German authorities puzzled over Koran disposal

I mean, it's not like they would be wearing military uniforms and burning the books in public with actual flaming wooden torches or whatever. Just recycle them in a recycling facility.

Give them to muslim organizations and ask them to dispose of them.

As stated before, burning the books is the method used in most Muslim countries to dispose of old holy books.

Yeah, just ask Mosques to dispose of them. If they don't want to, burn them. I know it seems unsavory, but as with flags, burning is actually the correct way to dispose of them. Just do it correctly, and only extremists will get mad. Fuck them either way, so it's a win-win.

There might be legal problems with giving confiscated items to a third party. Basically it's the government's responsibility to get rid of the books. It might be doable with some special cooperation agreement with muslim organizations but I'm not sure to what extend the German law would permit it. As it's the police that currently holds the Korans whatever method is chosen will be subjected to a bit more scrutiny.

I've always been confused by the problem with burning Islamic texts and stuff. I'm from a Muslim background and I've always been taught that burning an religious text is always to prefer than to throw it away etc.

It can risk being defiled more being thrown away or burried or stuff.

Dunno.

Lol, what?

This is some "Die Bart. Die" level of hilarity.

I've always appreciated 'Gift' being the German word for poison.

As much as Vergangenheitsbewältigung can occasionally be taken to an illogical extreme, in the era of fake news we're currently living in, I sincerely appreciate authorities being careful around creating actions with questionable symbolism that could easily be taken out of context online.
