Any idea what kind of delay these guys are on when streaming? Want to check out their live Bethesda stream tonight, but if it's not in sync with GAF reactions, I'll check out the archive tomorrow.

Last year only Nintendo was on a few minutes delay IIRC. That's because they had a separate feed.

Jeff loves games.
He wouldn't do this if he didn't.

He just expects a lot of them, in addition to having very particular interests.

Jeff isn't cynical. That's bullshit.
He is particular. From the food he eats to the games he plays, he is a man who knows what he likes and what he doesn't. It isn't any more complicated than that.

Pretty much in sync IIRC. They watch the regular feed of the conference, and there shouldn't be much of a delay.

People who believe Jeff has become more cynical should watch the Wii launch stream Gamespot did back in the day.

Yeah, people who seriously believe that Jeff hates video games, without being satirical, should probably listen closer to what Jeff is saying.

It's funny that we've full circled back into this conversation though.

Anything about Shenmue at E3 is basically playing on people's nostalgia.

Shenmue is bad . At the time of release, it was basically falling apart. Nowadays it would be a huge mess for people to play it going in new.. A HD upgrade (with zero gameplay changes), is not something anyone should be excited for.

It's like getting excited for a remake of Paperboy.

It was falling apart? In what way? I experienced no such issues. The gameplay was clunky, but it also introduced a lot of systems and ideas for the first time. I think it's weird to assume that they'd just up-res it and not introduce gameplay changes/tweaks as well.

Shenmue 1 & 2 are pretty much the games that affirmed my love for video games. They came along at a great age for me (13/14) and I remember being totally engrossed in the world, from the mundane to the fighting to the mysticism to the fork lifts.

The notebook, the music, the characters, working a job. It all seemed so incredible and ahead of its time.

I have honestly been waiting for new Shenmue news for 14 years or so now and yeah, I'd be totally intrigued in a new thing, even a PS4 port.

I'm not hanging my hat on hopes for this too much, but I think the "it's a terrible game" comments that have popped up about Shenmue in the last 5 years are pretty wide of the mark.

I can see Shenmue having aged terribly, I can't imagine playing those games for the first time now. My feeling on Shenmue is that those games did a lot of really interesting and innovative things, but I never really liked the games themselves. A lot of people did, so I hope they get a new game.

I would be amazed if it's a direct sequel though. I can't imagine it would make any financial sense to make a sequel when the market of people who played the first two games and will buy a new one is probably tiny. At least I can't imagine a sequel with any kind of budget. Most likely it's some sort of remaster of the first games, if there's anything to this.

In my opinion, Shenmue has aged more poorly than most other games in existence. It's actually impressive. It's pretty much unplayable for me now.

Shenmue was revolutionary.
Shenmue 2 was even better.

Would a HD re release sell to people who don't like the first two?
Hell no.

But i would savor it.

a re-release that was also an update? Got rid of some of the jank? Hell yeah.

There is no good way to play a lot of dreamcast/saturn games, and that is a shame.

You'd basically need a blank cheque to rewrite the whole game - and that is not going to happen

Alright, so does anyone have any advice for me? I am in Italy currently so the Bethesda and Sony press conferences will be Monday morning at 2am and Tuesday morning at 3am. Tuesday I have a train to catch at 11:30.

Should I set an alarm and sleep until the press conferences then go back to sleep after, or just stay up and go to bed after? Which makes you less tired/ is better for you? I trust there are at least 5 sleep scientists in this thread.

I agree.

It's so easy to be cynical about it and the jokes would be plentiful but a lot of people have wanted a glimmer of Shenmue for so many years.

Sometimes it's just nice to have nice things and be happy.

Depends on how easy you fall asleep after having slept a couple of hours, been up a couple of hours and then try to fall asleep again. I normally can't do that easily, so just have to stay up. If that's not a problem for you I would think that a couple more hours of sleep is always a good thing.

does YouTube more or less immediately archive? i'm going to be unable to watch the Bethesda conference as it happens, but will be home like an hour after it's over. would love to basically disconnect from the internet for the rest of the day and then watch it spoiler free this evening.

Fine, I just want to play it again, not on my dreamcast. Just so the game doesnt die out one day, a digital version should exist somewhere.

Give me a new shenmue that is a reboot? I might just go to heaven.

from what Drew was saying on not-UPF, it should be archiving as it's happening, so it should be available immediately?

I can't imagine Shenmue 3 is even a possibility just because of how much money that game would cost to make and how niche it is and how little it would sell. It just doesn't make sense to me.
