George Lucas "privilege" Empire Strikes Back voted no.1, wasn't always a trilogy

AOTC was plenty dark too. it was also plenty shit.

ROTS is also shit.

Phantom Menace is the best prequel. there is zero correlation between "dark" and quality of film.

It's a list of movies people like. The whole notion of "best of all time" is dumb, because there's no way to judge such a thing without going into full on movie elitist mode. This is a list made by average people who don't give a fuck about the "art" of movies, they just go by what they think is fucking awesome.

I can't believe there are so many people blown away by Dark Knight being on the list. "People really like the 4th highest grossing movie ever!?" <--
In the US.
Yeah, the biggest problem witht he list is the name.

And "darkness" is only a small part of why the plot of Empire is so good, which in turn is only a part of why Empire as a whole is so good.

Deliberately paced? It's glacial... I literally cannot sit through it. One of the most overrated films ever made, I'll never understand why people hold it in such high regard.
Well, I mean it's one of the most unique films ever made so that's the big draw even if it puts people off. It's using the medium in ways that movies at the time never did, it came at the material from an angle no other director would have attempted. It highlights the fact that film isn't a purely narrative-driven art, it's a visual one. It's about mood and tone instead of plot and dialogue, and it was a fucking bold move that just proved that movies weren't simply filmed stage plays. I dunno, the technicalities of why it's good might not matter to you if you find the content boring, but you've gotta respect how unique it was for its time.
