Geist? When, Where and could it be?

I've heard now from 2 people who have played the final version that the game is surprisingly good. All bugs have been ironed out And the game is somewhat nice to play.
I Hear Playboy Magazine has given it 4/4 Bunnies!! First I believe to publish a review.

Any who, have any US mag’s announced when they are reviewing?
Game still out August?

Anyone still looking forward to this?
Will anyone actually care??

Considering how saturated the console/pc fps markets are, Geist will have to be un-fucking-believably good for me to pick it up.

extract of Geist preview from NOE:
...Geist begins in familiar videogame territory but quickly takes a turn for the supernatural. Raimi, a disease control expert, accompanies a counter-terrorist squad to infiltrate the headquarters of the sinister Volks Corporation. However, the plan quickly goes awry. The Volks troops ambush Raimi and his squad mid-mission, leaving you to shoot your way out of the complex...

...So far, Geist could be forgiven for looking like an ordinary first-person shooter. That is, until the main character is killed off within the first 10 minutes. Instead of escaping, Raimi is captured by Volks forces, who subject him to a deadly experiment that rips his spirit from his body.

You awake in a peaceful Eden-like netherworld which serves as a training ground to take your first steps as a spirit. In ghost-form, Raimi can float around and explore his environment, but he can only exist without a body for a limited time. A meter shows how much spirit energy he has remaining, which you can replenish by absorbing life force from living things, such as the plants you find growing around the heavenly garden.

Being a ghost is cool but your powers are practically zilch. To progress in the game you’ll have to find a body (or object) to inhabit before your spirit energy meter reaches zero, or Raimi’s essence will evaporate forever. The simpler the host, the easier it is to possess. For instance, you first get to practice Raimi’s possession power on a rabbit scampering through the grass. We had fun for a few minutes, seeing what life was like as a bunny, but there’s more to this game than dreaming of carrots...
i'm interested in geist, but i still have reservations. i'm going to wait for reviews and impressions.

As I always say in Geist threads, the concept of the game interests me greatly, but everything I've seen and read up to the present indicates that the game is going to fuck it up in presentation. I'd love to be wrong because the idea sounds cool as hell, but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh, and for reference, I believe Playboy gave Superman 64 a very high score.

i heard that the E3 build this year wasn't too bad and improved a lot but still had a few bugs but i know a few who enjoyed the single player

im not giving up on this game since i heard from somewhere (not sure if true) that Miyamoto has said that it is progressing well like Metroid Prime

and who did you hear from that played the final build?

pfft im a nin-fanboy and even im staying away from this turd :lol
Ill stick to halo 2 thank you much.

*goes back to playing killer 7*

I think people are going to be surprised if they give it a chance.
So it's even worse than we suspect?

Just go dig up a copy of Messiah or Requiem.

I played it at this years E3 for awhile.

I thought it did need some polishing, but I enjoyed the mutliplayer aspect of it.
The ghost ability was pretty refreshing; possessing bodies instead of collecting weapons was a nice change.

And I heard a big part of the delay was to add even more things to mutliplayer; possessable weapons and environment obstacles in the maps and stuff.

Plus, if they managed to tighten the control more (It needed it) and smooth some edges, it could be a decent surprise.

I'm going to get it.

n-Space updated their website a few days ago with this front page:

http://www.n-space.com/

It says the game went "Gold" on July 8th, and is on track for an August 2005 release. I would speculate sometime between August 8th and August 20th.

Where is the marketing push Nintendo? Do you expect to sell a million copies without mass-market knowledge of the game's existence? I foresee the second coming of Enternal Darkness/ MGS:TT sales numbers...

The graphics are terrible. Reminds me of Goldeneye Rogue Agent.

This game is going to suck badly. I'm tired of Nintendo pulling crap out their butt and calling it "innovative". Who cares if you can turn into a ghost. The standards of console FPS have already been made (Halo 2, Unreal, etc), and this game doesn't come close.

I keep saying that Retro Studios needs to make a FPS. Imo they are Nintendo's best asset in the US gaming world. They have some of the best programmers and artists in the entire business, and just playing MP2 shows you what they could do if given the chance to make a FPS. With guys who worked on Diablo, Half Life, and Turok, why not let them loose to create a masterpiece? Metroid Prime has gone as far as it can go imo; after MP3 there will be no need for another "first person adventure" with no dual analog gunplay.

I do.

Why should it? Instead of trying to do what Halo and Unreal already have, why not try something different? If there's anything we don't need, it's yet another standard-issue FPS, even if it is a good one. I welcome this approach, and I regret that Nintendo didn't give this to a more capable developer.

I agree with your thoughts on this. But from what we've heard, Geist was their game and they pitched it to Nintendo. Nintendo decided to support it and publish it. I don't think giving it to another developer was an option. It will surely be n-Space's best title to date, and I doubt Nintendo would publish it if it wasn't any good.

Ah thanks, I wasn't aware of that; I thought it was another one of Nintendo's outsourcing projects.

yeah, iirc n-space had been pitching it for a while under the name fear, before nintendo picked it up.

Eh. I played this at the last few e3 shows, and I like it. It's not a typical FPS -- it's quite different and rather interesting. The details are what appealed to me -- sucking life out of plants, scaring a female scientist by throwing books around the room, etc..

I liked its showings at the last two E3's too. It didn't blow me away, but it was enjoyable. I can say with confidence that Geist is not going to be the disaster that some fear/hope it will be, based on what I've played I'd expect something in the 8.0+ range.
