Gears Ultimate Beta Access

Also bullets coming from the centre of the screen and not from the actual gun is seriously messing me up in shotgun duels. I don't know how I ever did well with it.

So, is it a pure GoW1 port, Gaf? No mechanical improvements from 2/3 brought over? If so, that seems quite silly to me. I'd have bought a One for a complete and mechanically up-to-date Gears MP suite, no question.

But this is Gears1 and not Gears3. Those who want gameplay like in Gears2/3 can wait for the xbox one equivalent of these games.

This explanation will never stop will it? No matter how baseless it is.
This is not Gears 1, this is Gears Ultimate Edition.

How do you explain them removing active reload yesterday then? It means they are trying new combinations and when they do that it becomes a different game.

This is not Gears 1 anymore, it has TDM, the gnasher spread is smaller, the sniper scope works very very slow, the hit feedback is simply not there, has spotting and character glow for far off models.

AR starts just no! But how do you break the rolling shotgun fests in this game if everyone has them? Unless that was what they planned?

In the sequels this was fixed with stopping power and the balance was great. However they decided to just scrap it again, I know thats how it was in gears 1 but you would think after how fair it made the sequels why would they jut not add it into this remaster. People say it's a "pure" gears experience but to me that was the worst part of the original, shotgunners getting no penalty for running head first at someone with a lancer 50 ft away.

Anything that impedes, halts, slows or discourages movement is typically a bad thing. Stopping power was imposed to thwart Gnasher usage, which is already in itself a hard weapon to use. Gears is a close quarters game, hence why the Gnasher is the favored weapon.

The Retro is a brain dead solution to a non existent problem. It lowered the skill gap and allowed people to easily kill Gnasher users will little to no effort.

Call me a Gears 1 eltist if you want. But I think Gears 1 fans have earned the right to be that way. We've dealt with so much bullshit and unwanted changes through out the years. It's about damn time we got the game we've all wanted since 2006. We've had to "adapt" to so much nonsense that was designed to make the game more accessible, but really just alienated people and did more harm than good.

Gears has returned to its former glory after nine long years. It's time to celebrate and pop bottles. Haters can go back to Gears 3, Halo, or CoD. It's our time to shine again.
It's not. It's a balancing mechanic that you see in place in other games, TF2 had it with Natasha when it was still quite a balanced game. I am a Gears 1 fan but Gears 1 is a dated game with dated mechanics, it was their first shot at these games and hence it obviously shows how much worse it is.

Gears games have always changed so it's not just you Gears 1 fans who have to go through stuff, Gears 2 when it came out was a very different game from Gears 2 after the last title update and the various changes in between. Gears 3 changed things up from Gears 2 so fans of Gears 2 may not have likes Gears 3.

This notion that only Gears 1 fans suffered and hence deserve is so pointless.

Feels good to play some gears multiplayer again though i don't really like the canals map. Graphics aren't bad either. I prefer Gears 2 multiplayer over gears one though.

The lancer is not very powerful either. Its a shame really. Its as smooth as my two little kids bottoms and has local matchmaking which I adore. But the thought of nothing more than gnasher multiplayer is making reconsider buying it.

Give me gears 3, no retro lancer and the shottys as pick ups and I would be over the moon.

Come at me gears 1 lovers

I see what your saying, but from a design point of view, the maps are balanced around GoW 1. Any changes like stopping power could ruin the flow of the game on those maps. For me, the old maps didn't have the same magic on GoW 3 because of this.

The only thing I always thought was debatable in GoW 1 was the active sniper downing.

GoW is the gnasher.

A Gears 1 remaster that plays like Gears 1? Yeah, that's silly.

I can't fucking believe the lot of you who wants a Gears 1 remaster that plays like Gears 3. And I say that as someone who prefers Gears 3 to 1.

I just feel that if they're open to adding TDM, spotting and player glow at a distance then why not make it a 'best of' multiplayer instead of "gnashers of war". I get the single player is gears one but I think the multiplayer shouldn't take away vast improvements to the multiplayer that made it an even playing field. These changes didn't make it ultra casual they nullified a one way to play game.

However I sense the community split on this and it's difficult to please both groups.

Adding features like new game modes and spotting is one thing, changing the game would be something completely different (and definitely make a lot of people angry).

It's gears 1 at 60 frames with remastered character models... which look identical.

I think it should have been a Gears 1 Aniversary multiplayer, revised and balanced off to be it's own thing, not the stick wall weak ass lancer version we all played 9 years ago.

*edit* as said above there's a few changes which IMO ruin the game, hip fire spread from the gnasher is as tight as hard aim now, there's less gore blood spray from everything and they added in gears 3 spotting and team colour glow when the player is far away from you.

Yeah definitely, I would be amazed to see if they could bridge the gap without creating a dichotomy in the community with different playlists. To me there was very little skill/fun to people wallcamping and teamshooting. It took very little skill and coordination. Whereas gnasher battles are possibly the most fun, unique and skillful experiences I have ever had in multiplayer gaming. There is simply nothing else like it.

It was especially upsetting to me to run up to people and just be frozen almost to a standstill by lancer fire stopping power in gears 2/3. Completely killed the gameplay flow that made the game so special.

not being able to bum rush someone head on using a peashooter ruined it for you? ok.

sounds like u tried to play gears 3 like u did gears 1, thats not gona end well. u cant just rush someone in a straight line any more u have to put more thought into it. gears 3 is much more challenging game than gears 1 and the gnasher battles are also more difficult because of the increased movement fluidity and wall cancel.

So i got my email and code while at work and entered the info on gears of war and xbox live site. It said it was placed in my queue (or something like that) but when I got home, I couldnt find the game to install. It's nowhere to be found. thoughts?

lol, this is Gears 1 alright. I can't get gibs, even if I point blank someone with an active reloaded shotgun, meanwhile the same fucking guy gibs in one hit all game long. That good old host advantage seems to be swinging in full effect.

Wow, just tried another game. A US player simply down 3 people at Gridlock sniper tower in one hit each, fucking disgusting.

Is it possible their aim is better? I mean that seriously. There's a big skill gulf possible in this game, and my time and conversations with people deep into Gears 1 have said it's perfect. I'm not running into any technical or networking problems with the gameplay. If you're getting any exp in matches (ranked or social), you're on dedicated servers.

The gnasher battles weren't harder.

Also I can play gears 3 exactly how it is mean't to be played. It's very easy to learn how the mechanics were designed and adapt. My point was, the end gameplay was a lot less fun in my opinion. Camping with lancers was a fucking joke.

Punish the mobility that made gears great kinda ruined for a lot o people.
They are still 3 different games ,and as someone said in this thread, not comparable.

Played this for a match yesterday night before I hit the bed. Never played GoW so I don't even know what the controls are (and not in game as far as I know). Not sure how the damage works either since I try gunning someone down and takes a full clip, whereas I get shot and die instantly. Any help?

What I have not been enjoying with Gears Beta has been using the lancer. My opponents just don't care if I am using it against them. As I try to get the majority of my shots on the opponents head, he just runs at me, rush rush rush, shoots me with a shotgun. If I don't die right off the bat, he/she still gets me as I try to roll left/right/backwards and then I am downed.

I saw the post above that a more powerful lancer is dumb, but at least balance it better against everything else. It feels absolutely useless against the likes of Torque Bow/Sniper Rifle/Shotgun.

As it should be. The lancer is a support weapon, even if it's a part of the main load out. Get your Gnasher out or expect to get killed.

People defending shit like smoke ragdolling, speed reduction, stopping power and the sheer existence of the Retro Lancer almost make me want to scream and jump out a window.

Gears 1 was a game (though far from perfect) that had a huge skill gap and required a lot of dedication to understand and get good at. But they added so much nonsense over the years to lower that gap. They made it mind numbingly easy, for folks who can't be bothered to practice, to get kills and earn their figurative back pats and gold stars, with zero effort.

People have to and must understand that the Gears faithful, the Gears vets, the Gears fanatics, the motherfuckers who have put in hours and still play since 2006, have been abused, let down and jerked around for nine, looooooong years. This is OUR game. The one we fought, demanded, asked, pleaded and prayed for. A game we thought we would never, ever, ever get. A game that brought so many people to the Xbox brand and so many, myself included, into competitive gaming. Gears 2, 3, Judgement and casual fans will not ruin this for us. We have dealt with unwanted, unwarranted, unjustified changes for too long. It's now YOUR turn adapt.

It's your turn to see what Gears is all about and what started a franchise you claim you love so much. See what gave birth to such an incredibly intense, raw, and exceptionally fun game. Gears 1 is back and better than ever. It's time to celebrate.

Well now you can see why Epic tried so many different things to reduce the gnasher's power in the sequels, they wanted to appeal to a broader audience. This is Gears 1 alright, because these were the types of discussions that were being held back then.

A lot of the fans of the original like it how it is now, and it pushed away those people who weren't able to adapt or enjoy this style of play.

So are the Day 1 & 2 weapon skins gone for good? Was that issue ever addressed?

They randomly reappeared in my game last night.

But using cover and wall bouncing was the way through lancer stopping power if the only choice was to go head on, something which requires more then just holding A & forward.

As it should be. The lancer is a support weapon, even if it's a part of the main load out. Get your Gnasher out or expect to get killed.

The problem, for me, is that if I put almost the majority of a full clip into an opponent rushing me from a distance and it doesn't even down them, leaving me now to reload/swap to another weapon, giving them the opportunity to just then roll/shotty me in the face, I feel let down by the lancer's ability to save my life. (Edit I am sure I could down that opponent if I did an success active reload for the majority of bullets, that is another option)

I can take the suggestion that in order to be successful, I change my tactics to placing the majority of my shots from the lancer into said opponent and switch ahead of time to another weapon and do the last bit of damage then, before the opponent just super-time-jelly rolls and kills me.

This game should have really been the amalgamation of the best of all three Gears MP Games into one. Take out all the single player non-sense and just make the most balanced Gears MP game from the 360 era and put all the maps in.

I just want gnasher shots to come from the barrel and not center screen. This was something most people hated in the original gears and it was fixed in later games. Why bring all these other changes from 3 but not that. -.-

I agree with everything you said, Gears feels like a chess game. It's not who shoots first, but who makes the first mistake. I do feel Gears 1 cover system is not that fluid and feels clunky

Another thing they should have fixed in this edition, you still can't shoot unaimed over a lot of cover walls because the bullets spawn too low even though the gun is clearly over the ledge. I don't really know how they can call it ultimate editon for these reasons.

WHY?!?!?!?

WHY DO THEY DO THIS SHIT?!
I'm out

And this guy knows what's up. If I had a favorite person list in this board you'd be on it.

I'm having a real hard fucking time aiming the shotgun. Way more than I used to. Is there a youtube video or something explaining what I should be doing lol?
