The wife and I realized that we need a new garage... the old one was built with the house in 1942 and is ready to fall apart...

Our house was gutted on the inside 3 years ago and we re-did everything... this garage is the last item we need to start enjoying this house.

Guess the price for a 2 1/2 car garage 22x24 with a pull down stairs to a second floor for storage in Chicago?

If you're putting in drywall and insulating the attic & general finishing stuff like that, I'm going to guess somewhere between $80,000 and $90,000.

$14,800...

That includes tear-down of old garage... removal of old cement and side-cement...

Pouring new cement, building the 22x24 garage with 7/12 gabble roof, that will have a 6 foot clearance in the 2nd. floor...

Alluminun siding, side 6-panel door, motorized door 16x7 door and 6x7 sliding door...

Similar to this one... but mine will have a higher roof for more storage area...

It will have a side 6 panel door for in/out and opposite of the door shown will be another 6x7 sliding to open for parties...

Wow, that's not bad at all. Prefab standalone, eh? I've thought about replacing our one-car garage with a two-car, but it's attached and would have to match the house, and so I thought it would be prohibitively expensive. Maybe I'll call up a contractor & ask about it after all. I imagine it'll still be significantly more than yours, but maybe it'll be cheaper than I feared.
