Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

I thought the standout game of the conference might have been CoD, it could potentially be fantastic depending on how much control you get during ship combat.

Microsoft's stuff just feels much more tangible. Even though the few games Sony has in the works look more interesting, they seem so far off and imaginary. Microsoft has a lot of stuff coming over the next 6 months and I appreciate them starting to lay the ground work for the future iterative console stuff.

Maybe I'd have felt better about Sony's show if it was presented a bit better because their games look great. It left me feeling weird though.

I actually really think it's a smart move of MS to sit and wait on VR for now -- see how it shapes up. Nothing I've seen has been impressive so far. By launching their console next year, they'll have the luxury of time to see how the market responds before going all in on it or sitting out. Really smart move.

Tbh nothing that Sony showed looked amazing or stood out.

That joy pills game that they showed on Microsoft's conference is probably the best thing so far.

Most of Microsofts shit looks generic and tried and done roads. Sony looks fresh and like they're trying.

I don't really care that they aren't screaming about the games, but to come out and complain about a new setup for a conference that Sony just tried, but at the same time not even mention the setup for EA/Microsoft/Ubi and Bethesda seems weird to me.

I mean, Microsoft haven't tried anything new with presentation at E3 since the goddamn 360 launch, and they don't get called on it.

They were pretty vague on what those VR things were though, went right into a Call of Duty demo.

This is pretty spot on analysis of a good but weird conference

Maybe, but that's not what I'm expecting out of them. It reminded me of the terrible "well, Fallout 4 is full of bugs because there's literally no other way brehs" argument.

I also don't get why they start talking about the structure of the presser all of a sudden. I don't know but "they needed someone to say the VR block is over" is not something I would've expected to hear from those guys.

They ended a VR slot with a untitled trailer that looked live EVE Valkyrie. That's pretty poor structure. Though no, they shouldn't be talking about the conference and should be jizzing about a bunch of gameplay trailers when the most interesting one was a Shadow of Mordor knockoff.

I'm happy when the GB guys have different opinions than me, I don't want to be in a feedback chamber. It's okay for them to be critical about things I like.

I don't know about everyone else but I want to see games that interest me, which, outside of God of War and the non-talking part of Horizon, this show didn't have.

why are you so jaded and whiney? /s

but yeah, opinions. I saw more stuff at the ubi conference I wanted but what do I know. fall in line or be shouted down.

I think the Sony conference was kind of uninspired. There was nothing that really impressed me that I didn't see before.

But the same is true for every other conference.
Everyone played it incredible safe and therefore it was boring. A new Crash game would have changed everything, but all we got are some freaking remasters and an ugly Skylanders thing.

They explained that, if they wanted to just post a bunch of trailers they could have just hosted a ton of videos and don't need a press conference to do that. A press conference should have more information instead of just trailers.
I agree but I get the vibe that the VR stuff is fluff. I have no idea how on stage demos would change that.

I would have liked some people talk about some of these games instead of trailers but I don't give a shit about the mission statement.

I will never understand the "jaded" comments.

I mean, I agree that the Sony conference provided some pretty good "oh shit" moments while watching it - and I think the crew's reactions during the conference were full of "oh shit" reactions.

But it's only natural that they'll critique the conference once it's over, and it's only natural that a lot of those "oh shit" moments don't actually mean that much in the end. And the GB guys know as well as anyone how often the hype of the moment leads to disappointment with the final product.

It's not their job to hype shit up. When the games come out and are great they will be excited about it. Getting excited about stuff that might still turn out bad is just dumb.

Horizon could be amazing - or it could be amazing for 2 hours and than you just liberate another 20 villages and hunt down 15 more Lionrobots.

I think part of the somewhat negative reaction to Sony's conference can be attributed to the ending; it felt really flat and anticlimactic to me. If they would have ended with a bigger bang, it would have made a better overall impression.

Not as good as previous Sony Conferences. Horizon was great and GOW shows promise. But the rest wasn't that great, especially the weak showing at the end.

whatever man Insomniac's making a Spider-Man game

i'm good

Exactly, Spider-Man & console Marvel games in general haven't been that great in the past, having a developer like Insomniac behind Spider-Man gets me so excited for the potential of what the game could be.

Should have opened with the uh... Uh. Thing gameplay and ended with God of War.

We have an idea on who is doing the Crash Remaster? Is Activision doing it in-house are farming it out to someone like BluePoint?

I don't think Sony can win with the giant bomb crew. When they show a ton of indie games, the question is where is he first party stuff? When they show a ton of first party stuff (tonight) the question is where is the indie stuff. I don't get it.

You're wasting your time with this.

Anyway, conference was killer. I don't mind there are some open questions.

And every year, people complain there's too much talking.

So many people just asked for "let the games speak for themselves" and then a company does it.

People don't know what the fuck they want until they're shown and told why they want something. It's just that simple.

You'd almost hope they're farming it out, given which studios they have at their disposal who aren't already committed to Call of Duty or Skylanders.
