Gears of War 4 |OT| Still Epic

Unless I missed it there is STILL no join in progress HORDE mode option. Hate hate hate getting halfway done and 2-3 people leave for whatever reason and im screwed because I have no friends currently online and nobody can join so then I basically lose 1-2 hours of progress.
 
I've been playing Gears since day one and it's been one of my multiplayer games of choice for the last near 11 years. Not that that validates my opinion or anything, just that I've been around this franchise for some time.

I dropped Gears 4 when Battlefield came out and have been playing Overwatch since. Recently went back to Gears. And it's still the chaotic fun gears I know and love.

The recent update addresses some great things and makes some long coming necessary changes.

However.

This is the first gears game I haven't bought DLC/season pass for. As a strictly KOTH player the season pass adds no value to me. I feel like removing maps from the rotation is a huge mistake. Variety of maps was always a huge bonus of playing Gears when all DLC had dropped. The awesomeness of getting maps for free is soured a little for me with the implication that maps won't be in KOTH all the time. Annoying.

Also as a huge Run The Jewels fan, having the airdrop was great news! Untill I seen the price tag for it. $20 dollars for the pack is fucking scandalous. Huge disappointment. I would have happily stuck some more hours into the game to grind for credits (hardly a grind when the game is so fun) to unlock the pack. With no option to spend credits for the RTJ packs that was annoying.

I see TC making genuine efforts to fix the issues and I genuinely appreciate that. I'll still play this game on and off for years to come I'm sure.

I really do hope they offer the RTJ and UIR packs for credits in the near future. This new wave of skins is damn bear pointless to someone who gets nothing out of weapon skins and re skins of characters I don't play in MP.

You're getting there TC. Now just let me get rhe RTJ and UIR packs for credits and keep this whole thing uniform. By all means charge for the esports packs, but let us earn everything else in game if you do have to go the microtransactions route.

And add some fucking locust for the love of God. Let me rock my usual Anthony Carmine and Sniper locust skins like I have been doing the past 10 years.

Should there be? They knew what they were doing, they wanted to appeal to two different crowds. eSports and those who like to play competitively like that the guns aren't as strong.

And then those more casual players who are just getting into the game will have a better time in a mode where all the guns are really strong (easier to kill, less aiming to do). I see what they're going for so not sure if they will address it. I would think that maybe several months down the line they'd just keep one, but for now I'm ok with it.
 
I really wish they would stop putting KotH in the Developer Playlist until they actually fix the spawn system. The fact that it's still so atrocious is flat out embarrassing.

Also doesn't help Blood Drive and Clocktower are so tired at this point. There are a dozen other maps that could be brought back but no let's keep doing the same 3-4 maps over and over and over.

they need to put 1 new 1 old, because if they put news, people will say, where are the fan favorites?!!!, and if they put 2 olds people say "where are the new maps?!!" so yeah 1 new 1 old is the better approach
 
It's not even the fact that they're remakes of old maps that bothers me. It's just always the same ones. Gridlock, Checkout, Blood Drive, Clocktower.

Can't we revisit some other maps? There are plenty to choose from. I was never a huge fan of Drydock but at least it's a map that hasn't been done to death.

I think they just wanted to play it safe, as it is their first game as a studio. I dont mind that personally. When studios think they know best, you get maps like in Halo4 and 5 and are mostly trash. Playing it safe is always a good bet.

I'm totally fine with bringing any of the old maps back right now. as it stands, the original TC maps are forgettable at best. I almost want them to go back to Epic and have them create the maps at this point.

One weekend only. I have like 100 credits to my name.

So on the off chance I'll have time to earn 2000 credits this weekend, I get to spin a fucking slot machine and maybe get a new swarm skin? No way I'm paying $5 for one of these RNG packs either. No new skins for me because I won't pay up or have the time to grind a silly amount of credits in a silly short amount of time. No heads up that this was happening either to save up credits.

TC fuck off with this shit.
 
Anything that adds some variety to the Swarm is a good thing. Still, texture swaps cant compare to adding characters like Myrrah, Kantus and Theron.

I'm finally back, baby! It's been quite some time since I played Gears of War 3; maybe ~5 years?!

I bought a digital copy of Gears of War 4 during a sale for $30 weeeeeeks ago and only now was I ready to lay my hands on it.

The campaign is pretty good so far. I think that I'm at the start of Act 4?
(Horde stuff in the campaign, why? The first time, okay, I thought it was a tutorial, but the second time: pls not more of this during the story)

I played my first Versus match. I have no clue about all the modes. Social Quick? That's casual? Core... Competitive... What's the difference? (I didn't take a look at the OT yet; maybe that's in there)

Nevermind. I chose to play a Core Team Deathmatch. First round K/D of 3/6, we lost, and I'm thinking "damn, did I get that bad?". K/D after second round 14/9: Jesus Christ! The adrenaline of destroying everyone with the Gnasher. Holy ****. I had a killingspree of ~8 kills; killed 3 enemies during 4 seconds. Those poor guys didn't expect me to go on such a rampage after the first round. We won round 2, lost round 3 and the whole match, but I had fun and it reminded me of the good old days playing Gears of War 3.

(Gotta finish this quickly, so I can put into my 2016 goty list)

Edit: Important question: Which mode(Core, Competitive) should I play that will guarantee both teams are full of players from start to finish?

I bought 6 of those Onyx Gold packs. The Swarm characters look good, but I'll watch a youtube vid of the characters I dont have yet, to decide whether I buy any more.
 
Pretty certain at this point that the Developer Playlist does not use servers. Easily the worst performance I've had in this game.

Of course the game being absolutely littered with Mexicans doesn't help.

I hear you, but at the end of the day all the maps are essentially variants of a few core designs. The maps that keep coming back are the ones that are the best twists on these core designs, so I'd rather play those than sub-optimal maps just for something different to look at. Unlike other arena shooters or class based shooters map design options are severely limited due to the game play mechanics.
 
Anyone up for some Horde Mode? Looking to get a group together to go through all 50 waves.

I have one friend confirmed and another maybe so we have some open spots. Starting tonight at 8pm central time. Teamwork and communication highly preferred. We're a fun bunch. :D

Ah, so it's not just me. It was going to be my first time jumping into MP, too, lol.

Also, I know the campaign is old news for 99% of you all, but any tips on the boss at the end of act 4? I just gave it another attempt after a month or so hiatus and am getting rekd.
 
I got a Zombie Minh and I don't feel bad for scrapping it and getting an Old Marcus instead.

+The "brainzzzz" sound is stupid and annoying.

It should eventually update. I had the same thing and after 10 or so minutes it finally updated to the right total.

Same with experience as well. I was getting next to nothing after the match but after backing out I had actually gained two levels.
 
The Gear Pack Gods have been on my side recently.

I got the the male UIR Elite I wanted a few hours before the cards were taken down (I could only afford three packs in total with my credits).

The first Onyx Gold Swarm pack I opened gave me the legendary Elite adrone variant - again, the one I wanted.

The Season 2 airdrop wasn't as good to me, but the scrap I got allowed me to buy the Gear Corpse.


When these time sensitive packs drop, I finally feel like I have a purpose, a reason to play. Outside of that I feel like I'm going through the motions.

I still love playing, despite the game's numerous problems, but I wish The Coalition could do more to incentivise switching the game on.
 
Is there a known issue with crashing on Xbox One? I've been watching my brother try to get in a game and everytime it shows the level splash screen it crashes. Happened last night and he went to try it again it said he was banned for 15 minutes, like what the hell? Fast forward to right now and it just happened again, it crashes every damn time now. It's happened at least six times now.

Meant to reply to this.

Both core and competitive modes should ensure teams are full of players before starting a match. Weapons are stronger in core than in competitive, which has been balanced for, you guessed it, the competitive community.

Both options enforce quit penalties and do not have bot backfilling - if someone leaves, teams will remain uneven.

Social is where you'll find uneven teams (as people drop in and out), bots and no quit penalties.
