This revisionism is getting really tired. He's not some hapless doofus that was blindly led along by Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. He is much smarter than many realize and he alone is responsible for the decisions he made. He prided himself on being "the decider."

He wasn't fed bad ideas that he rubber stamped without a second thought. He had bad ideas all his own and executed them badly, which ultimately sent thousands of people to their deaths and ran our economy into its worst disaster in nearly a century. Fuck this "decent dude" nonsense.

Not here to defend W., far from it. But in all fairness, a lot of the groundwork for the Great Recession was laid prior to W. taking office. It just took some time for that bubble to pop.

Bush made one of the most significant mistakes the American government ever made in the last 50 years. He dragged the United States into to endless war with endless consequences that will continue to haunt the United States for decades to come. But we can't deny that he also do some good things like his humanitarian efforts. A lot of people think that we would never repeat Bush's mistakes, but it seems that the American people forgot about it in 10 years. Trump is significantly worse than any other president to ever rule the United States. I think he worse than any leader of any developed nation. He will drag the United States into another war pretty soon, and this time I don't think it will survive the consequences intact like last time. He is been poking countries with real military might. Some with nukes, and some with high tech weapons. I just hope he is stopped before it's too late.

he did good work in Africa while he was in office, always seems to be overlooked though

The bellend promoted abstinence only education which lead to the HIV incidence and prevalence rate rising in Uganda despite there being improvements in previous years dye to them promoting condom use alongside fidelity and abstinence.

What is "a sentiment that could be said about nearly every President since the start of the 20th century," Alex?

"Saturated fat causes heart disease as much as Brawndo is what plants crave."
Bush has always been much more reasonable with immigration. In general TX Republicans are much more tolerant because much of Texas's demographics, including conservatives, is Hispanic or part Hispanic.

I agree he made shit decisions, but to put focus on one person, whoever it might be, takes away from all the pieces of shit surrounding Bush that certainly fed the shit machine.

I'm not saying he's the sole bad decision maker in that administration, or the only person who deserves blame for what happened. I'm saying that "he's a decent guy who was just fed bad ideas by bad people around him" is a lie.

You're right that Bush didn't create conditions for the financial crisis and Great Recession exploded out of thin air, but those conditions were greatly exacerbated under his watch.

He made plenty of fiscal decisions that continue to do us harm to this day. He was an awful president by any measure. But the Great Recession did not explode out of thin air, IMO, and it's not really something I would pin on a president. Even an awful one.

Lincoln is a terrible bar to hold anyone to.

For example: read the first draft of the emancipation proclamation. He had some pretty screwed up ideas that aren't mentioned often because people still want to view him as a hero.

Practically all historical figures can be construed as monsters when compared directly to our modern ideas of morality and civil rights.
