GBA: need a game

I won't be at home for 1-2 weeks and I can't take a console with me. I've bought a silver GBA SP and Golden Sun 2. It's cool so far, but I need something else. Give me some quick recommendations, please. Not limited to a genre, but the game should be quite easy fun and have a load of content or replay value. 'Cause I don't want to pay about 30-35€ (that's what GBA games cost here :\) for a damn short experience.

Kururin? It's the game with those chickens in rotating sticks, right? I played it and it was sweet, but I can't imagine it having big content.
Advance Wars 2, how long do I need to finish it? Also, what's superior - FFTA or Fire Emblem and why? I dig the FFTA's design.

Buy Baldur's gate 1 and 2 for PC, they will work on the computer you are using now!

if you have a laptop it's the best portable ever!

If I'd have a laptop I wouldn't ask for GBA games here ;). Besides, I have BG1+2 and they are both awesome.
Mario & Luigi seems to be freaking good, but I'm not sure about the story...I dig serious RPG plots.
How is Mario Kart longterm?

Sorry just trying to whore the BG games as much as I can, for such great RPGs they are under appreciated.
Anyway a few good GBA/GBC games

Super Mario Bros deluxe (GBC) – It’s the original Mario bros with lost levels and heaps of extras and fresh ways to play the levels.

Zelda ALTTP – It’s a port, if you played it on the snes give it a miss if you haven’t BUY THIS!

Pokemon Ruby/leaf green etc.. – Teh shame! Still a great rpg games

Anyway Mario platfomrer,

Mario & Luigi's story is absolutely hilarious, if you dig "serious" plots this will be a refreshing break. First time through it took me around 26 hours on the game clock to beat, but I leave my GBA SP on all the time so I think realistically it would be more around 20 hours. Perfect length. However, once I finished it I started a new file straight away, it's THAT fun. :)

edit: whoops you said Mario Kart long term, thought that said M&L :P

Mario Kart is well... Mario Kart, it's fun! There's an impressive 40 tracks in the GBA version and it does take a while to "complete" them all

Even if you like RPGs, if you only buy one other game, and your first is an RPG, then I'd get something different. You can't always guarantee you'll be in an RPG mood.

So, how about Made in Wario? Lots of crazy little games and a lot of fun. Plenty of replayability to unlock all the games.

Alternatively Advance Wars (1 or 2) is still a slowish game, but doesn't have much of a story,so you can dip into it as you like.

Being in Europe, how about taking advantage of the blue moon and getting Minish Cap?

OMG, so many games man.. you'll have a hard time choosing

the Mario's
Fire Emblem
Mario & Luigi
Advanced Wars 1 & 2
the Pokemons
Wario Ware
Final Fantasy Tactics

Mario & Luigi
Super Mario Bros. 3 (A.K.A. Super Mario Advance 4)

The BG games are not underappreciated, unless you have a bizarre definition of appreciation. From Bioware's webpage:

In total Baldur's Gate I, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal have sold nearly five million units world-wide with sales still continuing

Mario & Luigi for lots of replay value? I disagree. Great game, but ithere's no point in playing it more than once, and it's not a relatively lengthy game.

I'd say...

Wario Ware
Pokemon
Mario platformers (if you can handle ports)
Mario Kart or Konami Krazy Racers
Street Figher Alpha 3
Castlevania COTM
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Fire Emblem
Tactics Ogre
Chu Chu Rocket
Sonic Advance 1-3
Sonic Pinball Party
Zelda:LTTP (If you can stand ports)
FFI+II
Klonoa: Empire of Dreams
Advance Wars 1 and 2

Wario Ware Inc.
Fire Emblem
Kuru Kuru Kurin (my favorite GBA game; easy, fun gameplay, lots of replay value)
Harvest Moon: FoMT (for longevity)
Napoleon (hands down best strategy game for the GBA, the tutorials are so well done you forget you dont read Japanese)

Sword of Mana is a "serious" RPG. It's a remake of final fantasy adventures, and I think SoM is very underrated. Yes it has some flaws, but it's great fun. Recommended.

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls

Lots of replay value there. Not only do you have two games, but FF1's class/job should keep you entertained making different parties. Tired of the Black Mage, White Mage, Ninja and Warrior combo? Make a deadly band of Ninjas to take the world by storm.

Fire Emblem is a much better game than FFTA.

Otherwise, consider/read about:

AW2
Castlevania: AoS
Astroboy
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Wario Ware

Advance Guardian Heroes is already getting hard to find.

Better buy it soon, if you haven't already.
Or just avoid it altogether.

Shit, now I'm sold. I was just here to make a recommendation.

Depending on what you're looking for. FE is a much more hardcore game, and if you're not willing to live with that, it will infuriate you. FFTA is a lot easier, has more interesting features, but has no balance and very little challenge to it (depending on exactly how you play it). Both games are worthwhile in their own ways, and you should probably expect to pick up both.

I haven't even mentioned the awesome music yet. This ranks up there with Castlevania: Circle of the Moon in terms of audio.

Well, I don't think FFTA is worth much from any angle, unless you're a hardcore FF fan.

And I'm a little puzzled at the: "FE is a much more hardcore game, and if you're not willing to live with that, it will infuriate you."

You'll get angry if you can't live with it being hardcore? Huh? It's not even that difficult a game. At least not until the latter missions, but by then you should have a very good grasp of the mechanics.

That's fair enough, but I think that puts you in a minority. Gamerankings has it at just shy of 90% average score, and I know a lot of people who have really enjoyed it. Like I said, the more hardcore players are going to prefer Fire Emblem, most people are probably going to prefer the godly Advance Wars games, but it's not flat out bad by most standards. If that's what you want, try getting hold of a copy of Onimusha Tactics.

The 'dead is dead' mechanic irritates some people to the point of stopping playing it, and the need to micromanage weapons because of the limited number of uses is something that some people don't get on well with either. Maybe it's not that difficult for an SRPG veteran, but it's harder than most.

*boggle* Ok.

I always considered the deaths as the only source of difficulty; a different extension of 'Mission Failed'. Otherwise, if that wasn't implemented, you'd practically never lose.

don't get Mario and Luigi. I might be the only one that thinks this, but there are far better games for the GBA than M&L.

Go for:
Advance Wars
FF Tactics Advance
Fire Emblem
Metroid games
Castlevania games.

Far better games? Maybe. Far better traditional RPGs? I can't think of one.

You've played it already? Is it out? Where'd you get it?
