He's "establishment." Many former-Republicans turned into pure Trump supporters who pride themselves in not being "establishment," & see any other Republican that doesn't openly support him as "establishment," and therefore, the enemy.

While I wish George and Barbara all the best and a speedy recovery, I don't see them a strong voice pushing back against Trump's bullshit even in good health. During the election Bush Sr. wanted to keep his apparent support for Hillary as quiet as possible. I think they'd rather remain polite figureheads.

I don't think that he will be an outspoken critic of Trump, but he clearly disapproves of the man and any comments from a well respected former Republican president will have somewhat of an impact among the Republican base that is still weary of Trump. I'm not expecting much out of him, but it's important to have figureheads like him that that won't appease Trump.

If he's intubated, he's sadly on a vent. The real question is how much support that vent is giving him (e.g., the amount of positive pressure being given, the O2 saturation, etc.)
