Gene Wilder pissed that they're remaking Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

after watching the trailer, I really don't like depp's character as opposed to wilders.

As for the reason wilder is mad, I would think it's because he could be losing his immortality. If only his version existed, everyone would remember wilder's wonka character. But if a new version exists, all the children of this generation will remember depp instead of possibly being shown the original version.

How many people will remember Mark Wahlberg in Planet of the Apes as opposed to Charleton Heston?

Anyway, regardless of Wilder's opinion, he still kicks all kinds of ass as Wonka (and an overall weird guy.)

Anyone else see his role in the American movie adaptation of The Little Prince? He played the fox. Good stuff, albeit somewhat disturbing. :lol

needs to show more effort.

that has more to do (I think) with one movie being know as a classic, and the other... sucking.

didn't say it was guaranteed, but if this version turns out awesome, wilder wanka may be forgotten.

and if it turns out sucking, wilder can then be pissed because they went and fucked up what he (and everyone else in the original) did correctly

so either way he loses ;P

In addition, that's a comparison of Mark Wahlberg (who I think is a decent actor, but not readily able to take a movie on his back and carry it) to Johnny Depp.

Mind you, if it isn't obvious from the trailers, I think the flavour of Depp's Wonka is going to be drastically different. Again, quoting IMDB trivia (insert grain of salt):

In interviews, Johnny Depp said his portrait of Willy Wonka would be "part Howard Hughes reclusive, part '70s glamorous rock star".

Jonny Depp made Pirates of the Carribean as Jack Sparrow so I'm hopeful he can inject the same quality in Willy Wonka.

The latest trailer makes him look really odd though. More like Michael Jackson than anything.

speaking of that:
Screenwriter John August had never even seen Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) when asked by Tim Burton to write the script. After finishing the screenplay, he finally watched the 1971 version, only to be surprised at how much darker the "family" film was to his own.
Hmmmmm. . .

Not fair. The Wahlberg one doesn't have the rampant racism to make it interesting.
