fall are actually the only two actors I can think of off the top of my head. I want to see Skyfall despite not having seen the previous two Bond movies for Javier Bardem and I'm looking forward to The Great Gatsby because I've liked Carey Mulligan since I saw her in Blink, but they aren't the sole reason I want to see those movies.
