Ghost of Yōtei State of Play gameplay deep dive on Thursday, July 10!

I am not talking about the story. It's a open world game, what matters most is what you do as your primary side thing after you're done with the story, or don't feel like progressing through it. There is nothing to do, which is exactly like it is in AssCreed Shadows. Taking over camps is all there is, which is as hollow and brainless as it gets. And i am not surprised that it is like that. The game is aimed at casuals that press the W key and want to do nothing but killing. For me, this is the worst formula for an open world game.
Well said these games seriously lack gameplay/mission diversity...but to be fair that is most games now ...ac shadows is brutal in not having anything interesting to do. The way that games gameplay loop is designed is a mess....how many Tori temples where you search for 3 codex pages can I take?

Most of them being like that is indeed the case, and the reason why quality open world games are so rare. To me, when it comes to singleplayer titles, the open world genre is the one that has the highest potential to be truly amazing, but it also happens to be the second most difficult genre for a dev to build, only after mmo's, so when we do finally get a new good open world game, that's like the second coming of Jesus.

I'll check it out since this is the one big game daddy Hulst is allowing us this year, but I maintain that I'd much rather have Sucker Punch either move on to something else or go back to Infamous.

I thought the first one was incredibly mid, and showed signs of internal development turmoil. I'm really excited to see where they take it with a sequel and clean up the experience.

I think giving up on Jin's story was the smartest thing they could have possibly done. Really stoked to watch this.

I want new stances, useful charge attacks, more cosmetics, and above all no mongols
The best part of GOT was going to the second region and fight ronin looking ennemies

Sell me on this.

I just need more variety of side content abd less bloat.

I should do the dlc for the first, maybe?
The DLC for the first game is pretty good. It feels like they learned what variety means with that one. Hopefully Yotei is more similar to the level of the DLC than the base game, which honestly felt barebones at times.

As Trilobit Trilobit said the dlc is very good.
Beautiful landscapes, new weapons, new enemy type, nice cosmetic additions, if you liked the main story you'll learn plenty more on Jin and his relationship with his father (you'll also finally understand the weird cutscene of his father's death).

Most of all, there's an armor that gives you the ability to perform new instakill moves from duel stance (the one where you call out your enemies before engaging them).

Really enjoyed the first game, but I feel
extreme apathy for this game. Not sure why? Maybe because I've already experienced largely what it has to offer. Felt the same about Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 and Forbidden West.

Ok, 100% playing this before Yotei launches. Thanks guys.

The plot seems to be copied directly from the manga "Blade of Immortal", which, in my opinion, is a great thing since it is wonderful and is my favorite manga ever.
Minus the "immortal", of course

But yeah, I remembered of Blade when I watched the story trailer.

Simple revenge story. But if they nail the concept (like Kill Bill or Blade) they can land on something really special.

The DLC was my most favorite part of Tsushima…some really great areas and encounters imo.

As far as Yotei is concerned, haven't seen enough yet to warrant a purchase.

Internal development turmoil? Wtf lol. It was a brilliant game, incredibly well made whether you personally enjoyed it or not.

I agree, something about the feel of controlling the character just felt a bit off, and the overall experience was just okay.

Hopefully they release a demo so I can see if this one is more appealing to me, otherwise it's a skip for me.

I really don't know what you people are on. It felt great to control, much better than 99% of all other open world games. Very responsive, prioritizing control over animations.

Yeah I think this was the weakest part of the game. If they fix that and give the protagonist a real personality, the game will shine. I wish they would be ambitious with the 6 boss fights with a nemesis-like system, but I doubt they would go that far.

Flop franchise. If Ubisoft could animate their combat systems properly, this is exactly what they would've created, minus the mtx flooding, something they'd do as well. Zero interest in following wind currents, following foxes and taking over copy pasted camps. The worst open world experience a video game can offer. Fuck this.
I agree with the copy pasted camps, hopefully the sequel will offer more variety. But the combat system was fantastic, so I'm really looking forward to this. Calling it the worst open world experience is outrageous though, haven't you played Spider Man?

My GOTY 2020. Absolutely cannot wait for this. Don't even need a direct to know I'll love it. But I'll still watch

No no no. What i meant by "worst open world" is the formula of the game, which is primarily taking over camps. This formula applies to all the latest AssCreed titles, and so many other generic open world games. THIS is what i consider as the worst kind of gameplay an open world game can offer, and GoT is primarily focused on it. Of course GoT is not the worst open world game, there's so much worse, but activities wise, GoT is extremely lacking.

The first game already had some bad aspects of the Ubislop formula, but did enough to differentiate itself from it. This feels like they just went all the way in that direction, multiple weapon choices, animal companion, cookie cutter revenge plot with multiple, non-linear targets...

At this point, what does it do differently compared to Assassin's Creed? I haven't gotten into those games for years, so why would I buy this one?

They will almost certainly remaster/patch this for PS6, I would wait for that. Just like it was worth waiting to play GoT on PS5

Depends. If the game looks good and runs at 60fps then I see no reason to wait personally (outside of already having a lot to play).

I do agree it will be one of many games getting PS6 upgrades.

You can say that about 90% games out there, be it a PS6 version or a better GPU in a few years. But in the end we just want to play games now and I see no reason to wait unless there are huge technical issues.

This game has nothing in it remotely resembling woke content. Also the female protagonist is attractive and looks like a warrior aka not woke. This game is going to look incredible when they show it off tomorrow.

Yeah I've been struggling to find the value in playing a lot games these days especially at launch. So I'm more willing to wait on eventual definitive versions.

If you're not eager to play something, definitely. Even on the exact same hardware games can be vastly different after a few months of updates and fixes.

A lot of playstation titles this generation feel like DLC in terms of leap.. this one in particular has that same first impression that is hard to wash away. The first game was artistic and beautiful, but that formula caused a ton of fatigue on me.

Id love for a new infamous instead :(

Crimson Dessert shitting on who? Man stop it, aint nobody even talking about that game, plus they're not even in the same ball park. One games is based on historical events and real locations set in Japan, the other is just another medieval fantasy game built on the Black Dessert online game engine, with an exaggerated particle system.

I may be jumping the gun on Yotei (will have a better idea tomorrow), but keeping expectations lower due to current day Sony. Tsushima was great, although played too safe, but had a solid combat system. It still lacked in many other departments though, especially the watered down stealth and indoor areas.

Trailers for CD show quite A LOT of gameplay that most people are in disbelief of what all you can do in it... So as of now, yeah, it does look a lot better and more fun than paint by numbers Ghost, regardless of theme.

That's a good idea. I just wish that open world games like Tsushima and Shadows would have a few interesting types of activities. Believe it or not AC series used to do a better job at this with ship combat, a tower defense type mini game, tailing missions for stealth etc

GTA and Red Dead naturally do this because gameplay can be split into vehicle chases or go heavy action, skydiving etc

There has to be more to the loop than just killing stuff and investigating where to go to kill stuff.

The first was more boring and derivative than AC. Hope this one is significantly upgraded.

If it's just more of the boring same like Ragnarök or Forbidden West, which I bet it will be, hard pass.

Yeah, I hope they streamline things a little more for this one. I actually want it to be more linear. I'm in the same boat with the first game, too – I booted it up, got about 20 minutes in and realized it was just another open world 40-hour fetch quest and I never touched it again.

It would really need to wow me in order for me to care. I thought the first game was the most boring Assassins Creed clone I've ever played.

I mean, 20 whole minutes man, you sure played it enough as to be able to express a valid critique...

Personally, played it, finished it (60 hours) and besides the simple yet effective combat and some story beats, the game was an Assassin's Creed in all but name, haiku spot this, banner that, bamboo challenge/thermal bath spot/hidden temples blah blah...if it wasn't for the -again - nice combat and the stand off mechanic which never got old I'd have probably dropped it midway, heck, by the time I was done, I couldn't even bother with the Iki island DLC/expansion.

Production-wise was very good (typical of Sony) but, I just can't muster any real enthusiasm anymore when it comes to open world games and personally, I don't care about this sequel at all, this fall it's all gonna be about Ninja Gaiden 4, Crimson Desert, Silent hill f and Metroid Prime 4 for me.

meh/10
