I hate it how everyone on the god damn internet and his stinking dog has a TFT (or LCD as you call it) these days. Just so freaking impossible to find good reviews on CRTs today.

Well, I got a little help from another LCD crazy forum, they basically recomended this one:

The ViewSonic E92F+SB
E92f+sb.jpg

But I heard from other places that it "zooms" when it for instance goes from a dark to light color. That's _bad_, right?

The other option I've found online is this one:

The Samsung 997DF

Good for you eyes, the most enviormentally friendly (whatever) screen out there, good quality for you money etc.

Please, my rusty old 17" LG is darking out on me, I may never be able to play Doom 3 again. :P

I have found only one LCD I would ever replace my Sony 21" Trinitron with...

and it's $1000.. SOOOOOOO, looks like I'll be sticking with my Sony OEM for now.

why not just order the one I linked to? $160 + $65 shipping. I guarantee that is less expensive than either of those and can do 1600x1200@85Hz, is 21", and just gorgeous.

If he don't I will. :) Thanks for the heads up btw... can't beat that with a stick.

just so you know, this is the Sony Trinitron I was refering to in my first post. The reason these monitors are always so cheap is because they are usually companies selling them who leased them out to other companies and they are now off lease. So these companies are just trying to unload them for literally whatever they can get.

Just be sure to go aperture grille (all Trinitrons, alot of other higher-end CRTs). Believe me, you'll never go back to crap invar shadow mask monitors. I owned a new 17" 12ms Samsung LCD for about two weeks. It was nice, but the color and general image quality just didn't compare to a nice CRT, so I traded up to a newer 21" Trinitron. Quite happy now. Yes, I pooped out my organs putting it on my desk, but it's not as though I plan on moving it much and it looks gorgeous.

Well, I won't buy that particular one cause it's available to US only, and I'm in Sweden. But I'll give that Triniton argument a go and try 'n' find one over here. :)

Oh, and you forgot to point. >:(

I bought mine as a refurb at my local Fry's and slapped a 2-year return policy on it for like 20 bucks. I had to bring the first one back because it was beat to hell, but the second one was great and I think I may have developed an actual muscle in the process of making those trips with a 21" CRT in tow. :D

Sony Multiscan E500, second hand. How does that sound?

Specs sound good. Just spring for a cheap extended service plan if you can though. Refurb stuff can sometimes turn around to bite you on the ass, as I know from first-hand experience..and a bitten ass cheek.

For some reason refurb ANYTHING doesn't exist in Sweden, so the only way to get _anything_ that's actually been used by someone else is to buy it from that person, and that person often to always never offers extended warranties. :P I think I'll get a new one instead of having a used, uninsured one shipped across country just waiting to break. Besides, I don't think my glass table can support a 21 incher. :/ Except my own that is... (what kinda joke was that?).

Off to the store tomorrow and look at the Samsung one and maybe haggle to instore price down to internet store + shipping price. :)

I'm partial to the Samsung myself. I have the 797 version. (Can't be bothered to take a 19" to a LAN party and I despise LCDs

Yeah. You'll be better of buying a new one in that case, if just for peace of mind alone.

Does it buzz? :( I've spent several hundred dollars on making my computer silent and one of the reasons I'm changing this screen's because it emitts a buzz of some kind. It's super obvious when the computer's off and you've unhooked the signal cable, making the screen turn on and display that "Hey biznotch, plug it back in!" picture.

If you can't hear anything, could you be a doll and test unhooking it? :)

Don't need to unhook it. My monitor is always turned off after my computer has flatlined and I've NEVER even noticed a sound coming from the monitor. Except for when you turn it off you hear the static and with degaussing.

Can't turn the PC off now, uploading a large file to a server without resume :)
