I still can't comprehend why you'd pick an open world over well designed levels for Mirror's Edge.

Probably because the ideal was the open world would be all as well designed as a linear experience.

I just don't think the Mirror's Edge world is that interesting. 'Clean near future with corporate overlords' k that's not all that new but ok. Nothing interesting about exploring a clean world. You played GTA to get in the dirt, in the shit, in the slums. Nothing interesting to explore in a pristine world with almost zero human element. Intentional or not.

Even Ubisoft is getting better with their open worlds. Division and Syndicate worlds were fun to explore.

So...what exactly are they playing? I just tuned in and its like they're treating one another as stocks and something about twitter and hearts?

I just felt that the strength of the original was it was akin to a modernised classic sonic game where you'd have one objective and a plethora of fun routs to take to get there and it was really cool figuring out the fastest rout possible. When switching to an open world you lose that focus and it's about making everywhere fun to navigate to you can pick up lots of objectives spotted around the map.

I fully agree with the fact they failed to make the world seem interesting. I just don't think an interesting world was ever the high point of the series so it was weird for them to focus on it when they already had a pretty unique selling point.

Well, one of the big criticisms of the game from most people were how short it was. I know I was pissed I spent 60 on it and finished it the same day. Time trials don't appeal to most people so they probably saw open world and filler quests as a way they could pretend it was a more worthwhile investment.

You're probably right. I just think it's a little disappointing given it was supposedly a passion project that lost what made the original so great (admittedly I never spent 60 bucks on it.)
