I hope someone asks the WOW dev team if the plan to fix all the game crashing bugs introduced in 4.01 or are they going to let them ride until the big cataclysm patch.

Judging by previous Blizzcon Q&A sessions, every question will be about things that everyone already knows like "Is there vespene gas in StarCraft II?" and "Can we right click to sell items in Diablo 3?"

*awkward pause*

"Yes."

It has the best gameplay out of any MMO out there, sure. Polished, it should be considering how many years it's been out there. Though 4.0 so far has been an absolute disaster, so I'm curious how much damage control they'll be doing at the show over this. Graphically, it's in pretty bad shape, especially considering that they refuse to update the old vanilla races models.

I don't think we'd see a SC->SC2 leap in visuals obviously, but it would be nice to see what Blizzard can do with a newly engined MMO. And, if it's going to be a shooter as some rumors hinted at.

Have to say I dont completely agree with you there. Blizzards art direction has always been spot on.
Yes vanilla models are outdated (those will get an update I'm sure) and so are some of the old zones even after the cataclysm.

But besides having (as you call them) outdated models and zones, these zones are fleshed out. There is something to see around every corner. The attention to detail that blizzard has put into the world is amazing.
Compare Azeroth to any other mmo world; the other worlds always seem bland. I found myself running around in Conan, LotRO WAR or the other endless list of MMO's i've tried, finding the worlds to be bland.
This is never the case in WoW. The areas are fleshed out, alive and breathing environments.
That's what makes World of Warcraft so beautiful.

yeah, no it's really not.

maybe we'll see if ArenaNet can pull off Guild Wars 2, then you can come back and say that.
Blizzard fanboys in a Blizzcon thread? no wai..

Yes, WoW is getting pretty dated. Not a bad thing but you can't say it's very fresh anymore.

Universe/World of Starcraft.

How would a SC2 MMO work from the Zerg perspective... they are all mindless zombies of the Queen, there is no independent thought. You can't have a hero Hydralisk walking around being like "I'm gonna do quests and level up and shit", that'd be absurd.

The SC2 story turned to such shit because they're so obviously retooling the lore to be MMO-friendly. A real shame.
Well they stated the next mmo will not use the WarCraft StarCraft or Diablo universe. So no.

Agreed, although I'm not necessarily opposed to Blizzard attempting an MMO of that kind.

I'm really thinking they are going to announce their new IP.

With the Cataclysm cinematic trailer already released, what else would be their big announcement?

Maybe D3 release date. But I say new IP announcement.

How so? (not a trap, I'm honestly curious)

Space elves are very MMO friendly

With that said the Blizzard conference will pale compared to Konami. I may just watch that on loop.

More seriously I hope more D3 stuff is revealed. I got bored of WoW 3 years ago I don't want them to dedicate half the conference to that outdated game.

They recycled the exact same twist from Warcraft 3; the zerg aren't evil! They were under the control of some dark, mysterious force from beyond...the overmind just wanted them to be happy and free. ;_; And finished with Kerrigan being turned back into a human...wouldn't surprise me if she retains her will and uses the swarm to fight against the Hybrids alongside the Terran and Protoss.

All we need now is for the next two expansions to introduce more diverse Terran and Protoss factions and new species subsets of Zerg so there'll be plenty of playable races for Starcraft MMO.

There is no way there will be a release date for Diablo 3. Cataclysm and Starcraft both went into beta long before a release date announcement came, and Diablo 3 isn't going into beta any time soon..

While I see where you're going with this, I'm pretty sure the story quality was just caused by their descent to being terrible, god awful writers that's been going on for about the past ten years.

It's best to just assume zero plot quality going into their games these days. It's far more enjoyable that way.

Hm, fair enough.

Although that's a pretty common trope to fall back to.
Zergs are fan favourites, making them a bit more friendly (humane, so to speak) isn't too out of the ordinary as far as development goes.

Well, that's what a lot of us already speculated in the SC2 thread, and tbh, I didn't think of an eventual MMO at all when I made those connections. That's just where the overarching SC2 trilogy seems to be headed.

Yeah, now that would be a definite indication of where they're going with this.
But since they're setting the Hybrids (the only real new faction from SC2 as far as I can tell) up as this tropey super-evil (i.e. definitely not playable in an eventual MMO), this hasn't really happened yet.

All in all, seems to me that's just the direction they're going into as far as the overarching SC2 story is concerned, not in preparation of a SC MMO (and thank God for that, I fucking hate MMOs).

Indeed, that could be it too and I hope you're right. Either way I'm looking forward to the Story Q&A so they can answer for their sins.

I'd be surprised if we see the new MMO next year, much less this Blizzcon. :lol

No, this should be one of the most predictable ones they've ever held. Heart of the Swarm teaser is the most surprising thing that could happen- maybe Diablo 3 beta announcement. Not that it'll be boring, by any means- (lots of Diablo 3 news + Boxer vs. FruitSeller is enough to have me interested) just more behind the scenes/info oriented and less reveal oriented.

Damn man, I know Starcraft II has been out for 3 months now which makes it OLD by gaming standards, but I had been putting the single player campaign in the backlog. Thanks for the spoilers !!

*Random insane prediction*

The Boxer Vs. Fruitdealer SC2 Exhibition match will feature Heart of the Swarm units.

That is indeed insane. I think everyone tuning into that match wants it to be played under vanilla SC2 circumstances not to see "OMG THE BANELURKERLISK!11!!"

In fact I'd be ultra pissed if the game was played using some beta HotS shit

Although it was dickish of him to do that you're not missing out on much. The SP storyline in the game sucked balls and this is coming from someone who was obsessed with SC1/BW's SP storyline. SC2's doesn't even hold a candle.

Yeah, that's my bad. Although kinda doesn't help to have been quoted 5 times. My apologies. If it's any consolation you'll still be feigning surprise like we all did, considering how horribly predictable and cliche the story is.

terran- dominion, ued and raynors raiders (although calling raynors raiders an own faction is kind of a stretch); zerg - kerrigans zerg, dominion controlled zergs (they have the tech to do that); protoss - kala, nerazim, khaldarim there are a lot of factions.

It is if you have the virtual ticket. everything is on demand after it airs.

I bought the stream for the pet, what can I say, I'm weak for WoW pets. Was the main reason I bought the SC2 SE.

No, that's just how Chris Metzen writes.

It doesn't seem like there are any surprises in store for Blizzcon from Blizzard. Nothing really fits into the schedule for it at least. I hope they prove me wrong.

How could you even think of saying that while there are 12 million people (and counting) playing that game? It might not be up to your standards graphically (though it looks better than most MMO's) but it's still the most complete and polished MMO experience on the market. Period.

I think he worded it wrong, I've played WoW off and on for a long time. The thing that depresses me most about the game, and the MMO market in general is the absolute lack of any VIABLE alternatives outside of it. So when I get burnt out on a WoW patch, or I want to do something else my choices are:

A. Team Fortress 2
B. Waste 3 months on Aion/Warhammer/Whatever and be disappointed.
C. Go outside.

On topic: Please god, surprise Spring release for D3. I WANT TO BELIEVE!

Well, you shouldn't blame Blizzard for making a MMO so good, nothing has surpassed it yet on the fun factor. :D

€29.95 for a fucking stream.

Blizzard is beyond awesome, but they got damn petty.

I don't have a problem paying for the stream, you still get the bonus wow pet for watching it as well.

I can't go but if the streaming is really good than it's worthwhile and there's nothing wrong with them doing it.
