Gears Ultimate Beta Access

Bullets coming from the center of the screen.... This is going to take some getting used to. Shotgun game is definitely off because of this.
 
No wall cancel is a disappointment, it's what made Gears 2 and 3 feel better in terms of movements. Gears 1 was too sticky due to this and the fact that your character would go to cover the moment you were near something even if you were at an angle and not directing the stick towards the cover.
 
Shotgun spread is narrower

1) This causes direct hits to do massive damage, since the bullets are much more concentrated and have a higher likelihood of making contact. This causes frequently one/ two shot downs or kills

2) You may be missing shots because the entire bullet spread is far smaller than the reticle. It's very misleading

These two things are causing what people percieve as the Gnasher being over powered or inconsistent

Trying to load into my first multiplayer match and it's been stuck on a loading screen for five minutes. :lol
 
Turned on my xbox this morning for the 1st time in few days and had two codes for gears beta. (Plus some 360 games ready to install) it plays pretty good but definitely not as flawless as the halo 5 beta.
I dint register for nothing.

how did u get the 360 games ready to install?, was it in a message?, how does this 360 backward compat work digitally?
 
No message or email. I'll be really gutted if I don't get to play this.

For those who played. Is there a private session option with bots? Also how does the 60 FPS feel? Been a long time since I played the PC version.

edit: just learned that the party system isn't enabled for the beta. Seems like this just wasn't ready to be released, but MS wanted to say "and you can play it today" for e3.

Excitement is kind of deflated.

Yup, this and going back to having shots in the middle of the screen instead of from the gun makes it kind of hard to play for me atm. I guess I'll adapt, but I definitely prefer how Gears 3 plays.

I swear sometimes I clearly was hitting the other player and shit just vanished and I was like wdf. Now I see with ur second point. I can deal with 2 shot downs but 1 shot downs should never happen Imo. 2 or more for sure. Fuck 1 shot downs.

Not everything is gears1 sadly, I wanna see what would happen if they went back to the random spread, especially with how lag free the game is now. (for me at least)

Tbh other then that the game is great. It really feels fun to play and it really does remind me of gow1. This is deff what I'm gonna be playing for a long time when it comes out.
 
Anyone willing to help me capture footage of Gears 1 on Xbox 360? Working on an article comparing the two but there are literally only three games being played on 360 right now and none of them are playing Gridlock.

they sent me a code last night that i couldnt redeem till this morning and they also sent the same code again at 7am
 
They're sending codes this morning/this afternoon according to the forums - no codes for people who registered on the website have been sent yet.
 
Why on Earth wouldn't they at least send the people who have the Seriously achievement a code? Why even have a code in the first place?

yeah most likely why it's all done via download and activation key instead of being open on the storefront.
 
Uh this is not very fun to play, it's ok....the movement feels so clunky as it has all the issues of Gears 1.

1) no slide cancel

2) No movement while DBNO

3) No stopping power

4) if you are taking cover against the wall and want to jump/dive to the side by pressing A+left stick, then you can't do that anymore (unless you are at the corner). This was a huge game changer for me in Gears 2 and the lack of it is what made Gears 1 slow and clunky and what makes this feel the same.

5) It was very usual to see people use the added speed from slide to their advantage while chasing or running away. People would directed themselves to a cover and immediately leave as soon as they get to cover before the animation even finishes. You can't do that here, you have to wait for the slide to cover animation to completely finish before you can leave it.

It's slow and feels like a jankfest after playing Gears2/3. These changes were introduced in the sequels for a reason because they were improvements and were objectively better.


I would have liked it if it had the same weapon mechanic and everything from Gears 1 but a movement system from 3. As it stands it has omni directional evade from Gears 3 but is wasted here due to the slow, clunky and sticky movement.

Damn, this sounds discouraging.

Hopefully they make some last minute changes and address some of these since they're pretty significant issues.

I actually prefer the deliberate chunkiness to Gears 1 movement. I just couldn't stand the host advantage, crabwalking and map glitching.

Perhaps it's just me but getting a headshot is considerably easier with the Long shot right now.

It was not deliberate at all in Gears 1 though as that was the best they could do at that time (cover based games were a new thing back then), but it's deliberate here and it has no logical reason to exist here apart from just cause because it has implemented things from later games like omnidirectional evade and TDM.
