OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
I haven't seen it yet but I'm a big fan of the first GitS film and am considering going to see this one. Is it better or worse than the first one?

Folks on the AOD Forums are saying it's a visual masterpiece but that the story is convoluted up the ass and has NyQuil written all over it. Is this true? Konex? It CAN'T be more boring than Jin Roh....OMFG that movie is all kinds of shit.

Oh and did YK score this one?

No, this is Mamoru Oshii's GITS, not Kenji Kamiyama's GITS. Kenji Kawai does the soundtrack, complete with noh chants.

As for the story, fans of The Architect will love it. ;)

I just finished watching it.

The visuals are really really nice.

The story is pretty convoluted and i'll probably need to watch it a few ore times to figure out what all is going on though,

visually really nice. music is cool too. Story is .. ok i guess. Kinda boring. Better than the first one imo. I didn't really like the first one tho.

Vindication...sweet.
GITS II was visually absorbing and heavy on philosophy and dialogue. You'll have a brain anneurism just trying to understand the deep plot....but that's ok since Mamoru Oshii wants you to go see it twice. :)

Before I say anything:

I like the Ghost In The Shell series; read the original manga series when it first came out in comic book form from Dark Horse, and enjoyed it, but as with some other Shirow works, it certainly had its "what the hell is going here?!" moments. Saw the first movie and was pretty bored overall; I actually fell asleep the first time through. I haven't watched too much of the Stand Alone Complex TV series, but I definitely like it and much prefer the more Shirow-style character designs it's using. Read the GITS Man Machine Interface manga and had pretty much no idea what the hell was going on, but it had some nice perverted art going for it.

Saw GITS Innocence last week and enjoyed it a lot more than the original; it was easier to follow and only had one real "WTF is going on" moment, but once it was over, it was understanable. The entire film is pretty slow-paced, but I was pretty engrossed in it this time. There were a few people asleep in the audience though; one guy behind me was snoring pretty loudly. :)

I think if you enjoyed the original, you'll like the sequel. If you found the original boring, you might like this movie, but be warned about its pacing.

BTW, IIRC this film's story is from one of the orginal GITS manga episodes. Also Batou is the main character this time around, not Kusanagi.

AHAHAHA! that is THE best description for this movie.

I caught it over here at the AMC right near Time Square....Man...that description is FOOKIN perfect.

thats EXACTLY how I felt while watching the movie.

and id like to also add that the movie is a Mind Fuck too.

peace

I love the GITS manga and the GITS tv series because they are heavy on the philosophy but also have enough action to sustain the viewer.

This movie, Innocence, was very visually interesting, but overall I couldn't figure out what was going on. Not a bad movie, i'd give it 2 and a half stars to three stars depending on my mood... I'm not sure what relation it has to the tv series either, unless Kusanagi somehow disappears during series 2 (of which I've only seen a couple eps of).

Is it subtitled, or dubbed? And if dubbed, is it worthwhile watching it in its dubbed form? Being dubbed could make it harder to understand, since they have to worry about fitting sentences over animation with a different original language. That can make for some weird dialogue.

Do you have to be particularly familiar with the first movie to understand or appreciate what's in the second (regardless of quality)? I saw GitS like 3 years ago so I can't say I remember all the specifics, and the sequel opens in my town next Friday.

I liked it but it's definitely a very "different" film. It's all so metaphysical.. admittedly, a few less Confucius or Milton quotes could have gone a long way. But really, it's worth watching just for the mindblowingly gorgeous visuals and the amazing sound/music.

And it's subtitled quite nicely (no dub was done at all).

yea it is subtitled nicely but it seems some of the subs were going too fast.....it was pissing me off and i read subs fast.

or maybe it wasnt that they were going fast, its just the stuff they were saying was so complex/"hi im a mindfuck movie" and I was trying to grasp certain things and while my thoughts would be on one sentence I wouldnt be able to catch another sentence....i dont know

Great impressions Lyte Edge. Thanks. Just for the record, was it as boring as Jin Roh?

Considering that Jin Roh is one of the finest written and directed films to come from Japan I would say no you wouldn't like Innocence nor any other animation that uses dialogue as a medium ;)

Bad Art ™
Am i the only one to hate the traditional anime + (too much) CGI mix ?

The CGI is too realistic for an anime, it's really distracting.
